  1. After the game I was so annoyed I harboured thoughts that if we stay up I will give up my season ticket.....VARS is destroying the game, the joy of celebrating a goal has gone, in fact the enjoyment of the game of football played in this league is dulled, due to inconsistent decisions from consistently wrong referees and officials. I drive over 2 1/2 hrs to get to home games, I enjoy the walk to Villa Park, the crowd, the build up...what I don't enjoy much now, is the beautiful simple game that I love slowly being destroyed by pixels on a monitor subjectively being reviewed by some Representative for Wellingborough in a shed somewhere. Does anyone think that VARS decisions equal themselves out over a season? Regards to all you guys Derek
  2. No thanks to the A14 and M6 a 3 hour drive from Cambridge, I managed to get to my seat 15 mins before kick off, and then didn't get home until 01:30 this morning. But I don't care, what a night. My Villa scarf unwashed since the wembley final in 1971 has more battle scars of blood, sweat and tears added to it last night
  3. last League Cup semi final 2nd leg I went to was in 1977 the "epic" against QPR first leg (I think was 1 - 1) and at Villa Park it was 2 - 2 a fantastic atmosphere - I will never forget that. Then of course the replay at Highbury where I saw Sir Brian score a hat trick against what were the media darlings at the time complete with Stan Bowles their star player.... that song we sang that night....about Stan Bowles wife alleged affair at the time.... "Where's your wife gone?, where's you wife gone?, where's your wife gone Stanley Bowles? With the milkman, with the milkman, with the milkman Stanley Bowles" A classic!!
  4. Sorry mate I disagree, I want to be positive but we have seen this similar capitulation before this season Leicester, Southampton, Watford etc etc....we showed no "bite", resolve or fight....This league is unforgiving isn't it? no team can hide and just turn up play the "winnable" ones... We played out of our skins against Liverplop "fought like lions" and yet we can have a complete opposite approach to other teams "as much resistance as a chocolate fire guard" like yesterday. I just want us to look like we are at least playing the same sport as the opposition! I have to say though we did gift Ci£y most of their goals though. Regards
  5. This signing is a bit underwhelming to be honest...at least its not a 5 year deal. However in all honesty who are we going to attract in our position of quiet desperation Is our academy that bad that we have no younger "hungrier" players who could step up? I guess our situation is too risky to try untested players, but Drinkwater - a player who has not played competitive footy for ages....I am willing to give him a chance though. I am sure our professional footy people at Villa know what they are doing. Those that put the Villa shirt on deserve our support, until their first misplaced pass then the vitriol begins ! Regards to all Derek
  6. Happy New Year to all on VT I was lucky enough to spend Boxing Day at the Belfry as part of my daughters 27th birthday and a discounted hotel B and B deal (cannot afford it otherwise!) After getting back from the Villa v Norwich game, daughter and I were having a drink in the bar and in walked Elmohamady in his Villa training kit! an hour later when me and wife and daughter went for the evening meal we saw him again on his own in the restaurant (still in his training kit!). I did go up to him shake his hand and said "well played" and he said "thank you". I didn't want to disturb him anymore. He was a really friendly guy, he was on his own and I felt quite sorry for him. I think we sometimes forget that although they get paid tons of money for what they do, underneath they are "normal" people, quite possibly lonely being stuck in hotels etc We should "support" and get behind our players more and resist the urge to be negative towards them if they mess up - they are only human. Very easy to spiral into vitriol and "fickleness" in my opinion. All the best Derek
  7. Whatever happens we need to keep a clean sheet, we are leaking too many goals. I am dreading it but will try to be positive. I don't care about the result at Norwich they had 9 players out injured for that game. They will be up for this one, as someone said we are a wounded animal and the canaries are coming to peck us to death...or something !
  8. Oh and can someone with more tactical knowledge than me explain why Jack cannot play in the middle why out on the wing, it restricts him to half the pitch! Regards Del
  9. I thought we did ok against the scousers in the 1 - 2 defeat without Jack. Now I might get lynched for saying this but I think all the players look at Jack and expect him to do all the work. I wonder if Jack doesn't play then this means the others have to step up like they did against the scousers? I am not saying get rid of Jack but we do seem to be a one man team when he plays..... stop Jack, you stop Villa
  10. Southampton manager according to the BBC website looked at how Leicester played against us and basically did the same job. We are predictable and slow. How quick did Leicester and Southampton break and the numbers of players that made themselves available when attacking us? compare that when we attack, it is literally the complete opposite of that. I am sure the opposition have found the way to stop us and we don't have the answer, and without a solution we are going down. Southampton players were fighting for every ball because they have been in this position before. Other than Grealish I am not sure if any of our current team have experienced a relegation battle from the premier league before, and worryingly they don't look up to the fight to be honest.
  11. We don't have "show ponies" in our team, we have cart horses, slow and predicable.......something has to change or we are down

    The NSWE Board

On reflection I find it strange that high powered business men were happy to give Dean smith a 5 year contract at this point of the season. Common sense would say it should have been "keep us in the premier league and you will have a 5 year contract".....
