I loved watching him last season (missed his 159n.o though), but he wasn't incredible for bears.

Still would have preferred him here though!

Yes one innings of note and nothing much else.

it's supposed to be a good pitch to bat on anyway, merely the conditions led SA to putting us in, so only being 4 down gives us a decent chance to now get a good score today. ( Sorry for the inevitable jinx ) . Still about 50/50 at the moment, we could do our occasional collapse to 260 or put ourselves in with a shout of 350-400.

The Midlands contribution - 0 and 0 for Moeen and Woakes, thanks lads

What a sporting black hole our region seems to be this christmas.

To not even get 300 would be a bit of a disaster given it's supposed to be great for batting today and tomorrow.

Bairstow gone now. Come on bowlers.

oh yes, woakes was bowling beautifully. Unlucky there.

2nd wicket for Moeen this morning so we're in a strong position now I think!

and a third - our test to lose this definitely now.

There's a TMS ashes video thing on the iPlayer with Root and Broad. It's excellent.

England cricketers Stuart Broad and Joe Root re-live their thrilling 2015 Ashes series victory over Australia, with the help of Test Match Special’s Pint-Sized Ashes.

Joe Root is just incredible

Yes theres a more solid luck about the England top order. Mind you no Phillander and Steyn injured they are left with two seamers plus a new spinner. The only question is whether England can bowl South Africa out second time around.
