  1. That may (probably) be true, but not to the extent that you can eat as many calories you want as long as they’re from fat, and not carbs, and that you can’t lose weight on balanced diet. You can eat carbs and lose weight. I’ve said before, I think people who think they’re losing weight from cutting carbs, are actually losing weights from cutting calories. They’re unintentionally eating less.
  2. No, it’s the narrative he’s trying to spin about himself as some kind of victim who never gets a fair chance at success, who is only criticised for some other reason than his actual ability as a manager, it’s how he’s always out to ‘shut a few people up’. He never really accepts any criticism, he always takes it personally. A lot of fans from a lot of clubs have suffered through some appalling football with Bruce as manager. But the fans’ criticism is somehow never legitimate, always personal. He’s picking these fights. Constantly. I’m sick of this self-pitying multi-millionaire insulting the collective intelligence of fans at every club he turns up. He has a reputation for being ‘nice’ but he comes across as a snide, petty prick. That’s why people don’t like him. That and his objectively awful brand of football.
  3. But he’s not just doing his job. He’s picking most of these fights himself, making completely needless and snide remarks about fans and other critics. He’s being a petulant child, when he should know better. For a someone often praised for how much of a nice man he is, he makes an awful lot of enemies and gets involved in an awful lot of media spats.
  4. People don’t like him because he keeps playing the victim and moaning about fans, taking it all far too personal. He’s been stealing a living as a manager, getting far more chances and being backed far more than his results merit. Yet he keeps making comments like that. It’s pathetic and petty.
  5. He’s a grown-ass man making a fortune in an emotion-driven, cynical entertainment business. This is why people don’t like him.
  6. Have all the likes in the world for that reference. I’m also quite confident Steve Bruce would choose cake.
  7. I have never lefter a bigger footprint anywhere. So proud.
  8. Several of these countries have fully reopened, with practically zero restrictions. Personally, I stopped paying attention to new cases a while ago.
  9. You’d have to pay me good money to drink red Coke these days. Loved it as a kid, but haven’t touched it since Coke Zero/PMax.
  10. Yep, hence the question. Coke Zero tastes much nicer than Diet Coke, and I haven’t actually met anyone who prefers Diet Coke. There must be people who do, though, since it’s still widely available. Who are these people?
  11. People who still buy Diet Coke. Are they somehow unaware of Coke Zero and Pepsi Max, or do they actually prefer Diet Coke? If so, ugh.
  12. Very true, but that is calorie counting, just without the counting. You’re doing the same thing, cutting calories, just that you didn’t need the counting bit to control it. Which is great, and preferable, if you can do it. I found the counting bit a helpful motivator and control mechanism, but for some it can make it unnecessarily complicated and stressful. Cutting cals is what actually matters, of course.
  13. A rule change really shouldn’t be necessary. All you need is a basic understanding of the game of football and the intention of the offside rule to remove any ambiguity about how the rule should be enforced in situations like the Mbappe «goal». It’s almost upsetting, certainly frustrating, that we even have to discuss this.
  14. Yeah, I can live with that. Kind of 50/50 for me. Good to have options, anyway.
  15. I do hope we go back to playing 4-3-3 asap. If that means dropping one of Ings and Watkins to the bench, or asking Ollie to play out wide, then so be it. Ideally: ——————Emi——————— Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett —————-Dougie—————- ———Meatball, Morgan*—— Emi2—————————Bailey** ——————Ollie——————— *Alternate with Ramsey and/or Chuk. **Use Anwar, Jaden or even Ollie, while injured.
  16. Can’t think of any, off the top of my head. I’m really not sure 5-3-2 is the way to go. Getting Watkins and Ings to work together looks difficult. Feeling kind of down about it all at the moment.
  17. I don’t know. I will usually defend Deano to the absolute hilt, but the coaching here after going 2-0 up wasn’t good.
  18. Pathetic. Bitterly disappoining. No excuses for that, I’m afraid.
  19. Fun fact! The southern tip of Finland is further south than the northernmost extreme of the UK. Helsinki is only as far north as Lerwick. Yes, I am available for parties.
  20. Been to the cinema twice since The Reopening (TM). First the new Bond film. Boring. Just boring. But then I’m no Bond fan in the first place. Very much one for the «Things You Don’t Get» thread. Then tonight, we went to see The Worst Person In the World, a Norwegian film by director Joachim Trier that received a lot of praise in Cannes, including the prize for best actress. It was absolutely brilliant. Reminiscent of Woody Allen in places, some obvious similarities with the Before… trilogy, but in my opinion even better. Just a really good combo of brilliant writing, fantastic acting, stunningly good photography, a flawless soundtrack, and without ever having to try very hard it just captivates your whole range of emotions from the very first frame. Also, it does a good job of capturing the beauty of Oslo, where the film is set, which I’m obviously a sucker for.
  21. Hmm. I’m now tempted to say ‘people who don’t know their word classes’.
  22. Terrible. The safety of elected representatives, including those on the wrong side, is essential to democracy.
