  1. Looks like it's going to be WW2 judging by the clip released in this tweet. Have to say I'm quite surprised by that. Thought they may have gone for Vietnam or a Modern setting since COD just did WW2. I found BF1 quite boring really, so not really feeling a WW2 game. Would rather a BF3 type setting.

    Trials

    I remember originally playing Trials or Trials 2 on miniclip.com back in the day, obviously since then the series has come on leaps and bounds but the premise is still the same. Downloading Trials Fusion now, looks really good IMO. Always fun games to play, anybody else getting it?
  4. Apparently this is rather good. I only ever played the original, back in 2002, but might eventually have to jump in with this. Obviously not everyone's cup of tea but I'm intrigued with how they've mixed up the gameplay from the standard hack and slash fare.

  6. Finally out tomorrow, the much delayed sequel the Xbox 360 gem has had a very long and troubled development, and the reaction? Shrug. The gameplay itself looks very very tired and while the graphics are technically impressive the art design is, imo, horrendously ugly. It looks like a generic Dreamcast game with the quality turned up to a million. It's simultaneously bland, garish, stark and dull. I guess if you really, really liked Crackdown a decade ago, this is for you. I really can't see it standing up to much else today. Oh and the multiplayer, made a different development team and with the destruction stuff they originally sold the game on added in, hasn't really been lauded much as far as I can see in quite some time. Still if you have Gamepass, it's not costing you much I guess.

    Xbox One

    Saints Row 4, Alan Wake 2, and a new COD game are also apparently already under development for Microsofts next Xbox. I guess it will be pretty much be a given that many here will buy it on release, and as much as I don't think I'll get one anywhere near it's release date (I have always been late to the party with Microsofts consoles I guess - didn't own an Xbox and only bought an old 2nd hand 360 on the cheap a good few years after release), I am really curious to see exactly what this will have under it's hood. The recent BF3 Beta has demonstrated very well that the latest in PC graphics can do considerably more than the latest home consoles, as the tech in those is getting on a bit now, after all. What features do you think we can expect? Blu-Ray drive? Built-in 1tb+ harddrive? Built-in motion control? MIND CONTROL?? 4D aka. SMELL-O-VISION???
  8. Got 10/10 on Gamespot & IGN. Reviewing very highly across the board. I've never played any of the games, don't know what they're about, don't know if I'd like them, but after reading the reviews, it almost certainly seems like there would be a good game there. Anyone getting it?
  9. Anyone picking up the new COD? I haven't played a COD for years, probably BLOPS1 was the last one I played. However, the new "Blackout" (Battle Royale) mode actually looks incredibly fun. All streamers seem to be loving it and i'm enjoying watching it too. The BETA for Blackout starts today on PC and Xbox for anyone who wants to give it a go. I've pre-ordered on Amazon for a code but will cancel the pre-order if it's shit.
  10. + Bioware blog mentioning next ME Will be interesting to see what direction they head in with the series next. A game set in a time period prior to ME, during the First Contact Wars or Rachni Wars, perhaps? The assertion that the founders quit due to EA is curious, could the next games be co-op heavy (blergh!) ? It's all a very long way off yet though. Plus the new IP. They've done sci-fi, they've done Tolkein-esque fantasy, they've done licenesed stuff with Star Wars, they've done dungeon crawlers and an MMO. Plus some anceint chinese set RPG or something (Jade Empire). Where next? Next gen, probably. Maybe they could make an actual properly good Pirate game, which hasn't ever been done, has it...?
  11. Just been to pick this up, and as a huge fan of the series I'll be looking forward to putting a few hours into it over the weekend. All the bits and bobs I've seen online have looked great and I'm hoping for the most polished Far Cry experience to date. Anyone else getting it?
  12. Surely we are very close to some info or a trailer now? Strong rumours about it being set in WW1 and a release date of Q3 2016. If true wont the weaponry be limited? Anybody got any other info/rumours? This will be a release day purchase for me.
  13. Ive not been a call of duty player in quite some time, since it went jet pack crazy. However it seems theyre giving ww2 another shout, anyone reckon itll be worth buying?
