The draws gave him a base to build upon. He has had a strong end to the season with Fulham with a lot of wins in the past few weeks.

We're not allowed to judge managers on what happened in the past few weeks :|

Sarcasm doesn't work too well in the written word does it?

FWIW, I think Hughes is a boring bloke but he seems to know what he's doing and would be a very solid, if unspectacular, appointment for Villa.

It now seems fairly clear to me that we finished top 6 for 3 seasons in a row despite MON, not because of him.

Plenty of signs that had Houllier not fallen ill at the end of the season we were on course for a good challenge on the top 4 next season. As it is we'll probably have to start over again and have another sodding transitional season.

Think Rafa was looking for the Chelsea job by that interview.

I wouldnt mind Rafa but only if he had a director of footbal. Good tactician and motivator but has a shit record of buying players and one of main reasons he was successful at Valencia was he had no transfer power to buy shit

Then you need glasses.

Or have you joined the "its half term, and regardless of the facts, mon is a rat as he "walked out" (regarldess of the fact he's an emplyee, and you too are free to walk out) club".

if you omit the timing, which cant be helped as thats when it was clear there were irreconcilable differences, and stop thinking like a "let down fan" but view it maturely, then I dont think theres any argument that mon picked up a low club "remeber the Doug Ellis damage", and gave us top 6 finishes.

And surely this season has shown that with 18m to spend, the french clown did much worse with the same squad.

Perhaps not the fool you think, despite the emotion of feeling let down, which is totally irrelevent, unless you intend rewriting the facts.

Thats my main worry with the possible appointment of Rafa. He is piss poor in the transfer market and even Fergie alluded to this in a recent interview.

If we are ever going to challenge for the top four then we will need a manager who can identify players in the transfer window who are comfortable on the ball and have decent technical ability, not the type of players that our previous recent managers have purchased.

Those managers have been given money to spend and have largely wasted it. Thats why it is vitally important that we get the manager's situation sorted now one way or another so that players like Nzobia can be brought into Villa Park before they are snapped up by someone else.

Now i do like the look of this!:

Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner is contemplating replacing Gerard Houllier with former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The American billionaire sees Ancelotti as the perfect replacement considering his global reputation and history of success as a manager.

Ancelotti, who was only sacked by Chelsea last Sunday, has been inundated with job vacancies from Italy but is seriously considering staying in England.

He has fallen in love with the country following his two years in West London and has even mentioned the possibility of taking charge of the national team.

Villa Park sources say negotiations are at an early stage but both sides are interested in a deal.

The Italian is said to be unwilling to make a definite decision until the situation regarding his friend Houllier’s future is sorted out.

Lerner is aware of the Frenchman’s heart problems after Houllier was taken to hospital in April and had to miss the rest of the season.

Houllier is expected to be retained by the club in a director of football role, concentrating on finding potential signings and controlling the youth academy.

Ancelotti is not the only name being linked with position. David Moyes, Rafael Benitez and Ian Holloway have all had their names mentioned.

The mention of Ian Holloway at the bottom gives this article literally no credibility. No way would he be considered for Villa job, with some of the stuff he said. Bookies give Stan Collymore higher odds of being our next manager :D.

That is the worst line ever. "lerner is aware of the frenchman's heart problems". not exactly a big secret is it.

That really is excellent journalism. He's very astute that Lerner fella!

tottenham achieved it for one season, failed to make champions league this year and are now looking at a fire sale... the whole premier league system is buggered.... top four clubs simply cannot afford to be out of the champions league if they are to sustain the cost base it takes to get there...
