I don't mean to cast aspersions but I wonder to what extent this is being pushed by ultras who have infiltrated the Prosecutor's Office? I only say this because Zaniolo had some problems with certain ultra factions at Roma. I'm all for rooting out corruption, but the lines between ultra groups, clubs and authorities are blurry.

Naturally, I'm saying all of this after reading one book and a single blog post about ultras in the last twelve months. I'm obviously an expert now 😮

Just playing devil's advocate.

You’re now my go to expert on the subject!

If there is any term, it would be quite broad so that a variety of scenarios fall under the definition, most likely "gross misconduct"....so it wont necessarily have to specify betting, but could be satisfied if the specific activity is considered as either a subjective or objective basis to be gross misconduct. kind of like what happened at BP with their boss who had to stand down. I'm guessing the dispute now will be whether nicolo's actions constitute gross misconduct...we won't know at this point as he insists he has only played casino games rather than online betting......lets see what the clubs legal team come up with....

He's rolling the dice then - surely he must think he's either not guilty or there isn't sufficient evidence because the risk is massive. But then, wouldn't a compulsive gambler do that anyway?

Yeah I think there is a long way to go on this one yet. His name came up from the initial investigation into Fagoli, so it all depends on what they have found in those conversations and from searches of the phones. Is Zaniolo telling the truth? I hope so for his sake, but he wouldn't be the first person in the world to deny wrongdoing until they eventually get found guilty.

He seems to be doing his very best in p*ssing his career up a wall. Might be a reason why Roma let him go when a few years ago he was on of Europe's brightest young prospects. A signing coming straight from Monchi. Transfers should be best on statistics and coaching analytics, not because you are pals with them.

I agree, but there were some mitigating circumstances around this signing, namely that it's primarily a loan to cover Buendia's injury which came late in the window. Sometimes for a time-pressured loan going with someone you know can do a job is good enough; the problem comes (as we saw with Coutinho) when you decide to make an underperforming loanee a permanent signing.

It's on this basis that I'm hoping the compulsory purchase is going to be based on him playing close to 30 games. We wouldn't accept less than that for someone we were only getting in to cover Buendia, but if they did play all those games it suggests they're worth keeping.

Yeah, you'd hope we'd have given ourselves a chance to just not purchase him if he hasn't worked out by the time Buendia returns, and I'm optimistic that's the case.

He wasn't signed on loan to cover Buendia's injury.  The conversations with Gala and his agents started before Buendia was injured.  More importantly Buendia and Zaniolo play in completely different positions.  We've had to play him on the left because of the injuries to Buendia and Ramsey - but Zaniolo has played less than 10 matches on the left in his career.  He plays right or central.

Side note.... Very nice badge that, a shield... One for the New crest thread IMO!

Where they going to put the 5th star when they win again though? They'll have to completely redesign it 🤪

Can't see him playing for us again if even half the rumours are true about the evidence and the charges.

He will play for us until, either he gets suspended for betting, or is close to the compulsory purchase conditions.

It's not like he has done a Greenwood - betting offenses are generally not frowned upon by society, so will be less pressure to drop him. Look at Toney, he played right up until the decision and no one demanded he be dropped prior to it.

Also the proceedings will take a while so there is no chance of any formal decision before January. I fully expect him to play a reasonable amount of games before then.

He may not want too. And if his heads not in it we may not want him too either