  14. Tldr; play this It's quite hard to describe this game. The majority of the gameplay is in the form of a 2d platformer, but it's definitely not a platformer. There are some light puzzles (at least that I've seen thus far), and lots of 'moral decision' type choices to make that affect outcomes of scenes and such. I don't know how much of a difference they make in real terms, if the game has multiple endings for example (at this point I'd rather not know! The mystery of everything so far is refreshing to say the least), but the game does alert you to missed opportunities. There's some collectable stuff as well. The tone is the most interesting aspect for me. In short, the concept of the story and world is you playing the role of Anne, an 'enforcer', and one of only two humans, apparently, that inhabit this realm. A realm which is the place where everything lost in our world is sent - but once they reach this place, they gain a voice, a mind, and are fully anthropomorphised. Upon arrival, the good stuff (fancy tables, for example) are given good jobs, and the not so good (an odd sock) are simply sent to the factory to work. It's also not clear at all at the start of the game why you're doing what you're doing, to the point that, well, you're almost certainly 'the bad guy'. This is all animated in a Ghibli-esque fashion, but to me, the animation is western in style, rather than overtly eastern. There's lots of grimey industrial imagery, and although I couldn't describe it as steampunk, there's that fantasy/gritty realism to it. It's important to point out that all of this is played out completely without humour, and is all taken very seriously. Without delving into the story too deeply, this is an adult story, with adult themes, and that in and of itself makes this an interesting game worth some time. When it's a story with this mix of style and originality, though, it really demands attention, I think. It's completely unlike anything I've played before. Weirdly the thing it reminds me of most is The Brave Little Toaster, for the simple fact that completely ordinary household objects suddenly have very specific personalities, and fears, and hopes, and agendas. There's something quite magic in that, a reason why to this day I still love the Toy Story movies - but in Forgotton Anne, there's something much, much darker going on than some Toys trying to get home to their owner. There's a little known anime series called Narutaru (Shadow Star) which has an incredibly twee opening. Some kids have these monster things that they can kinda control. It's a bit like pokemon. At first glance it seems all sweetness and light, but there's a growing uneasyness rumbling along, and quite suddenly, you're confronted by some utterly horrific content. There's not much like it. Sure, there are series like Higurashi which are twee and then wham, here's some gore. But that's it's usp. In Narutaru, that's not the case, you could shut your eyes and cover your ears and ignore the horrid stuff and carry on, but with an uneasiness that you're not fully comprehending. I have a similar feeling when playing Forgotton Anne, and it's very rare, in most mediums. Some authors are great at it, but I don't experience it often with movies or games. I think that's one of the biggest reasons this game has grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and refused to let go in a very short space of time. It's not perfect. The art looks nice from a distance, but when the screen zooms in on something it starts to look a bit shoddy,and it likes to do that frequently. The story may not interest some at all, and might just come off as a bit too weird for some. And none of the gameplay elements are anything you haven't seen before, or done better. The voice acting is great too, actually, as is the full orchestral score. I'm not familiar with the devs, but from what I can gather, they're a 15 person team based in Copenhagen. There are a few occasions when the low budget is apparent, but boy, what an achievement. I haven't played anything that's struck me as much as this since Life is Strange ep 1, what, 3 and a half years ago? Highly recommended.
  15. Anyone playing the Beta? Despite its flaws, I loved the first game (2015). It did not have a huge amount of content on launch but I really liked the casual arcade feel of the game. A lot of the early balance issues and grenade spam were fixed and I had a blast. Supremacy on Endor was probably the best map I've played in a multiplayer console shooter. The best thing in the beta is the space combat. I think it's good enough to carry the game and the closest we will get to a dogfighting multiplayer game on console. I didn't care much for the infantry fighting. There is a huge amount of grenade spam, little choice in weapons available and once defenders figure out that turrets are OP it will become a very frustrating experience. I also am experiencing frame rate drops during hectic action. The most egregious aspect is the new lootbox system. It's blatantly pay2win with some legendarys offering huge bonuses (40% extra base health on starfighters being the most obvious example) I suspect they will leave this in until month or two after launch then nerf the hell out of it. They did a similar thing with the preorder bonus (Han Solo's pistol) in the first game. This is the main reason I wont be buying at launch.
