Let's just get Hughes in on a free.

It'd be a great signing for me.

Hughes is used to a similar project (break into top 4) as that was the project at Man City.

Why would Hughes come on a free? He is apparently in advanced talks with his club for a new contract anyway.

Apparently he has an exit clause in his contract allowing him to leave the club for nothing next month.

Not heard of it myself, I'd also imagine that is why he is in advanced talks for a new contract.

Houllier - DOF, Benitez - Manager, GMac - assistant or coach / whoever Rafa wants instead which will unfortunately mean GMac leaving. Im sure there is a role he can go in though somewhere.

Wouldnt mind gmac staying tbh.

this is what I wouldnt mind seeing, alot of players would come to our club as a result of these two big boys at the club

Which has little to do with any success he may have here, as Top 4 is beyond our reach now for the foreseeable.
Disagree. With the right manager we are geared for success, and that certainly includes competing for the top four.

I don't actually much like Hughes either (I don't appreciate the way he acts and handles himself) but I think he would be good for us for the position we find ourselves in now.
He is a winner, he does not like losing one jot. The reason why he comes across as arrogant and stubborn is partly due to his winning mentality, and that has been in him at every club he has been associated with. You certainly will not see Hughes fawning over his previous clubs at the match or in the media.

I don't agree, we are no closer now than we were when Randy arrived and it is unrealistic to think that any manager we could appoint would have us challenging for the top 4 in the next couple of years.

Challenging for the top four is possible. Achieving a top four finish? Yes, I agree it will take a lot to build a side capable to achieve that feat. It is not beyond the realms of possibility though and that is the attitude we will have to take in coming seasons.

I'm afraid I no longer think its a realistic proposition or ambition, we had a great opportunity but we didn't take it. The bar has been raised now by the wealth of Man City so its harder than ever before and I personally think its out of our reach.

I think it will take a very shrewd managerial appointment, a shit load of money, the fans to get behind the club so we sell out every week, more interest from sponsors and a bit of luck. Not asking for much am I?

I think, starting with a very shrewd appointment will be a good start.

I can see where you are coming from, although that realism is your opinion not a fact. We will have to agree to disagree Trenty.

I hope our future manager adopts my resolute attitude, rather than just accepting, what seems to be, uncontrollable fate.

Sometimes it seems as if he cares more about not losing than about winning. He's the draw specialist.

Spurs did it though, if you get the right players in and have them playing well it can still be done. Very hard yes, but it can be done.

A shrewd appointment in wax face. I urge our board to kickstart our club again by doing the same. It'll hopefully re-ignite and re-unite a split fanbase.

I think with a player like Bent, the top four is an achievable nut, but it’s got to be supported with consistency at the back.

Darren Bent in our squad in any of the previous three seasons and we finish 4th.

The draws gave him a base to build upon. He has had a strong end to the season with Fulham with a lot of wins in the past few weeks.

This. Its certainly tough but it should be remembered its only 12 months since we were still in the mix for 4th after 36 games and I am not sure the landscape has changed that much in that time.

Its obviously going to take the right managerial appointment though to give us any hope so lets hope we get it right this time.

Absolutely only my opinion, there is no such thing as a fact when talking about possibilities in the future.

I hope whatever manager we appoint now or in the future has lofty ambitions, I don't want them if not but to me at least I think a top 4 goal is unrealistic in the current climate.
