paddy
Bale would cost more than we're willing to pay I'm sure. He's got a massive reputation at the moment so will cost about £6m I reckon, being linked with the big clubs trebles your value. Not like he's a hidden talent is it? So an atteacking player like Walcott goes for £5 million; how come he would cost £6 million. I think he’s worth £4m max, and then addons; such as Wales making the world cup Ok you maybe right, but in addons it would come to at least £6m, probably nearer 10, with about 2 up front. quizme
I saw the Cagliari-Milan game today, and I have to say that David Suazo the Cagliari striker looked a class above everybody else on the pitch in that game. Think he´ll join a much bigger team than Cagliari soon. Why not Villa?
Rocafella
One thing is what people think, which is Arsenal needing players to compete with the best. Another thing is what Wenger sees, which clearly isn't the same. I have always imagined SWP as the ideal person for Arsenal, let's hope he doesn't end up there. True, but I'd bet we'll see José insisting that he goes somewhere smaller (à la Duff to Newcastle) to make sure that he doesn't go to an immediate rival. SoccerHQ
Well, one of the things I don't like about modern football is the fact now whenever a players shows a bit of promise above an average level, a big club who might not play him signs him e.g. SWP, Walcott rather than let them develop actually playing games of football for another year or something. Yes, Arsenal have been linked with Bale but Clichy is there already and he's only about 21 isn't he. He is a good prospect but I'd prefer him to stay with Saints until the end of the season. cyrusr Posted December 3, 2006 VT Supporter Share Posted December 3, 2006 Bale I think could be a good call. Seems an excellent prospect and I think he has got the reputation now to push him to the premiership. However I don't think its a big enough reputation that will take him straight to one of the top 4. Could be ideal for us. Perhaps let Samuel go the other way. Also seems like Henry has had a row with Wenger... perhaps he might move on in jan? :winkold:
Trinity-Tom
Apart from his free kick taking, what else do people know about Bale? I have hardly seen him but can't help noticing that Southampton seem defensively unsound.
NASTY_LEE
It was Henry who said Arsenal should sign SWP. Can't see Wenger taking his advice at the moment somehow.

irishjay
Apart from his free kick taking, what else do people know about Bale? I have hardly seen him but can't help noticing that Southampton seem defensively unsound. He is very quick and athletic and from what I have seen of him he is in the Ashley Cole mold much better going forward. He is very good at overlapping and getting crosses in but he defensive abilities are still unknown to me.
PauloBarnesi
I ve only heard good things about him. That doesn’t mean he is great. Depends on the price I guess. I ve just never been impressed by Bouma and Samuel just seems to have lost the plot.

BOF Posted December 4, 2006 Moderator Share Posted December 4, 2006 We wont get Bale because bigger London teams would bid. And as for waiting til he develops - isn't that a bit like saying "Why buy him now for £6m if we can wait a year and buy him for £15m".
PauloBarnesi
Bigger London clubs? That will mean Arsenal and Chelsea. So do Chelsea need a left back? er don’t think so. Do Arsenal? Yes. Arsene says they won’t be bringing anyone in (probably a lie). But I just don’t see why he wouldn’t learn from Theo Walcott’s lack of football. He comes Cardiff, not Paris, so I am not sure the ususal all players want to play in London will work. MON seems like a man who wants he gets to work on a player will get his man (apart from when a fat Geordie pulls the rug from under the feet) rather like Clough. He will move hell and high water to do this. The question is do we want Bale; we have added two and two together and as usual made five. Personally I don’t rate Bouma, and I don’t think the Bouma/Barry axis works at all. I can see Bale/Barry working like Samuel/Barry did in the second half of DOLs first season. Samuel’s failings defensively were made up with Barry being in front, and Barry’s lack of pace was made up with having a player behind him with pace to burn. Its sad that it all went wrong for Jlloyd.
BOF Posted December 4, 2006 Moderator Share Posted December 4, 2006 Well I was thinking Arsenal when I said it. I don't think we can rule Chelsea out either if they think they could sell Bridge. They could also do it just so no-one else can have him - sort of a modern-day Gianluigi-Lentini-itis.
