I wonder if one of his current motivators is getting back in the Ireland squad as they are playing in a major tournament for the first time in a long time? Not a bad thing, but you worry about any Villa player having a successful summer would be off in a flash!

I've never been the biggest fan of Ireland, I think he's too defensively weak to be an orthodox CM player and I think we have better wingers at the club. As an AM'er or forward I've no problem with him.

He's done quite well recently and I'm glad to see him starting to show some form. If I was to nit pick, he could have done better on QPR's first goal by being tighter to his man. Otherwise he had a good game.

I think even that's unfair. He got a foot in with an interception and was unlucky it went to one of theirs. It would have looked like good defensive pressure if Cisse hadn't been allowed the space he got.

He and Keane are by far the best 'footballers' we have and link well together - they see things the rest don't - unfortunately once Keane goes we may see him drop off in form again - whatever I seriously think he will be off in the Summer as he must be one of the highest earners that McEck has been told to shed.

He was playing well before Keane came in although I agree they do link well.

I think we can get rid of enough high earners without shedding Ireland...Heskey, Beye and Carlos will be leaving in the summer, that will be pretty much 6m off the wage bill. Hopefully Dunne, Collins and Warnock will all leave aswell so that will take it up to 10m.

Not sure which is more bizarre. That Bluenose scumbag Rogers getting a visa or the links to Ballack and Ireland.

RBNY News: Rodgers Gets Visa, Red Bulls Linked With Ballack and Ireland

By Zac Wassink, Yahoo! Contributor Network

Transfer deadline day has come and gone, but the New York Red Bulls are still wheeling and dealing. The club also got a bit of good news Wednesday morning, as a fan favorite will be making his way to their preseason camp sooner than thought.

Forward Luke Rodgers announced via his Facebook account on Wednesday morning that he has acquired a work visa and will be joining the Red Bulls, who are currently training in Mexico, later this week. Rodgers found himself in a few sticky legal situations before joining the Red Bulls last season, and those issues delayed his return to the club. With everything sorted out, there's no reason, barring an injury setback, that Rodgers shouldn't be fully fit and ready to play this coming March.

Rodgers was arguably the Red Bulls 2011 MVP. He was second in goals scored with nine (five behind New York captain Thierry Henry), which is impressive considering he only started in 20 games. Juan Agudelo started up front at the beginning of the season until he was eventually replaced by Rodgers. Rodgers then missed time during the "winless summer" of 2011 due to plantar fasciitis.

With Rodgers officially joining the Red Bulls camp, there remain plenty of questions regarding the team's attack. Captain Thierry Henry is currently enjoying a loan spell with former club Arsenal, but he is expected to return to the States at the end of February. New York acquired Portland Timbers front man Kenny Cooper on 2012 MLS SuperDraft day. The previously mentioned Agudelo, linked with moves to several clubs throughout January, remained with New York up until the close of the January transfer window. Second-year man Corey Hertzog, a striker who hardly played in 2011 but one highly thought of by many people in MLS, also remained with the club.

The Red Bulls have been very busy during the current MLS offseason. Defender Tim Ream completed a dream move to Premier League side Bolton Wanderers, but New York, preparing for Ream's departure, brought in three new defenders before the start of the preseason. The Red Bulls are also on the verge of adding veteran defender Wilman Conde. Reports are now linking the club with two different midfield players.

Steven Goff reported Tuesday evening that Red Bulls officials will be meeting with representatives for 35-year old Michael Ballack. The midfielder who is currently out of favor at Bayer Leverkusen was linked with the Red Bulls last spring, but nothing came of those rumors. According to Jack Bell of the NY Times, Ballack will only play in MLS if it's with the Red Bulls.

Ballack is currently slated to remain with Bayer Leverkusen until the summer transfer window. He has recently been slowed by injuries, but he could, if fully fit come mid-May, bolster New York's attack during the warm and fatiguing summer months. Ballack is also a name that could bring some new fans out to Red Bull Arena.

Ballack isn't the only player reportedly on New York's radar. The club are also reportedly interested in acquiring Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland. The 25-year old has, like Ballack, dealt with injuries as of late. While he's struggled after joining Villa in 2010, the playmaker recently told the English press that he's currently enjoying his football.

Enjoying his football or not, Ireland would be a costly acquisition, one far more expensive than Ballack. With that said, the Red Bulls have, after a little bit of a shaky start, quietly had a rather impressive offseason. In Soler we trust?

Let's not go too far just yet.

We need to start chanting Superman pretty soon.

Let's go for something a little like this - I used my music skills to come up with these lyrics....

Shisha Boy loves the Holte

Watch him pass it, watch him go

Watch him crank dat Shisha Pipe

Then Superman dat Holte

Now watch him move (crank dat Shisha pipe)

Now watch him move (crank dat Shisha Pipe)

Shisha Boy loves the Holte

Watch him shoot it, watch him score

Watch him shift it into feet,

Then Superman dat Holte

Now watch him move (crank dat Shisha pipe)...

Etc etc,.....
