  1. Are you watching or playing ?
  2. I think that might be called 'Damned with faint praise'.
  3. Doesn't play for a Southern County.... or Lancashire
  4. Early last year , I commented on a banner hung over the Holte End proclaiming "Reg Evans RIP". Reg was a life long Villa supporter and also a life long Socialist who detested the Tories. He told me a story involving Boris being employed by Wolverhampton paper, the Express and Star, which he referred to as the Express and Stasi ! The story was that Johnson was sacked from there for either incompetence or plagiarising , or some such behaviour. Anyone know if that story has any substance ?
  5. Great LP. The rock band I played in only did one Ground Hogs number - "Cherry Red".Good number, good guitarist I thought. RIP
  6. Perhaps someone who knows more about it than I do but wouldn't Rehan Ahmed (Leics) have been a better alternative. Realise it would be chucking him in at the deep end but ....! What happened to Mason Crane, Parkinson, Bess etc ?
  7. Well it certainly hasn't helped him playing for Warks ! In fact his signing, so far, has been a disaster. He would have got a bollocking at the level I played at (very low) for that first ball long hop he bowled on Sunday against Notts.
  8. Hoped for much better things when they picked up Hales early on. But at least Warks are consistent; 4 wins without Ali as Captain - 2 defeats with him as Captain. It strikes me he is doing the work of two men; unfortunately it's Laurel and Hardy!
  9. Given that I can't stand this individual, I see David Llloyd is auctioning off quite a few of his personal mementos. Rather unusual; he can't be hard up - surely ?? He is never mentioned on SKY cricket now; Hmmm.
  10. What a great weekend; Villa secure place in Europe AND........Bears beat Lancs; actually THRASH them!! I detest Lancs BTW
  11. First heard of her in about 1964 when the group I was in supported The Spencer Davis Group at The Casino Club in Walsall (my worst ever musical experience !!). They played "I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine", which I had never heard before. Muff Winwood was very chatty and told us they had got a load of LP's from America and this number was amongst them. Didn't know anything about the domestic abuse back then. NB - Steve Winwood did NOT speak to us; he was too busy fighting off the girls
  12. There used to be two places in Birmingham to get guitars "butchered" as they used to say. One dealt with Fenders and one with Gibsons. Think one bloke was called John Birch but can't remember who did what. One bloke I played with had a new Maple neck put on to a Telecaster I think it was. Good player but , like so many of my ex band mated, sadly no longer alive.
  13. Was lucky to see him with "Battered Ornaments". Did a great version of "Politician". IIRC he kooked a bit like Frank Zappa !
  14. A very interesting post from Mr Mooney; sometimes difficult to distinguish between a similar 'riff' and downright plagiarism. For instance ; who thought "My Sweet Lord " was nicked from "He's So Fine". The one that comes to my (particular ) mind is this :-
  15. I have a cyclist mate who raced in Holland. It seems they can get BBC TV over there and he claimed PMQ's was cult viewing (mainly amongst teenagers and young adults). Unfortunately it was seen as comedy - bit like Family Guy I think.
  16. I had a great LP by her, think it was called "Not a Little Girl Anymore". Some classics on that and backe by some top notch session players.
  17. What !!! You mean the most important musician !!!!!
  18. No Can't say that I do. Where were they from, do you know.? '73 , I was in a residency in Stoke on Trent so a bit out of "the 'scene". Looks like a Gibson SG on the right; if so that would be worth a bit now.
  19. They did a good version of the Stephen Stills (Buffalo Springfield ) number "Special Care". Only really remember this 'cos one line up of the band I was in did it. (probably not as well as they did )
  20. @mjmooney Do you rate this bloke ?
  21. Another classic but probably less known was Uptown or summat by two individuals called Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz. They sampled "Black Cow" by Steely Dan and refused to pay - until Court case ! Bearing in mind the subtley of Steely Dan's music, I should think Becker and Fagen were horrified by this.
  22. Cheers, would be interested to know - particularly what wood it is - probably maple or birch. When I played in a pro band , I would change kits every 3 years, I think it was, to reduce the Schedule D tax bill. Did have a Ludwig ; gold sparkle like Joe Morello - didn't make me play like him though . Best (IMO) I ever had was Pearl DLX , similar to the ones used by my favourite drummer Jeff Porcaro. IMO , Yamaha have a very distinctive (and very nice) sound. Let me know. (Oh , and what cymbals does he use - Sabian , Zildjian etc.)

    Imperialism

"The law locks up the man or woman who steals the goose from off the common' But lets the felon loose who steals the common from the goose" An early anti "Enclosure Movement" poem. Could almost apply today !
