If this was a few years ago and it was Barack Obama who went on the exact same trip, with the exact same results, putting the NK flag on parity with the US flag, agreeing to stop military preparedness drills, weakening the US' defensive posture in the Asian sphere, in exchange for nothing but an unverifiable verbal agreement with absolutely no teeth, without consulting with their allies in the region, HE WOULD BE GETTING ABSOLUTELY CRUCIFIED BY THE RIGHT WING AND FOX NEWS.

Absolutely crucified.

Add to that if he’s just spent the last week and a half taking on our allies with aids saying there is a special place in hell for the Canadian Prime Minister while talking up the honor and privilege of meeting Kim and how good and trustworthy he is?

Jesus. The inconsistency is maddening.

There is no objective, rational, congnizant thinking for yourself in America anymore.

It’s dead.

The exact people praising this, are the exact people who would have condemned it if it were Obama if the exact same scenario had just played out under him.

Rod Rosenstein has opened an investigation into Nunes . This must mean that Mueller has them all pinned down. Michael Cohen said he expects to be arrested this week.

Meanwhile, Trump just played diplomatic miniature golf and his supporters love it. He has a head of steam going now. Hard to look away, but hard to watch.

A number of members of the congressional group said the Rosenstein threatened them with the full power of the DoJ, during a congressional oversight session in recent weeks in response to questioning. That's a very unhealthy development given that congress was democratically elected and has legal oversight responsibilities. Ya, I know congress is full of bought and paid for unscrupulous types.

The GOP is a criminal party.

Or alternatively:

Devin Nunes' staffers threatened to hold Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein in contempt of Congress during a closed-door meeting. Rosenstein responded by reminding them that if they did so, he would be able to call them as witnesses & subpoena their comm's to defend himself. Devin Nunes' staffers responded to this (entirely reasonable) reminder that Rosenstein, too, has due process rights by spinning a misleading story to Fox News, claiming that Rosenstein had threatened to launch a criminal investigation against them. Fox News ran w/ the story. A DOJ spox responded today: “The FBI Dir., the senior career ethics adviser for the [DOJ], & the Asst. AG for Legislative Affairs who were all present at this meeting are all quite clear that the characterization of events laid out here is false.” Now, Deputy AG Rosenstein plans to call on the House general counsel to investigate the conduct of Devin Nunes' staffers, who apparently not only leaked information about a closed-door meeting, but lied about it. And Rosenstein has multiple witnesses backing him up.

Of course if you are only watching Fox news you may have missed the rest of the story.

Flipping heck

Quote

Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen likely to cooperate as his attorneys leave case, sources say

Cohen, who is under federal investigation now with no legal representation, is likely to cooperate with federal prosecutors in Manhattan, sources said. This development, which is believed to be imminent, will likely hit the White House, family members, staffers and counsels hard.

Cohen and Manafort are going to flip any day now. Mueller will strategically leak the damning details and then moderate GOP  will begin to call for resignation.

Nah. Nothing will happen.

John Oliver from the other night is worth a watch, he did a section on the media and Trump camp's response to the ongoing investigation. It's all an attempt at throwing so much shit at the investigation that narrative shifts to such an extent the truth doesn't matter and impeachment has even less support.

Trump will be fine, unfortunately. Keep hoping for that cholesterol intervention.

Cohen is about to flip. His lawyers are not expected to carry on with the case and no new lawyers have been identified.

Manafort on the other hand might just go to jail for a very long time

Excellent. I am aware of this btw., and not simply spinning a line. There is much more wrong with the US government than Trump and the desire to defer to those in the security establishment is worrying, e.g., w.r.t. the DoJ, see the torture memo or the legal justification for the murder of US citizens from the Obama DoJ for a start.

I only wish full details were reported instead of editorialized more often. Do note the amount of he said/she said in here though and there is not much credibility doing the rounds these days... muck throwing instead of governing is how things currently work ?

Having a narcissistic xenophobe running the most powerful country on Earth surely must move the Doomsday Clock a few seconds away from midnight?

Trump Foundation, including Trump and his family, are being sued by New York over 'extensive and persistent law breaking'. Mostly revolves around the charity being used to support his political campaign. Which is illegal.

Sadly the latest chapter of the Trump crime family story will be buried by the DOJ watchdog report which was released today.

It claims Comey violated FBI norms but was not politically motivated. Trump and the GOP are going to make an enormous amount of hay about this.
