hogso
Daniel Johnson free kick from range easily saved by the sub Newport keeper. First on target of the half I think, not counting the near OG
hogso
Newport having it all their own way when the ball is crossed in. Another one swung in towards the penalty spot, no one reacts, header is barely wide.
hogso
And with that I'm signing off. Need to get back for the train. I'd guess there's 10 to go, with added time. Good first half, pretty terrible second. Newport really played the physical advantage and bossed anything that went in to the box. Morpheus
Thanks Hogso for that. Is it just coincidence that all our teams seem to be unable to deal with crosses into our box?

briny_ear
Oh dear... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2380414/Aston-Villa-reserve-lost-5-2-Newport-County-despite-promising-Premier-League-stars.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490 Who? Fans fork out £17 to see unknown Villa reserve side despite top flight club 'confirming' they would play stars By DAVID KENT PUBLISHED: 17:45, 28 July 2013 | UPDATED: 17:45, 28 July 2013 Newport County's 5-2 friendly win over 'Aston Villa' on Sunday was overshadowed by broken promises allegedly made by the Premier League club that they would field a host of star players. Villa's starting XI and substitutes bench did not have a single player with Premier League experience, despite Newport stating that Villa had assured them there would be some top flight stars in the squad. Youth: Villa's youth side were leading in the second half, but ended up losing 5-2 to the Welsh side Villa have stated on Twitter that the match was always registered as a development fixture, though there is still confusion as to what promises were made by the club. Tickets for the game were priced between £15 and £17 for adults, with nearly 3,000 fans turning up at Rodney Parade in the hope of seeing some Premier League stars in action. A statement on Newport’s official website prior to the game said: 'Further to concerns raised by Exiles fans directly to the Club about the kind of side that Aston Villa would be fielding in the friendly at Rodney Parade on Sunday, we have contacted Villa for clarification. Stuck in: Newport's Danny Crow and challenges Villa's Daniel Johnson 'Whilst you can never be certain in pre-season due to changes of plans, schedules, fitness and the progress of players, what sort of side any team will field, Villa have confirmed that the squad they bring will contain a presence of Premiership experience.' Despite Villa listing the game among their first team fixtures on the ticketing section of their website, the club did not have the clash in the fixtures and results list. Newport may be unhappy that the Premier League club did not state that the side would be a development XI, with Villa having previously used this to describe a youth friendly with Enfield just two weeks ago. The hosts ran out winners on the day thanks to an own goal from Josh Webb, Andrew Hughes, Christian Jolley and a Lee Minshull double. Jack Grealish and Danny O'Brien. Diving in: Newport's Lee Minshull is tackled by Villa's Ricardo Caulder Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2380414/Aston-Villa-reserve-lost-5-2-Newport-County-despite-promising-Premier-League-stars.html#ixzz2aMWeDeqV Follow us: @MailOnline on Twitter | DailyMail on Facebook
King Cropley
If true, it's a bit naughty.....wouldn't have hurt to send a few of the so-called 'bomb squad' down there.....they are still on the payroll after all. That said, it is the Daily Mail so who knows ?
Avfc96
It wouldn't have hurt to put someone like Bent on the bench and gave him a half an hour run out.
KjParton
If I was a villa fan who'd paid to go to this game and travel all the way (weren't there a few hundred there as well?) i'd be pissed if i didn't see any first teamers.
limpid Posted July 28, 2013 Administrator Share Posted July 28, 2013 Why are "news"papers still calling it the "Premiership"? There's been no such thing since 2007.
mikeyp102
£17 is ridiculously expense for pre season..if the club have promised first teamers it's poor pr and doesn't put us in good light

PieFacE Posted July 28, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted July 28, 2013 hmmm... I can see a friendly being arranged next season at Villa Park against Newport and all Newport fans who had a ticket for this can come for free. Or something to that effect. It is a bit shitty if we told them more first team members would be playing.
StefanAVFC
I think it was Newport more than. This fixture wasn't announced by us and the first I heard of it was when Newport announced it.

Electric Avenue
Bit of a strange one playing Newport ? Why didn't we just play Solihull Boro or Kidderminster ? Odd one.