  16. Upcoming pirate themed multiplayer from Rare, on Windows and XBONE. Could be a return to form for them, after the Kinect stuff. Considering I'll probably never play it, unless it comes to PS4 (doubtful), I'm very curious about how it turns out. There's an insightful interview here which is worth a read, even if you're not interested in the concept of the game, then there's some insight in to the workings of the modern day Rare. I recall some discussion about a proper pirate game on here some time ago, and if anyone still has a hankering for one, well, I don't think you could do worse than anticipate this. In essence, you team up with 3 others and control a galleon. You'll have to do jobs, such as raise anchor, then have a look out, raise sails, steer, etc. but the suggestion is there isn't any hand holding. You need to communicate to get things done, and that goes for simply sailing the seas, to combat, to exploring islands for plunder and such. The linked intereview makes reference to a 'post No Man's Sky world' wherein the consumer is now more wary of dev's promises. Rare have a proven track record of course, so I'm hoping the myriad features 'promised' are indeed in the final game. There's also an interesting story about when Phil Spencer and some other MS bods played a very early version of the game at E3 (a video of which is not available to the public), in which they played the game in the opposite way Rare were hoping - basically the 4 players teamed up to get some treasure and get it back to the docks to sell, but on the route home, they dump one of their mates over the side of the ship so as to split the booty between less of them Rare hope most people will work together and only do battle with other ships... It's not procedurally generated, but the question has been asked of what you actually do in the game. At the moment, there doesn't seem to be much of an answer, although apparently there will be quests and a story line. They mention 'emergent gameplay' in the linked interview a few times, which the cynical side of me means you are expected to make up things as you go yourself...but at least the gameplay should be fun, at least in the short term. No release date yet, expected sometime next year.
  17. I bought this a while back and finally managed to play a bit of it over the last few days. It reviewed fairly well when it came out last year and was hailed as an attempt to make a mid tier game, the AA rank - attempting to have the production value of a triple A title but with reduced, more focused scope and smaller budget and price. I think it certainly hits those points. The gameplay is very focused, there aren't enormous amounts of systems going on and there isn't buckets of depth to it. The production values are excellent. And it came out at a reduced price. Is it good though? You play as Senua, a Celtic warrior woman haunted by a lost love and troubled by a 'darkness' in her mind. Senua travels to the land of the North Men, hoping to bring back her lost love, driven by tales of Norse mythology that say one could recover the dead. Along the way she is haunted by voices in her head, that house her, mock her, voice doubts and reassure her, and also by visions of a man from her past who knew the North Men and their ways. She fights manifestations of the North Men and their gods, and solves puzzles that involve finding runes in the environment. I like a lot about this game. It looks great, setting aside that Norse designs and medieval looking things are tired at this point, and other places it goes are notoriously hard to do anything original with. The sound design is awesome, playing with headphones is certainly recommended as you are beset by the voices in Senua's head appearing to surround you or even be in your own head. I like the little snippets of Norse mythology in there and the way it plays with them. The motion capture and animation is fantastic. The atmosphere drips off it. There's a problem though. All of those things don't involve playing it. Gameplay wise... We're on less good footing. There isn't a great deal to it, and that's fine. The game boils down to 2 main mechanics - fighting, and rune puzzles. The rune puzzles require you to find runes in the world to open doors that block your path. Inevitably this comes to down to finding the conspicuous piece of wood nearby you need to line up just right to look at correctly to see the rune. That's about the extent of it. Fighting meanwhile gives you a light and heavy attack, a dodge, a kick, a block and a focus move that slows time and removes armour from some enemies. Enemies come in about 5 types and you can guess what they are - the grunt! The heavy! The shield! The fast! None of this is much fun. The rune puzzles are tedious and never particularly change, just the nature of the 'game' around them. Sometimes there's a small puzzle around them - light the torches to make the right shadow, etc - and in one particularly bad case, find 3 runes in a maze whilst being chased by an instant death enemy that can break through the walls. The fighting just becomes a slog. The actual system works like a halfway house between a character action button basher and a Souls-like with animation priority, parrying and punishing enemies. Enemies aren't interesting to fight and aren't that hard to beat - the worst enemy in the game so far is only is more difficult because it moves quickly, hits hard and doesn't allow you to lock it into a combo, making each fight against it a battle of patience as you get a hit here or there and go back to dodging, hoping you can do your running heavy attack once in a while to get a brief stun on it. The game realises this after a while and starts making you either fight shitloads of enemies, or fight them in confined spaces, or gives them armour that means you can't hurt then until your focus meter fills back up and you can negate the armour with a button press. Eventually it decides it'll be really fun to give you all 3 of these mix ups. I've not quite finished the game as I decided I liked my controller more than I liked beating boss I just got to, which you fight in a dark room with a single bright spot, where the darkness kills you and the boss has an attack that blows you into the dark and then you can't get back to the light because you can't **** see it. It's a shame. I really like everything about the games presentation. It's actual gameplay though? Ugh.
  18. Season 2 has started and there is a free trial this weekend for anyone interested. I would heartily recommend the game. With over 20 characters there are tons of ways to play and I think most people will find their niche. Those not accustomed to fps can play as healers or mobile tanks with Tesla cannons. There's not much you can't do!
