It's just an expression like Right on! or Very PC of you! or more specifically with Stay Woke, keep being aware of injustice. The idea that it has a philosophy behind it, is as silly as there being a philosophy behind Don't let the bastards drag you down or Keep on keeping on! Or the hilarious idea that 'Black Lives Matter' is a 'Marxist organisation'.

Stevo985 Posted April 3 VT Supporter Share Posted April 3 The people moaning about other people being too easily offended, then being the most offended out of anyone about the most irrelevant thing is definitely the best part out of all of this

The concept itself isn't Marxist, but the official movement has some elements of it. Quote Noting Cullors’ declaration of being Marxist trained, "one has to take that seriously: if the leadership says it is Marxist, then there's a good chance they are," said Russell Berman, a professor at Stanford University and a senior fellow at its conservative Hoover Institution who has written critically about Marxism. It's the issue with the overall concept and the movement having the same name. The idea of dismissing the entire message as Marxist is ridiculous, I agree, and Millwall fans booing players taking the knee because they're anti-Marxist is hilarious.

That website you quoted has this as it's last paragraph (and conclusion) Quote Black Lives Matter "is not an organization, but a fluid movement; it doesn’t actually matter if one of its founders was a liberal, Marxist, socialist or capitalist." chrisp65
Yep, if anything BLM is anarcho syndicalism. But there’s never enough room on a Daily Mail headline for that.
mjmooney Posted April 3 VT Supporter Share Posted April 3 All those things may be true, but 'Black Lives Matter' is a saying, a truism. You could be a Tory or a Republican and sincerely say it, without in any way being 'Marxist' or undermining your political allegiance.

Or maybe if you’ve had the day off oppressing, who did you oppress so far this year? I’m being facetious of course, but grouping “all white men” as one group is a bit of a step. Most of our, yours and mine, ancestors were likely peasants, or farmers or factory workers, or servants, rather than slave traders and feudal lords. I kind of object to the notion that I’m part of a group that oppress other people. I completely accept that in Western Europe, the US, Australasia etc. white folk are the majority ethnic group and have inherent advantages because of that and because of a legacy of colonialism and so on. All that said. I might be up for a spot of freelance oppressing if there’s a vacancy amongst the elites. I wouldn’t come cheap though. I’d want a title, some swans, and the right to inbreed.

You are part of a group that has all the advantages, that advantage is very often the oppression. You can't help it, you as an individual can't do that much about it but it exists

All I’ve done is try to be not too much of a bell to anyone, whatever their background/ ethnicity/ culture / sexuality etc. I doubt I’ve fully succeeded in that lofty ambition, but I’ve tried.

You shouldn't feel guilty about societies view of you if you're actively working against the stereotype, which I'm sure you are sir.

I don’t feel any guilt...I’m also not actively working against anything really. There’s some things I (minorly) act for, but none of them are the current flavour of the month. They’re just stuff I kind of care about away from social media trends or news stories of the day.
lapal_fan
The new laws passed in Scotland feel a bit Wokey, don't they? Not sure I like the idea of being able to report someone saying something to someone else and me being able to have them arrested for it. Albeit, I'm not entirely clued up on the new laws (which is an absolute ignorance on my part), but it seems a bit Orwellian.

So full of holes, contradictions, inconsistencies and loopholes. Well meaning but amateurish.
