Habib Beye (left AVFC by Mutual Consent)

Beye has been strange for us. In games vs top teams he has played he was very good at Anfield, vs Chelsea last season and won MOTM vs Spurs when they battered us a few years ago.

Think the crucial part of his Villa career was the West Ham game when he got sent off really unfairly and seemed MON lost trust in him after that

Spot on that.

He has been made a mock of by fans due to his wages and total lack of appearances imo.

He came to Villa as Newcastle's player of the season, but never got a run at RB, just used sparingly.

Good luck to him.

Hutton has been decent going forward in the 2 last games he has played for Villa, other than that, not showed a great deal. His first 5/6 games were shocking, he has been lucky not to get sent off and give away a fair few penos. Seeing as a fullback has a job defending, he has been terrible with that side of game.

Yep that's the way I remember it aswell.

The way I saw it when we signed him was that him and L. Young (who's half brother died around that time) would compete for RB once Luke was back and Carlos would just be used at CB.

Of course what happened is we played Carlos at RB for most of the season so Beye and Young, earning a combined 80k a week were both bench warming.

Habib Beye is a good player. Not sure why we signed him to put him on the bench. Very bizarre.

He was signed as a squad filler, bizarre we should have just kept Ridgwell or Samuel ??

very expensive error by Martin

Shocking wages for a squad filler if thats the case. Absolute disaster of a signing and giving him the contract at his age we knew should things go wrong we'd never recoup any money on him

how did beye a good player at Olympique Marseille half decent player at newcastle end up been tripe for us ?

Our recent history is littered with players who just don't perform as they had done previously, the list is massive and I have no clue why that is.

Balaban, Collymore, & Ireland to name a few. Also players that leave tend to improve massively in average performance once they get out of VP. Ashley Young for one, loads better for for the next club.

Could the same not be said for any club though? It's easy to pick examples like that, just like it's easy to pick examples of the complete opposite - Given, expected to perform to a high standard and has done. Downing, sold for a high fee, and not performing as well at his new club as he did for us (yet).

As for Habib, good luck to him, I know he has cost us an awful lot of money considering he has been completely anonymous in regard to the first team, but I'm sure the guy just wants to play first team football before the end of his career - which can't be far off. More than that though, he will finally be off of our books!

I see what you mean but the problem is we don't have the luxury of mistakes as other clubs do. Man UTD can buy a player (Eg Veron) and get it spectacularly wrong, Manger still there & titles won. If we make a mistake it costs us half a decade to recover, if ever + usually costs someone their job.

The big problem with Beye is we signed him at 31 and gave him a 3 year contract, same with Heskey. Signed him at 31 and gave him a 3 and a half year contract.

We should not be giving players who are 30 + 3 year contracts unless it's a keeper like Given who we know can still contribute greatly into his late 30s.

If we'd given Beye and Heskey 2 year deals, both could've been unloaded in the summer.