  13. My comments: I was more upset at losing against Liverplop to be honest Leicester are the best team I have seen play at Villa for a while, they could have scored with nearly every attack Well once Mings went off injured if that is how we are going to defend without him, then we will go down. Leicester played like Villa did under Ron Saunders, so quick on the counter attack compared to our plodding build up, and as for Wes, I really want him to do well but he offered nothing during the game. We are playing with 10 men, my mother who is 85 would have scored more goals this season than Wes. Why are we so scared of shooting? Jack had a poor game, are other teams working out now that if they keep Jack quiet as we have no creativity if he is kept quiet? I know there was not much time to organise a proper send off for Ron Saunders but what Villa did on Sunday was shocking I was upset to see such an amateurish haphazard memorial of our greatest manager. oh well onto the next game Regards to all Derek
  14. Seeing as when DS was manager of Brentford when Bruce was manager of the Villa and how easily Brentford beat us or outplayed us every time, then all we need to do is play like Brentford and hope that the barcodes play like Villa... I admit am getting a bit worried now that we are going to go on a losing streak... Regards to all Derek
  15. From my view point at the back of the Holte, it is sometime difficult to see individual players (must get better glasses!) so I look at the team and the movement of players and patterns of attack, I have to say I am still frustrated by our final ball, corners and crosses, we should really be doing much more than this aimless stuff at times. I thought we kept the ball well and other than some major defensive lapses that we really should have been punished for (and would have if we had been playing liverplop), I thought we played well. DS gave some of those players the opportunity to show why they should be considered to play in the normal starting 11, some took the opportunity some didn't. Feel sorry for Keinan he looked gutted, he played his part but seemed to need to take two or three touches to get the ball under control. Good to get a win, thought the atmosphere was strange at times and it almost felt like a friendly. Other than the 3 1/2 hour drive back home to Newmarket in Suffolk, thanks to the M6 reduced to 1 lane and the poxy A14 closed I enjoyed the game last night It will be great to stop liverplop and their unbeaten run on Saturday... Regards to all Del
  16. Still nothing, I tried phoning but no reply (all lines are busy - as usual - I suppose that is a "good" thing). Is there a suitable email add I could use? I bought this for my daughter back in JULY! Not really good enough at this level to be honest, this sort of behind the scenes stuff needs to be looked at. As Demitri_C says, my daughter could use her membership without the card......so remind me what is the point of this mythical card ? Regards Del
  17. This dates me, ........watching Grealish play reminds me of watching "Chico" Hamilton or Frank Carrodus play all those years ago........please don't say "who?" Regards to all Del
  18. My daughter hates football on the TV, so 4 years ago asked her if she wanted to come and see a game of "football" at Villa with me cos its different live...... I said the only place to experience it is at the back of the Holte End..... she could not believe the noise, swearing and politically incorrect stuff being said (I think it was the Sunderland 6 - 1 game).........Well she loved the experience and loves going with me to see the Villa when she can ...but she is nearly 27 now...it is her DNA.....!....oh and she wears her Grandpa's scarf as well. To make it clear there is no way would I take a young child on the upper Holte... Regards to all Del
  19. My daughter is still waiting for hers...time to give VP a call I think
  20. Been watching Villa since the late 1960's.....I have to say a concrete traffic bollard has more movement than Wes... I am not convinced about him at all, and as for his "dying swan" act on Saturday, I hate to see any player doing that but even worse a Villa player. Still prepared to give him time but he does seem to be slow (in many ways) to adapt to life in the premier league. Perhaps others see it differently? Regards to all Del
  21. Last Saturday I wanted to buy a program, the kiosk inside the Holte did not have any change (no 50p coins). So why is there only one kiosk inside the Holte End? (maybe there is another one but I cannot find it). Why can I not use my contactless card? Why if the program is £3.50, is there not a supply of 50p change (or make the program £3)? Sorry about the "grumpyness" but it is the little things that can easily be sorted esp for a big club like ours Regards to all Del
  22. So this is the match where Ashley Westwood plays the game of his life and scores a hat trick against us...and after the game we will all wonder why why sold him?
  23. I think if we had lost by the expected 2 or 3 - 0 then I would feel a bit better about yesterday, but to lose the way we did......! It was funny and predictable to read the VT melt down though . I also find it strange that some on here praise player A of having a good game and yet another VT'r says player A had a shocking game. I suppose its all about expectations and view point I suppose. Ok let us assume that DS has no experience in game management, but next to him is JT, surely JT is able to advise what is currently happening to the team in the last 20 mins or so and take action? I am not a tactics or team formation expert as some are on here, but following the game yesterday on VT it was obvious that sitting back and inviting Arsenal to attack was very wrong. I would like to think that DS and JT know more about football than me and yet we make the same mistake over and over again. whisper it..."maybe we are not good enough either as a team or manager to cut it in this division, maybe we went up a year too early"
  24. If we do get a pen, who is going to take it this season? Jed and Tammy are gone....
  25. Q 3 What is your favourite colour? Q 4 Where is Bury located in the UK?
