  1. Then he'd be an overpriced player, like NRC. You think 5 mil is overpriced for him? Considering what non-established PL players go for these days, I think you're utterly wrong. You can think what you want, but as he's a Villa player it'll be prone to bias. £5 million is on the high side for him now, but in the world where Raheem Sterling goes for £49 million it's not out of the question. He's a solid, dependable player who's good to have in the squad of a mid-lower end team but if you're looking to push on (which I hope we are) there are better players out there in that position who do a bit more than than the neat and tidy stuff.
  2. You play to Gabby's strengths when he's fit - i.e knock it accurately into space behind the defender, stretch defences and give him some space to run in to with a target man flicking it on he can be a real threat as we saw in a couple of brief moments yesterday. The problem is we haven't done that consistently as a team since the O'Neill days and I'm not sure that is the type of football Sherwood is trying to develop, which doesn't leave much room for Gabby.

  4. Bacuna will always be suspect at RB but we can get away with it at times. If we are looking to push on he isn't the answer.
  5. Think he will take some time to settle - he was never meant to be a direct replacement for Benteke so I think that buys him plenty of time. Will be hoping to see more of his potential albeit in isolated incidents going forward though.
  6. Can't help but think for all his tidy play we can do a lot better in that position which would in turn make such a difference to the team - a bit of a budget, legacy player from the Lambert era.
  7. Will be interesting to see how the team develops tactically - it's obvious to see there are flaws in the formation, any team capable of playing an accurate cross field ball seems to immediately have the ability to isolate our full backs one on one. Credit to Tim for the win yesterday.
  8. Very impressed with this guy, continues playing with that sort of class and we'll struggle to keep him beyond a year. Hopefully we've learned a lesson and inserted one big release clause in there.
  9. Goals on Sunday had the perfect set up for the Bournemouth victory parade this morning..
  10. Completed at 9.30 this eve after more time spent on any other game to date (including my proudest gaming moment on GTA San Andreas) - I searched, shagged and killed just about everything. Bring on Fallout, but in the meantime, I'll be having a hard-earned exploration of the world outside my apartment until November!
  11. Draw would be cracking result - would be interesting to see how Gestede changes things up front, might be able to hold it up and bring midfield into play. Still think we're missing a focal point at the head of that attack.
  12. Issue is mainly we are still lumping balls up to Agbonlahor as if he is Benteke, so maybe he will win 1 in 5 and when he doesn't in puts pressure immediately back on us. We did better in first 15 minutes which although lacked any sort of penetration at least showed some decent possession in midfield. Better teams would have punished our defending though.
  13. Can't really disagree with anything I've seen in the media - I can't subscribe to the notion that a bit of transfer activity equates to a massive spike in the optimism gauge after losing our two best players, maybe it's the complete lack of exciting windows the past few years. We've arguably strengthened the midfield and left-back provided they are able to hit the ground running - past experience would tell you it can be up to a full season before we see the best of certain players. We've lost one of the best strikers the club has ever had and whilst I agree with the apparent policy of not looking for a like-for-like replacement, there is no real guarantee where the goals will come from. Central defence has been an issue since we had one solid season of Dunne and Collins prior to Houllier and I don't think we've solved it by subtracting Vlaar and adding Micah Richards. I really do hope we can get a result today, after all on paper Bournemouth are one of the weaker teams in the league but the wider implications going into the season are still worrying. Haven't been this interested to see how the team will play since Lambert's first game against West Ham though - let's hope it's not as disappointing this time around!
  14. Horrific feeling about this one - we haven't replaced Vlaar nor found an adequate signing to cover Benteke (certainly not the Blackburn striker or an unknown prospect from the French league). We've arguably bolstered the midfield albeit they'll take time to settle. Never gone into a season with this much uncertainty, that's for sure.
  15. I like Micah, but not sure how signing the ex-City right back is going to solve our longstanding issues in central defence. Unless paired with an experienced and reliable centre half I really don't see his transition to the centre to be the answer. Really sets us up for a season of continued defensive mistakes in front of what became a below par Guzan. Hope I'm proven wrong.
  16. Wont pretend I knew him particularly well but know a few who were very close to him - obviously a big shock. He was a successful guy in his own right and I had only read an article about his latest project yesterday morning; he was doing great things for the IOM. RIP Stuart.
  17. Plenty of talk now about money having to be spent.. and by all means in a well-run football club it would be.. but would anyone really be surprised if nothing was done in the near future let alone by the weekend, eventually petering out into a loan move for Adebayor? Would love to be pleasantly surprised.
  18. Pretty poor final episode - it was far more gripping television in the build-up to burning Shireen alive. I'm not up to date with the books, so I guess I should be surprised with the ending, but I'm not at all really - more of the same GRRM formula to be honest. I can imagine there's a lot of people on Facebook, more likely women who get slightly damp knickers at the sight of Kit Harington, who are absolutely outraged though but it's all a bit meh IMO. As someone said above, bring on True Detective!
  19. Simply cannot wait for this. I must have had one of the strangest play-throughs of Fallout 3 - enjoying the trail trough the barren wasteland, stumbling across an abandoned old garage.. having some sort of epiphany inside and spot this strange looking button on the wall of the second room - then not only does this button work but opens a trap door.. to another Vault. Illustrates the pure brilliance of these games that I could have progressed the story in that way simply by accident. Bring on Fallout 4!
  20. Go for it - I finished the technical exams of the ACA in under 2 years and I couldn't recommend doing a professional qualification more highly. Sure, the periods during which you are locked in revision aren't brilliant, but remember these are only 6 weeks or so at a time. If you've found AAT relatively easy you're going to have a head-start when it comes to the ACCA, with potentially a fair few exemptions to boot. Good luck!
  21. Very much more than decent, Stevo. I'm a mid-twenties graduate living in London and not only am I not on anything close to that salary, I don't know too many other people who are either. Maybe if you work in finance or another very corporate position you might be on £35k by your mid twenties, but I can say with reasonable confidence that young people in most walks of life certainly aren't. Yeah that might be a bit high. Should probably be 25-30. BUt like I said, everybody's perception of decent will be different. 32 and at the bottom of the top earning bracket if that makes sense. But I do live and work. in the South East. I've learned recently that it's all so very dependent on location - I thought my salary at my new job was unreal, until I started paying £1,550 a month in rent. Striking the balance between location and salary seems to be the key should one be in the privileged position to do so.
  22. MIT published a paper on this and taking into account current technologies and various other factors the crew would be expected to die out after around 60-something days. Part of me thinks good effort to even reach that milestone, but we are talking about human lives. Space 'travel' did seem to hit a glass ceiling with the Moon, not necessarily with computer technology but from what I understand propulsion systems are more of the issue - I stand to be corrected but apparently these systems have barely advanced since the Moon landings. I haven't read into this Mars One caper enough to understand all the angles, but if they really are intending on turning it into some form of 'reality' TV show it really will end up as the world's most expensive snuff film.
  23. meeting went fine but I'm Not holding my breath. Wouldn't tell me the club but they've had over 50 CVs submitted for this job. So much for claiming he headhunted me. What he did was emailed it to every finance person he could find on his LinkedIn. You never know, but I'd be surprised if I make the shortlist. I'm not going to bash LinkedIn as its where I was originally contacted for my new job but it sure as hell makes it easier for those in recruitment agencies to spread the net!