  19. Monster Hunter World is nearly with us. The review embargo just ended and it's received pretty much universal praise. The Monster Hunter series has been massive in Japan for years but never really managed to travel very well. It's a very idiosyncratic series, with lots going on and quite different to anything else really. Extremely varied weapons, an animation priority style fight system, reliance on co-op, a huge crafting system with food forming a significant element of it, and it's own take on a lot system... It never really caught on outside of some fans who adore it. This time, however, things have been... amended... to attract a wide audience and it seems to have worked. Crafting has been streamlined, game world mechanics have been switched to create something closer to a true open world, joining quests made easier... And they slapped a load of 'pretty' all over it. It looks great. It appears it is great. I played Ultimate on the Wii U for a while solo and kinda liked it, but hit a wall and gave in... Might be time to jump back in.

  22. Although it's already been mentioned in the Colonial Marines thread, the previews (hands on previews I should add) of this deem it sufficent enough to get it's own thread. Basically - it looks good. Really, really good. Rumours were true in that it is set between Alien and Aliens and has you playing as Ripley's daughter, while she tries to find out what happens to her mum, like. This leads her to a space station, and guess what. There's a Xeno onboard, ofc. It seems to be very much an old school survival horror game for the new gen - you will seldom have weapons, and the best tactic is to usually run and hide. There are cramped enviroments, moody lightning, and (for the most part at least it seems) only the one Alien that you have to...avoid being killed by, rather than killing it, it seems. It's been in development for 3 years for the new gen (although will be on PS3 and 360 aswell) as is one of the finest looking games I've seen for the new gen so far. Also, the devs confirm it's single player only, which is also encouraging. Can't really post any vid or pics, it's a bit difficult at work so er do it yerself if yer want.
  23. Rumours seem to suggest Microsoft will make some sort of announcement about this this week. I shan't hold my breath but it'll certainly be interesting if they do. They completely **** up with the Xbox One, lessons learnt? Will they manage to actually get the message on point after the disastrous mudding last year at E3? Will be obscenely priced? Etc etc.
  24. Surprised this doesn't have a topic yet. I downloaded it a week or so ago, and have only had time to play on a couple of occasions, but it seems really good fun. It's FREE on PS Store, it's in open BETA for a year or so - but it works very well. It's like PUBG (Player Unknowns Battle Grounds) - you and 100 other people get dumped into a map (you jump out of a bus held up by a balloon somewhere along it's journey) into a large, open map with small towns, forests, lakes etc. It's all contained on a large island. You get dumped with nothing but a pick axe which you use to destroy the environment which gives you resources (metal, wood & brick). You also find weapons (different colours = different level items) and ammo, ranging from pistols, to DMR's, sub-machine guns & assault rifles and rifles. With the resources, you can build fortifications quickly - so if there is a building you know someone is in, you could build a ramp up the house and go in from the roof. The name of the game is to be the last player/team alive. The thing that stops camping is a big storm which encroaches the island in a big circle. If you don't stay WITHIN the circle, you lose health and eventually die. The circle gets smaller and smaller, which pushes the players together and forces conflict. The storm initially doesn't move, and then moves intermittently which gives you fair time to gather weapons, harvest resources and make plans. It's cartoony in style, you can jump about 6ft, the weapons have RNG (random number generator) accuracy (meaning there is spread to your bullets, making distant targets hard to hit apart from rifles), but it's fun as hell with a couple of you playing. Should you die, you can quit the game quickly and just start a new game, so you don't have to wait around. That said, generally speaking if you get shot and lose your health, you get "knocked out" which means you can potentially crawl to safety and get revived. You have to shoot knocked out players to kill them permanently. Lots of videos about it on Youtube - but it's FREE and you should definitely download it and have a few games with people you play with. Because it's arcadey, you don't have to be a pro at shooting games. Random video for your pleasure;
  25. The F2P hero shooter, Paladins, has recently hit the PS4 as a beta and I have enjoyed playing it. It is very similar to Overwatch, for those used to that game, with a few subtle differences. The champions are more rounded, meaning that supports and tanks can output a fair amount of damage. There is no hero switching (rather there are moba-esque upgrades you can level up to counter certain set ups). Ultimates are far less powerful meaning the inevitable team wipes you get in Overwatch are rarely seen. It's obviously less polished & not as well voice acted but it's a decent game in its own right. So far it's not pay2win. All the champions can be unlocked with the founders pack (around £10-15) and the loadout cards can be bought with minimal grinding (I have been able to get the cards I want for any hero by about level 4). Aside from the founders pack, I can't see any reason to spend money in the game as the cosmetics are very basic at the moment. The only incentive may be to purchase xp boosts to decrease the time it takes to get into competitive play (at the moment it will probably take 20-30 hours to qualify)
