TrentVilla Posted June 12, 2013 Moderator Share Posted June 12, 2013 Players fault according to Stuart Pearce, sure it is Stuart, sure it is. After those 3 performances and that interview he simply can't stay in the job. He has 23 wins in 30 in qualification games but just 4 in 15 when he gets to the finals, kind of says it all about his ability.
villa_shere
Is there a name and shame list of players available to england u21 who didnt go? (this may include players called up to the first team friendlies) EDIT: found the list Luke Shaw; Raheem Sterling, Callum McManaman, Martin Kelly, Gary Gardner, Will Hughes Phil Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Wilshere, Jack Rodwell, Danny Welbeck, Tom Carroll,Andros Townsend Not forgetting our players Matt Lowton, Nathan Baker and Kieren Westwood. Unknown reasons for not being selected. Edited June 12, 2013 by villa_shere
Zatman
that list is bit tarnished as Wilshire, Welbeck, Sterling and few others are injured, Townsend was suspended. Ox should have went and Kieron Westwood is an Irish international
AVFCforever1991
Phil Jones should have went as well. And I think Lowton would have been too old. Edited June 12, 2013 by AVFCforever1991

Glarmorgan
Well... everyone here still can't believe that our crappy team managed to beat England. Your team is way too weak for this level and you should be glad that you've got the group with Israel rather than the one with Spain or Holland. TrentVilla Posted June 12, 2013 Moderator Share Posted June 12, 2013 Why? We couldn't lose any more games That was at best our 2nd team but still on the day your crappy team managed to beat our crappy team. England it seems have done what they always wanted, they've developed youth sides that mirror the first team and who's players can make they step up. Glarmorgan
True, but think of the hammering the Dutch would inflict on your wobbly side. On a personal note - this was very disappointing tournament for Israel, but when I look at the English team - I see no real talent other than Redmond. I know this is the 2nd team, but this 2nd team would have hard time handling in our mediocre Israeli league, not to mention the Permier League. I guess it was a good scouting opportunity for Preston or Colchester to learn of their players to be...

BOF Posted June 14, 2013 Moderator Share Posted June 14, 2013 The only thing I'll give him credit for is that interview after the Israel game. Yes it smacked of the kind of honesty that only comes with knowing you won't be around to have to explain yourself much longer, but he did speak sense and it's the kind of thing you'd ordinarily only hear in a dressing room. That when players are told something 10 times and they don't do it, it's them that should be defending those results. Pearce is clearly a shit manager but if players won't follow instructions then they've to look at themselves to some extent too.Apart from all of that though, there are bigger problems. The England set-up is a poor one. They want success in major tournaments with the senior side while turning their nose up at under-age tournaments. Where exactly do they think these players gain the experience to compete in major international tournaments? The sooner they realise tournaments are as much about mentality as they are ability then they might start to progress. Meanwhile they're still convinced they're a major world force. They definitely should be and they could be if they did it right. But they're not. They're the very definition of a sleeping giant.
