Carlos Cuellar - Released

think its a bit of bitterness about getting a new deal and i think was right not to renew his contract. He was an average player signed for big money.

No sorry, think you are wrong with this. A number of people have been treated badly and not all on the playing staff. There is a disease at Villa and it started from the top and is now spreading down.

Cuéllar was largely overlooked by 4 consecutive managers, one of whom bought him. If you honestly believe that's a symptom of some disease at Villa rather than because of his lack of quality in the opinion of those 4 managers then I suppose that's your choice.

If that is a case, he would be glad to leave and not bitter enough to do this over not getting said new deal.

I don't see how he can argue about getting a new deal when; as I said; 4 managers overlooked him. Whether we think it's right or not, that's what happened. If he'd been a better defender then he might've got a new deal or been played more consistently.

Its not about getting a new deal, its how he was treated in his last year. I think CC is a decent guy, well certainly comes across as one. He would not take a pot shot I believe without just cause. In his eyes anyways.

Oh my god, if he was that bothered about his contract and he felt aggrieved that no one had spoken to him then he should have knocked on Faulkners door which is all of a 20 yard walk from the players entrance at Bodymoor and just asked the question.

Sorry Brian but that is simply wrong. In 2009/10 he started 36 league games and started a further 12 cup games. He wasn't far off being an ever present. In his other season under O'Neill in 2008/09 he started 33 games and a further 4 as a sub.

Agree CC, should have knocked on the door and questioned why are you signing Bosmans but not looking to renew me? The fact is Cuellar knows he'll get a good whack if he leaves as a Bosman. Like someone else stated if it's so bad ask Petrov or Laursen about the board?

Yeah fair point, my memory of O'Neill's time is dimming. Make it 3 managers overlooked him and the one that bought him didn't.

Don't understand some people here.

He didn't ever moan when he was on the bench/when not getting games, he always came across as professional during his time at the club and now the club have let him go without discussing it with him; if anything the board should be questioned as to what on earth do they do when it comes to contracts? Also whenever Faulkner has discussions with agents it usually ends up with that player leaving (probably has nothing do with this but it is a worry).

Problem under O'Neill was that most of those games were played at right-back. MON never seemed to feel Carlos was good enough to be first choice centre half yet was reluctant to leave him out of the team, even when our specialist right-backs were available (Luke Young and later Habib Beye)

and id say about 5 of them games were in his natural position. The guy who bought him had no confidence to put him in centre of defence

That may be so. Facts are though that Carlos was a big part of the 4th best defence in the Premier League in 2009/10. A season that was also our most successful 38 game Prem season points wise and a season in which we had two excellent cup runs.

For me the defence that season was a big part of our relative success and Carlos started 48 games that season.

It seems a **** lifetime ago now though unfortunately.

Agree with this. Don't see what was wrong in his statement and he has simply expressed an opinion after being let go with seemingly little/no communication.
