And add to the fact that they should be attractive for foreign buyers - due to their lack of rich owner and lack of huge debt. They have the same amount of fans (if not more) and have done much better than ourselves in recent years so calling them a nothing club is nothing short of ignorant.

You didn't read the article by Keigh Harris, who has advised on several takeovers, including ours?

The fact that they require huge expenditure on a stadium, and share the fan base of a "not wealthy city"witha large successful club, makes them unattractive to purchase.

Edit here - found the quote -

Everton, the other Premier League club which has instructed Harris to seek investment, is, he said openly, not as encouraging a proposition to buyers looking to increase the value of their investments.

"There is no progress at all," Harris said. "The demographics of Liverpool as a city are not hugely compelling. It is not a very wealthy city; Everton share the city with another club which arguably has been in the vanguard for the last decade and they both have a stadium to build. So the economics need a lot of looking at."

Never really thought about that, but i suppose being in the shadow of one of the worlds biggest clubs really doesn't help.

They have a couple of good players a very very good manager decent fan base but i dont like them. And i dont kiss arse because a young girl posts on here.

I listed him in my little collection of 'admirable mentions'.

Not the most fashionable of players but he does the job he's put in the team to do.

You don't become a Premiership captain by being shite.

I think Phil Neville is a very good player. He was out of his depth at United, but could get in to most teams in the Premier League.

Phil Neville is shite.

Completely and utterly mediocre footballer who was surrounded by greatness at Manure. Same for Nicky Butt.

Well then, I must be mistaken. Everton must have finished 5th while practically playing with 10 men last year then.

Some of us appear to have developed Newcastle or Redscouse-esque delusions of grandeur.

League of our own? Do me a favour.

Everton have finished ahead of us for a good few seasons now, they've achieved something that we haven't done in nailing that hallowed 4th spot and they have a solid squad who have been together for years.

We could ask how many of their players would get in our 18, but they could say the same. Laursen, Barry, Young. After that, there's not much in it.

There was plenty of wailing and nashing of teeth in the summer from the blue half of Merseyside due to their delay in the transfer market. But in the final analysis, they were able to bring in a number of players, albeit late in the window. Fellini (sp) is an improvement on Carsley and Saha (when fit) is an improvement on Johnson.

They've been pretty dire so far this year, and yet they are still not a million miles of us.

They'll be up there in May, no question. They might not play total football getting there, but then that hasn't stopped them before.

Don't see Citeh being a threat, the Arabs will decide which box office name they want and Hughes will either have to accept or quit. It'll be fun watching the facre unfold mind. Portsmouth look like they're broke and there could be a serious exodus this Jan. Spurzzz will just be Spurzzz. Flattering to deceive, another infamous season of transition.

I expected Sunderland to maybe be contenders this year. Keane has brought in a better standard of player recently, and there seemed to be a more solid set-up there than at other clubs. But Keane looks like he is starting to get twitchy and I wouldn't be suprised if we see him out walking the dogs on SSN anytime soon.

Everton it is then, as our main rivals for 5th. Almost by default.

Top post. Loved the bit about Keane walking the dogs.. how many times that was played on SSN when he left the Ireland squad i'll never know.

You could argue that getting the gates they do in a 'not wealthy city' and under the shadow of one of the media faves reflects well on them (or badly on us.)

Similar sized clubs, no question. But Liverpool is a much smaller city than Brum. We only have a porn merchants rabble from the slums as supposed competition (if you can call a club that gets 17,000 for league games competition). They have the Redshite on their doorstep.

Everton would still be a good investment.

At least for a RL type investor, in it for the long haul rather than Hicks/ Gillette type charachters looking to maximise a 'franchise' yet know **** all about football. Or rich Arabs who get bored easily.

I don't want anyone to kiss arse cos I'm here.

I don't like Everton and I don't like you. Happy now?

Actually, that's a lie.. I quite like Everton purely for the fact they haven't bought a quickfix success like Chelsea and like Man City are trying to do. They built a solid squad over the years without spending a great deal of money.

Plus, they hate Liverpool as much as I do.

Everton would be a good investment for a club - for a football fan.

A solid club with good support, no debts and pushing for Champions League. I admit having Liverpool on your doorstep is a pain but people are talking as if Liverpool take all the fans in Liverpool. I think the red/blue divide in Liverpool is quite apparent.. it's not like the blues are huddled in a corner afraid to make a noise. You grow up in Liverpool supporting Everton or Liverpool. I think alot of Liverpool's larger fanbase actually comes from outside the city.

That's the thing though, you go anywhere across Europe and say your from Liverpool and they just assume you support Liverpool, when you tell them your an Everton fan they are like "Why you support them when you got Liverpool?". It happens right across England too, as soon as your from Liverpool - your a Liverpool fan thats what everyone seems to think..

That really doesn't happen though, most people assume that Liverpool fans come from London or Wales or Ireland or Norway. Seriously its as much of a running joke amongst football fans as it is for Man Utd fans

What they don't know is which Stadium in Liverpool makes traffic announcements for the two Tunnels ;)

Because Liverpool are marketed better in Europe and across the world.

It doesn't mean Liverpool have more fans than Everton in Liverpool though (I know they probably actually do but it's not the landslide some people seem to think)

It'd be the same for us. If someone came to you and said they were from St Petersburg you'd assume they supported Zenit. If they said they were from Prague you'd assume they supported Sparta Prague. In fact, in our build up to our match with Slavia Prague it's amazing how many people kept on calling them Sparta Prague.

You'd can't expect someone thousands of miles away to know about internal politics of a city they've never visited. They will only know what get's taught or makes the news over there.. and that isn't gonna be Everton.
