TrinityRoadSteps
Or even N85M for that matter I saw that too. Is it Randy's jet? It's one he uses yes Would this be the G450? Owned by five star holdings who are based in Texas. N85M Yes
DCJonah
I think he's here to ensure PL doesn't walk. You know what that's probably bang on. I can't see anything else that would make him fly over and stay. He's a desperate man right now.

Dodgyknees
Well no, it's not, is it? It's your opinion. You're right! It's my opinion that, if Lerner had bought from a previous owner who was actually liked instead of hated, and we'd done what we've done under Lerner's reign, he would have faced large protests to try to force him out. So it's not fact and is purely a hypothetical musing then? You don't think it's played any part in the patience fans have had with him? I think it's more to do with the fact that under his stewardship we, albeit for a fairly brief period, were as good as we have been in a hell of a long time before we slumped down to this mess. "Were as good as we have been for a very long time" isn't exactly true IMO. In the Premier League we have had 8 seasons under Lerner's ownership, of which, 4 of them have seen us finish in the bottom half. Although, to be fair to him, his first season he didn't have much of an input into the team. In the previous 14 Premier League seasons before Lerner's arrival, we only finished in the bottom half on 3 occasions. I really don't think that 3 consecutive top six finishes should be held as a defence for some of the worst football, results and managerial failures that this club has known, certainly in its recent past. He shoots, he scores.
DCJonah
Have to say I'm slightly confused. We seem to be signing players and paying wages that we were unable to do last summer. It seems strange that as Lerner wants out our transfer policy changes so Lambert isn't as restricted as last summer. Is this Lerner realising it has to be done or were we not in a position to do this last summer?

It's a guess but I think since Lambert took over it has been solely about getting the club's finances ready for a takeover, hence the cost cutting. Now Randy is willing to sanction short-term deals to protect the club whilst he finds a buyer. We can basically afford up to £20m without losing money I think. The policy was a risky one that hasn't worked out you need a blend to get results it seems they've learnt this. I doubt we will ever sign anyone over 28/29 where a decent fee is involved. Buying youth isn't a bad policy buying cheap youth is as it relies on more luck than anything.

momo
But where is the TV money? How come Villa has a 1996-budget, while the other teams are using their TV money?
suttonpaul
You see momo this is the problem supporters on mass don't get it! Every other club gets pretty much the same TV money and mostly the same sort of gate revenue. The gate revenue used to be a big part of a clubs budget but now its a pittance compared to the TV revenue. The meat is in sponsorship and merchandising THAT is the big difference between us and the rest.

If you are going to rely on cheap youth, you *must* have 3 things in place: - An excellent scouting network - A decent manager - Time We have none of the above. PussEKatt
There is only one word for Lerner ( unfortunately it cant be printed here ) If he could not afford the ongoing running costs of a Premier League club he should not have of bought one ....that word again. PussEKatt
Check this out: Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner has vowed to make on-field matters the focus, despite "productive" talks over the sale of the club. Source Omnisport 7 Jul 2014 - 9:43 PM UPDATED 7 Jul 2014 - 9:52 PM 0 Lerner announced his intention to sever his ties with the Premier League club in May, provided he received an acceptable offer. The American owner has been so far unable to broker a deal, but on Monday stated he had been encouraged by the progress that has been made. Lerner added that he will be making no further comment on a potential takeover until a sale has been agreed, as he is concerned that speculation could affect Villa's preparation for the new season. "This statement is intended to provide clarity regarding the status of the sale announcement I made in early May," said Lerner. "Over the last eight weeks we conducted a targeted process during which we explored the sale of the club. "In advance of this process however, I committed to our manager to become completely focused on the upcoming season should there be no agreement to sell by the time players and coaches return to training. "Given that no agreement has as of yet been reached, I feel that it is time now to turn my full attention back to Villa matters at hand. "While the sale process has been productive and remains ongoing, my priority at this point in the summer, heading into the upcoming season, is that the Villa organisation’s sole focus be football - undistracted by any sales process. "Reverting to common practice, I do not intend to comment further on a potential sale or related rumours unless and until I have reached a definitive agreement to sell, at which time I will be prompt and clear." suttonpaul
We were making a loss momo when spending 20m a year the new tv money brings us to break even spending the same budget we have had over Lamberts time. Doubtless there is probably some FFP factors at play here and what really shocked me was the average wage of a PL player now is now 60 to 65k a week....... seriously? WTF! How much do you think we pay out in wages and the general day to day things at Villa over the year? Season ticket sales and ticket sales would normally pay for 1/4 of what we spend over the year imo, tv revenue and sponsorship helps pay for the rest. Tv revenue has risen, season ticket sales this season would have fallen a lot. The tv revenue will help more in areas that tickets sales cannot this year.
