  1. To think, two clean sheets in 3 games and only got his chance because just about everyone in the defence was crocked.
  2. I think it was less to do with a bust-up and more to do with the fact he looked like he was playing with one leg against Southampton.
  3. Here is a man that, less than 3 months into the job, said he would quit on a whim. Should have gone then. Good riddance.
  4. She isn't doing the ACA - having done it myself I wouldn't wish it on anyone! She's doing a tax qualification (ATT) of which she's completed all but one e-assessment to finish it - my issue was the fact her original training contract was signed before 2 subsequent acquisitions and she signed a revised one with the current company only covering the remaining e-assessments - they tried to clawback 7k in the end which covered the written papers under the original contract. So she's staying for now but they can't claim back a thing once she's completed the qualification - so we shall see where we are at then.
  5. Passing my professional exams in more recent times - 2.5 years of stress and relative sacrifice all coming to a close with the promise of better money/quality of life ahead - first thing I did after calling my parents was to go sleep, and it was the best nap of my life! It was also the day of the Christmas party last year and all my mates had passed as well, so we proceeded to have one of the best nights ever - not even a minor annoying moment happened that night. Came crashing down the next day mind, when my landlord heard I'd passed and threatened to push the rent up or sell the flat! Since some of the other posts relate to football - the 6-4 against Blackburn is burnt into my memory, as is the aftermath of the Everton last-minute winner although I actually missed the drama having passed a TV showing the game at 2-1 to us before getting a call from my Dad.
  6. Pretty much my thoughts - I get to drink and spend time with the family which most of I get along with and enjoy the company of - it's also a time of year where people generally seem to be in a better mood, office parties/lunch and more drinking - so yeah, looking forward to it.
  7. I might be missing something but why can't your missus accept the job and hand her notice in? She (and by that I mean, us) will have to repay the training fees should she leave - which given the majority of which occurred prior to the subsequent acquisitions, the current business has no real idea of what they were and as such they will most likely be plucked from thin air.
  8. The missus has been totally f'd over by her current employer - she's had an offer from a 'Big 4' firm, which is exceptionally good given where she started from. The current employer is trying to go back nearly 4 years claiming various training expenses (bearing in mind she's also been through 2 acquisitions so those expenses weren't incurred by the current employer). Considering some form of legal advice, but it will most likely just end up too expensive and stressful given we're saving for a house. Feel so sorry for her, elated earlier on this week to feeling totally deflated by Wednesday.
  9. Just finished it - 9/10 for me overall and loved the ending.
  10. For probably the best actor in the world over the past 18 months, I think he was constrained by the ultimate direction of where the film was trying to go, I doubt he could have done much more given the script.
  11. Enjoyed Interstellar - some scenes were really pushing the boundaries - think he just tried too hard with it which is a shame. Also funny to see some people leaving the cinema during the more scientific elements - maybe they should add minimum GCSE/A-Level requirements as well as the 12A.
  12. A nice distraction from the Villa. Unfortunately if we're on the end of a battering it's double the pain!
  13. This, along with the Last of Us, are the only games my girlfriend has watched me play rather intently. 24.99 is a bargain - I picked it up in Tesco for 44.99. Had two terrifying deaths playing it last night - I wasn't that disappointed given how visually brilliant they are without giving too much away! (I also agree with the post above about sticking it on for about an hour or so and playing one mission at a time).
  14. I just have. Trust me when I say, Okore isn't an option right now. It really does make me sick - I know it's a well beaten drum that we have bad luck injuries, but injuries that have curtailed our most promising talent just seem ridiculous - Delph, Gardner, Okore.. even Benteke to a certain extent, Curtis Davies was supposedly a decent prospect before he snapped his achilles. Maybe I'm pushing it with the last one..but Okore seemed very comfortable last season considering the step-up in addition to the big sides we'd supposedly beaten for his signature... so frustrating.
  15. I hate Spurs - even more than I hate our customary loss to them each year. Just a change for once this year? Please..
  16. Bacuna did well at right back because of his energy added to the fact his appalling first touch (which is genuinely one of the worst I have ever seen, it's almost comical) wasn't under as much pressure in that position. His free kick taking was brilliant and arguably got us 6 points last season - on that basis I'd have him in the team ahead of Lowton. Still, it doesn't say much for either - Hutton coming back and playing how a PL right-back should for the most part has shown us what we were missing in that position.
  17. I was working on a team with 3 other females a couple of weeks back and one of them used this as an excuse for being generally a bit sh*tty with me and/or men in general. Not sure it was too appropriate for a professional environment however.. but hey-ho.
  18. Can't wait for Interstellar on Friday - really looks like it will be the perfect film for me personally. The fact it's released on my birthday must be purely coincidence . I've taken the day off work as well so will hopefully be able to see an earlier showing rather than risking having it disrupted by some tosser.
  19. Yeah it's pretty terrifying - I ended up getting a bit impatient (was playing half-cut at about 11pm) and read a walkthrough for the section I'm on and realised it will be my first encounter with the xenomorph, genuinely have mixed feelings about loading it up later on today!
  20. Just bought a PS4. Got COD: Advanced Warfare, Last of Us remastered, FIFA 14 (as 15 is apparently shocking), and Alien Isolation. Also got a couple of days of next week to have a good go - any other recommendations for games? Big AC fan but looking at those screenshots in the other thread it seems very average. The LOTR one will be a definite purchase.
  21. I have just finished up in the gym and about to buy a ps4 and this game on the basis of these comments
  22. Some interesting articles here about the current applicants: www.theguardian.com/science/2013/sep/10/mars-one-mission-space-travel-applicants http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-29130853 Some interesting thoughts in that last one - my favourite line being: When Van Meter's father, Ike, heard that she was one of those selected from the 200,000, he asked her how she could choose to do such a thing. "Imagine the grave site of the first person to die on another planet," she replied. There was a pause. Ike said: "Gosh, I see your point."
  23. Can we cancel his contract with no pay-off on the grounds of gross misconduct? Surely something positive can come out of this debacle.
  24. I've always stuck behind Lambert on the whole - I did however feel there was definitely a time last season where he had to go and feel exactly the same way again now, it's hard to feel a sense of perspective after a defeat like that. Trying to turn it on it's head I thought to myself, what if we'd lost to Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Everton in the first four games, then beaten Stoke, Hull and Liverpool, drew w/ Newcastle and now just lost at QPR - would I feel the same? Perhaps not, however I don't see any immediate upturn in form or results and it has been so typical of Lambert's reign to have a set of positive results and then end up completely back at square one - I think there's only so much the fanbase can take. In addition, I felt we had more than enough to beat QPR last night and Lambert simply couldn't get that performance out of the team. Sad to say, but Moyes or Pulis for me. I'd take awful percentage football with goals and resolute defending over awful football full stop.
  25. In fairness - you'd have to be a pretty keen neutral to be looking forward to this one! Every cloud!
