  1. [quote="mjmooney Yup. Original lineup except for guitarist Paul Atkinson who died a few years ago. And if you haven't heard "Odessey and Oracle" you're missing one of the best albums of the 1960s (and, therefore, ever).
  2. What ! Is that the same Zombies who did "she's not there" ? Colin Blunstone , Rod Argent etc ?
  3. STEELY DAN June 29th NIA. Second time I will have seen them. For any drummers on here they have a bloke called Keith Carlock in their touring band; check him out - he is ace.

    Running

Dont know much about competitive running per se but see 'em out when I'm training on bike and my goodness they look fit. Running looks too hard for me Anyway - although a bit out of our area, isnt there a really good sports shop in Stoke on Trent - Bourne Sports is it- that has some machine that sorts out your running style and finds suitable trainers? Anyone know this place or have I got this wrong.

Anyone else also eat bananas before running? Not seen this talked about yet.

    Running

Been training for the Lincoln 10k which is this weekend, going ok no problems, will be able to do it under and hour which will be good for me, aiming for 50mins though. Any tips for preparation the day/days before what to eat, drink etc?
  7. Is that common knowledge then Bickster? I know you are dead right 'cos brother in law and father in law were miners in the North Staffs coalfield. Brother in law said that there were considerable reserves left down there (Hem Heath) AND £000's of pounds worth of equipment - not even salvaged for scrap. All useless now. So yes ; perhaps "vindictive bitch "would be more moderate
  8. I should have known that Villa fans, who are intellectually superior anyway , would be well-up on their cricket and cycling ! I think I have said before, I dont think Lance is a very pleasant man but my goodness he was a good athlete. I dont reckon that he will. win it but he may well generate some more interest in Le Tour in 2009. Even if it is just the vultures circling for him to test positive - WHICH HE HAS NEVER DONE (apols for shouting). Perhaps he would gather more support over here if it was mentioned that the French seem to hate him too !
  9. A serious and emotive topic but I would just pose this question; how many murderers, rapists etc have you all met? Unfortunately I have to deal with them in my job and has caused me to meet people who have hit the headlines in the last couple of years. I would rather not say where I work as it may be unethical or even againt prison rules(and half the 'turnkeys' there seem to be Villa fans) ! Please let me assure you than probably 60% who have murdered are thoroughly evil scum and I am really not convinced that.if and when released , they wont murder again. I have never met one who claims that he has been wrongly convicted but some have expressed fear of capital punishment . As regards the sentence; perhaps 12- 15 years for knifing a bloke to steal his Rolex, the same for killing someone while off your head on drink/drugs. Capital punisment probably would not deter the latter but it might make the man armed with a knife think twice. Please dont consider this as an attempt to be 'clever' but an insight into some of this lot MIGHT change minds. Many prisoners where I work dont know what offences their fellow inmates have committed; the rapists usually seem to claim that they are in for armed robbery!
  10. Do you mean 'cos she uses Mavic instead of Zipp or Corima Ian? You surely dont mean because she looks slightly 'rude' do you Anyway - team should be 4 man Team Pursuiters of Manning, Wiggins, Thomas & Clancy. World Champs and record holders + Olympic Champs and record holders - trained by a Villa supporter(Shane Sutton) and one of them comes from Birmingham - thats it !!
  11. When ever anything like this comes up, it is amazing that the same 'massive' bands seem to crop up. So who the hell buys their records ? (it s like trying to find someone who will admit to voting for Margaret Thatcher !) U2 seem to have the same guitar sound - if not riff- on all their records; Oasis are a fairly good pub band and that is all. (all this is opinion I realise). I would hazard an educated guess that if you asked other musicians - perhaps of a certain age - they would not rate this pair very highly. 'The Edge' is hardly Larry Carlton is he?
  12. Forget this Vox Phantom stuff. If you want to be 'hip' get a Futurama and a Watkins Dominator amp. PS I actually played with a bloke who had a pre CBS Fender Precision(think it was pink but cant be sure) He had it resprayed in some green colour- not a Fender colour - by a bloke who resprayed cars. clearing in the woods ! Actually on thinking about ....he was from London !
  13. Cheers BOF - yes my comments were only meant to add to a fascinating piece of work - not be critical as you have obviously realised. Well my Grandad could have got it wrong or (more likely) I have got it wrong  I remember his Villa tales so well - his other favourites were the famous Gibson, Talbot and Tait(sp). I think he lived not far from Harry Hampton and he had some story about him winning a piano !! for some feat on the pitch and they couldnt get it in to his house. How times change! I was at school with a kid who stood in the Holte and was hit by a Harry Bang Bang freekick or shot. It struck him and either knocked him out or knocked him back and he cracked his head quite badly. Harry visited him at his house in Great Barr when he heard about it. Pretty good i think. Great piece again by you.
  14. Very interesting piece of work - excellent ! However..... My Grandad was a Villa fan (born and bred in Lozells) which is where I got it from. Harry Hampton was his favourite player and I thought he was known as'dashing' Harry Hampton? Now Harry Burrows I saw play and I think he was called 'Harry bang-bang' Just trying to be helpful.
  15. No doubting that Bonham was a great rock drummer. Interesting to hear that the late Jeff Porcaro (a real drummers drummer) rated him. as regards 'head and shoulders' : well Ian Paice and Ginger Baker might have something to say about that. Saw The Who several times in Brum but couldnt stand Plant so never saw Led Zep - did see Plants first ever group tho in 196x in Walsall.Thought he was a pratt then.
  16. Yep - you are probably right. But it doesnt excuse them for supporting Worcestershire
  17. No not really like that. More a case of 'Well we've got Sir Jack and we've got the ground and we used to be a great team etc etc' Then; "Its only a matter of time before we are back in the Premier" There was one particular game some years ago which they had to win - think it was against Middlesboro at home. They, to a man, were convinced that it was 3 points for the taking - they lost ! so didnt go up. I suppose it could be like us when we were in the old Third Division (if anyone remembers those dark days). We didnt go up first time and I expected us to win every game - bring on Chico Hamilton !!
  18. Agreed Newcastle fans have these 'strange' expectations but I would throw-in another local team - WOLVES ! I was unfortunate to work for their Council for several years and their optimism and aspirations were amazing - considering they were rubbish. Truly an example of 'delusions of adequacy' ! ps - and they all supported Worcestershire
  19. Is golf actually a sport? Requires skill but little physical fitness (Colin Montgomerie !) Perhaps just a pastime - like stamp-collecting but with more money Tour de France is free.
