His header that hit the crossbar was actually going over until Friedel got a hand to it too

Sorry Bicks but no it wasn't

It was, Freidel completely changes the balls trajectory, where the ball went up slightly but dropped much quicker than it would have done if he hadn't touched it. In essence it doesn't matter, it didn't go in. Neither did his header that Carlos cleared either. Its all a bit like saying Gareth Barry should've had a hat trick against fulham

Fair enough. I did think that at first but after seeing it again on MOTD I think the ball was definitely headed downwards by Fellainin and Friedel tipped it upwards onto the bar. but as you said it doesn't matter.

Also, that header that Carlos cleared. The commentator said "Friedel was beaten" I really don't think he was. Watch it again and Friedel sees Cuellar there and leaves it for him. i think Friedel would have gotten to that quite comfortably had Cuellar not been there.

Its moot anyway. The fact that Cuellar was there ends it. Its organisation like that which gets worked on the training ground week in, week out. A man on the post saves an untold number of goals over the course of a season.

Sidwell didn't get a yellow for all his fouls, no? and Barry for all his back chat, no? I'd be pretty angry if Fellaini had got sent off and neither of them got a booking.

the ref was utterly inept

his idea of advantage was bizarre to say the least

his idea of what constituted a yellow card was daft with no consistency at all. There was no way luke Youngs card was a card, there were far far far worse fouls in that game and far far more cynical ones that went uncarded.

he refusal to even contemplate over ruling his assistants even though they were three times the distance away from the incidents than he was was bordering on the stupid. I think there was a succesion of three or four line calls that the wrong team got the throw / kick in a row and every time the ref was loser than the assistant and it was obvious the call was wrong

the ref got backchat from both sides because he was so inept and lacked any consistency in his decisions, he would call very similar incidents differently they never knew where they stood with him

simply a very bad ref, he also let the crowd make decisions for him at times

Yes, agreed. But for one thing. Luke Youngs booking was fair. He came from behind and weren't even close to the ball. The fact that there were worse offences made without earning the offender a card doesn't make that one not a card. Well, of course, in one way it does, but according to the rules that's a booking offence. What annoyed me was that in the 2nd half Osman, I think, made something similar and got away.

But yes, the ref was very inconsistent. He got one thing right, and that was when he didn't give Anichebe a penalty when Milner tackled him. Shoulder to shoulder and Milner were just the stronger of the two.

To be honest, I dont get all the Lescott calling. There is a thread on it in the Villa part of the site too. Yes, Lescott is a Brummie and yes, he grew up as a Villa fan. You pretty much have to give up your loyalties as a fan when you are a pro though. You have every right to celebrate a goal when you score in the Premier League, especially if its in a big game against your immediate rivals. Im sure Lescott still looks out for our results and im sure he wants us to do well as long as it doesnt affect his own team. I like Lescott, I think he is a great player.

(And yes, I admit my opinion might be different had the game ended 2-2..)

I think he derives far too much pleasure scoring against us, after his first goal his celebration was almost worthy of posting on Youporn, his second goal celebration was utterly ludicrous, why run towards the villa fans and do that? were there not enough everton fans to run towards? Its not like he got any stick from the villa fans at all, unlike Neville an a few other everton players

What's doing a Glaston? I don't plan on doing anything...:?

Glastonspur is (was?) a Spurs fan who frequented the boards like you do. But disappeared when the stick got too much and we wouldn't buy the fact that the likes of Dos Santos were God's gift to the Premier League. To be fair to him he really did take a lof of flak but 'doing a Glaston' is to be a rival fan and to disappear when the kitchen gets too hot :)

He brought the flak on himself though.

He literally couldn't admit ANY fault in that club. If Ramos had shot a baby in the face he'd have found some way to claim it was the best thing any club has ever done.

I think he just couldn't take being wrong on pretty much everything he said pre season.

Oh and another couple of things to note from yesterdays game

I noticed Everton still play their Smalltime Seat Bingo at Half time, that is so embarrassing.

Almost as shocking as playing that Celtic song "Grand old Team to Play for" as sung by Ken Dodds diddymen, that is decades out of time

And here's the other thing that occurred to me, their run out theme is the old Z Cars theme as we all know and all the Evertonians I know love it, have it as a ringtone etc etc But why?

It was a series about the police force but my comment isn't about that as such, its about where that series was based. It was set in Kirkby, which even back then was firmly in Everton territory but isn't that just a we bit ironic?

Seat Bingo to win Paddy Power's weight in beer? I'm sure some of you wouldn't mind that!? Noone gives a crap. The shooting thing is just a joke, as is our announcer (whos a red).

My understanding is that it was just one of those things which stuck.

Well, it evolved didnt it?

The club might have played it because of the TV show. The fans like it because it reminds them of Goodison Park. I doubt the TV show even comes into it any more.
