Agreed 100% . Have seen this documentary several times and never get tired of admiring their talent. Perhaps the sadest part is the mention of Jim Gordon. Fabulous drummer ( good enough to play with Steely Dan!!) but had severe mental issues and murdered his own Mom. Refused parole several times and died in prison. Very sad.

Best kit I ever had was a Pearl DLX; having also had Ludwig , Rogers et al. I believe that the DLX is quite collectible now. Also , Jeff Porcaro used them but sadly I didn't sound like him !!!!

Yep , I think that is very pertinent. My wife's family, father and brother, were employed in the North Staffs Coalfield and neither were very keen on Scargill. But the agressive manner in which Thatcher dealt with the situation was, IMO, disgraceful. Brother in law worked at Hem Heath, one of the largest pits in the area; the NCB, presumably under Thatcher's instructions, poured tonnes of concrete down the main shaft on thousands of pounds worth of machinery and with substantial reserves of coal thus ensuring that pit could never be used again. If you ever followed Villa to Stoke, you probably parked on the "Business Park" that was Hem Heath.

Probably a bit late on this but; last week was the 40th Anniversary of the Miners' strike- the one lead by Scargill. Did this affect anyone on here? Was it justified ?

Don't know if this should be in the Deadpool thread , but Duncan Fearnley has died. His bats reigned supreme during the 70's and early 80's. The (very poor) team I played for had them . And for a bonus point , we DID buy them from Harry Parkes shop !!

Have been lucky enought to see Stanley Clarke with The Clarke/Duke Project at The Odeon in New Street. First 'encountered 'him when he was with Chick Corea on TOGWT. He played a Kramer bass, a brand that might have disappeared now. I played with a geezer who had one and paid a quite a lot for it ; but was unhappy that it seemed to go out of tune easily (changed back to a Precision). PS @mjmooney, perhaps that should be alive and slapping !!!

Excellent. PDP are made (I think) by the same comapany that make DW drums but are a cheaper version - still nice though. However IMO only) you can fiddle with drums , better heads, tuning etc, and make them sound ace; particularly if you are are good player as he obviously is. Personally, I don't think you can do the same with cymbals so he has probably got Zildjian, Sabian or Paiste. NB Ginger Baker had been a lifelong user of Ludwig AFAIK - at least every time I saw him he had and that goes back to 1965 - but he went to DW too.

Amongst all the euphoria of today's result, a bit of sad news for cricket fans. Great South African cricketer Mike Proctor has died. Peronally , I really liked him; could bat and bowl, albeit seemingly off the wrong foot. Not many like him left now.

Hmm , not sure about that. Obviously a good all rounder but has been tinged with dishonesty for some time which might have somewhat tarnished his reputation. He was certainly no shrinking violet and, IIRC , the way he walked out on Worcs was pretty poor; and i'm no Worcs supporter. You may well be right ,but personally preferred Zaheer Abbas (Z) and definitely Abdul Qadir (always pronounced "carder" by the Warks legend commentator !!

Indeed I did ! Vintage too I think; if the old style Ludwig logo is anything to go by. I had a kit of Ludwig and stupidly traded them in for a more "modern" kit of Rogers , which were not nearly as good. Much worse though; I was talking to a well known B/ham muso who I was lucky enough to play with a few times. He had a Hofner 'violin' bass; I asked him if he still had it and he admitted that he sold it some years ago, never thinking how much it might appreciate. How many of us have done that sort of thing.

I have a 7th Gen IPOd just for music; my daughter tells me that it is very old tech and nobody uses these any more !! However, it just suits my needs and has my Library of music on it. Unfortunately , the screen has come loose and I cannot seem to push it back into place. Does anyone know a company that repairs such devices ? Cheers

Was lucky enough to see the great JB with both Graham Bond and Cream. He was loud , particularly with Cream, but nothing like Bootsy and I have spent a good part of my life sitting in front of 200watt (modest by todays standards) Marshalls . Oh , and one Peavy with a Black Widow. Bruce was a master wasn't he and before the days of "slapping".

Indeed ! May have developed that playing with James Brown - not sure. But Larry Graham also had a lot to say about that ! Saw Bootsy Collins at The Odean in Brum; think he was on with RAYDIO (Ray Parker Jnr). Have to say it was the loudest bass I have ever heard ; but then I've never seen Motorhead !!!
