I actually voted for this tory government. Now I can see why my relatives hated them so much when I was a kid when they was last in power. They really only care about the rich don't they. I'm never voting again The help to buy scheme would have been a brilliant idea IF they had implemented it in conjunction with the biggest housebuilding program since the end of ww2. As it stands.... its won't help the rich.... because mummy and daddy will chuck in a bigger deposit to get a lower repayment rate. The H2B scheme will help only those earning £35k p/a and above.... with squeaky clean credit records and **** all savings who aren't already on the property ladder. In short, virtually noone. Hasn't the H2B scheme already helped loads of people get on the ladder? A lad in the admin function in my office has used it to buy his first place and he's only on about £22k max I would guess, maybe less. House prices are on the way back up and that would have happened with or without the H2B scheme. A couple with 3 children and an income of around £15k a year will be handed nearly £8k of tax-payers money in the form of working and child tax credits and child benefit. So for doing the same job and even having the luxury of a partner at home who makes no contribution, the person with three children takes home 50% more than the childless person doing the same job. That's mortgage/rent/council tax/gas,water,electricity and food/cloths for 5 people. Not a lot really is it. Clearly the single person living solely off the 15k is way better off. Repeat: All the figures were supplied by the government's own calculator. Based upon 1 partner earning £15300, the other earning nothing, with three kids 3, 7 and 10. But this whole thing has been so poorly handled. I was listening to some govt apologist insisting we had to cull 60% of badgers, when asked how many that was he said he couldn't say, as we didn't know how many there were in total. My reasoning is more child-centric. It's not far on children to grow up in poverty. The amount of kids coming into school hungry and/or without proper uniform is crazy these days.