PauloBarnesi
I think Chelsea’s policy is this; if Arsenal and Man U are interested, we are interested. Totally ruining football. I know that Walcott and Bale used to be pretty good mates; they roomed together at the Saints, so it depends on what Walcott thinks of Wenger. He seems a very grounded kid, so if he is still in awe of the French professor and tells Bale this, we probably haven’t a chance. If he says he isn’t sure then we have a good chance. What are Arsenal’s finances like; if they drop out of the CL then there will be a tightening of the belts surely?
MR.Smalljob
Forget Milner!! http://tinyurl.com/yzyaus Milner wants United futureDec 4 2006 By Luke Edwards, The Journal James Milner is confident Newcastle United will reject Aston Villa's attempt to sign him in January after the young midfielder suggested he had never been happier with life at St James's Park. Milner was due to move to Villa Park on deadline day in August, but the £5m transfer was aborted when Mark Viduka decided to stay at Middlesbrough. But, while Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder was criticised over his handling of the incident, Milner has recovered and appears to have become an important part of his manager's plans. Villa are expected to make another approach in the New Year, but Milner, whose commitment and steadily improving performances have also made him a popular figure among the club's supporters, does not think he will be going anywhere. "There are constant rumours about Aston Villa, but I think I'll still be here in January, I certainly hope so," said Milner, who has already made 23 appearances this season following a year on loan at Villa. Story continues ADVERTISEMENT "When you're at a club like Newcastle you are going to get these sorts of rumours the whole time, but it doesn't affect me. I'm going to concentrate on Newcastle, playing my football and getting on with the job of getting us back up the Premiership table. "It's no secret that I'm enjoying myself here this season. You enjoy your football more when you're playing well and you play well when you're getting a regular run in the side. "I'm getting that here. The manager's got tough decisions to make in midfield because we have a lot of quality in that area. You've got to play well to stay in the team, but I'm enjoying my football and I'm showing my best form. "Hopefully I can continue to keep improving here." The Journal understands that United will not be making another bid for Viduka in January. The Australian, who has not played since September because of injury, is out of contract at the Riverside Stadium in the summer, but Roeder has other targets. The Magpies, who were yesterday handed a trip to Steve Bruce's Birmingham City in the draw for the FA Cup third round, will sign a left back - probably Wayne Bridge - and a centre back - possibly Zat Knight - and hope to bring in two strikers, one of whom is believed to play in Holland, when the transfer window opens. Albert Luque will be sold to Villareal to raise much-needed funds, but the worry remains that, if a large offer does come in for Milner, it will be too attractive to turn down. Milner, though, is utterly unfazed by speculation and is concentrating on making sure he helps Newcastle pull away from the relegation zone. Sheffield United's 2-1 win over Charlton on Saturday sent them back into the bottom three, although Roeder's side do have two games in hand over the Blades. A home win over Reading on Wednesday night would lift them back out of trouble and Milner added: "It's nice to be able to put the Uefa Cup on the back burner for a while and concentrate on more pressing matters in the Premiership. We've got two games a week until after Christmas and only the Carling Cup game against Chelsea isn't a league game. "We need to pull away from the bottom in the Premiership, knuckle down and get a few players back from injury. I think we've shown in the last few games that we do have a lot of quality in the squad, even if it isn't the biggest. "We do not want to renew European competition in February still fourth from bottom because that isn't good enough for Newcastle United. "We have put in some good performances recently and we have looked a lot more solid. Our last two games in the Premiership against Arsenal and Portsmouth have brought good results and we need to build on that. We've got a good run of games coming up and hopefully we can keep it going." Meanwhile bookmakers William Hill believe Glenn Roeder wil be the next Premiership manager to be sacked. West Ham boss Alan Pardew currently stands at 11-4 second favourite which makes the United boss favourite for the chop at odds of 13-8. Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate is currently 5-1 to lose his job while the odds of nobody being sacked this season lie at 16-1.
