Slept on it and deadly serious. Might not pan out with the benefit of hindsight but this guy was truly believed to be the upgraded version of Totti not long ago. YouTube clips and a few matches is all I've actually watched over the years but I've never not been impressed.

Some of the things he's done in clips I'm not sure anyone in our squad could replicate. L Coutinho was better once but it'll take a good lump of fortune to get that player back. We are a very organised and structured and well oiled machine and you need to stick a maverick in those kind of teams to really throw the opposition off kilter and force mistakes.

He's the first signing I can remember where our social media feeds are flooded with fans saying "don't buy him we want to keep him" - this is about a guy they've had 6 months and he's spent some of that injured.

I'm probably getting ahead of myself yes but I'm having a great time as a Villa fan right now. For every day I get to continue loving the direction our club is going in, I'll leave cynicism and doubt and all that out of it and greet this with the optimism and excitement I think it deserves.

Ahh OK you've watched the YouTube clips, fair play.

This is the one that shows him at his best  dare i say it he has the phyaicality to thrive in the Bailey role   . The bloke is seriously talented. I have to ask why it is only us in for him though.

Did you find this video on a porn website? Some absolute in this from Zaniolo

Have to admit the jury is still out for me in this one, taking players on loan from the Turkish league who no one else seems to be chasing is not how I thought this transfer window would pan out. I really hope he is a huge success though.

The reason why he was in Turkey is well documented on this thread and in many other places.  If you are basing your opinion on him coming from the Turkish league I'd kindly ask you to look into the background in more depth and hopefully that will reassure some of your concerns.

At the risk of putting words in his mouth - I am pretty sure that @romavillan and myself will back you up in this assessment.  If I could pick any player at Roma to come and join Villa it would absolutely be Zaniolo.  If we can get him back to close to his best then he can absolutely reach the heights of being in the best Villa players of the last 25-30 years.  I think it will take a while (and there is a risk that it doesn't happen at all) but he's up there with the best young players I have ever seen coming through.  We need to be patient and not burden him with a massive level of expectation - but at the some time it is also true that everything about him suggested that he could be the key player for Italy for the next decade.  The injuries set him back but if we can get him back to close to that level then he'll be someone we will be talking about for years.

(I'm a big fan of Spinazzola too by the way - although it seems like 30 year old left backs aren't everyone's cup of tea - and I have made no secret that I'd be very happy to see Tammy back at Villa Park.)

Don't think he's anything like Totti in playing style anyway is he?

no, not at all really.

I just think the comparison was as in, a club talisman, best player, player who can be at the head of the spear to lead the club to glory, etc etc.

Certainly looks like a proper numbs off seats player that we haven’t had for a while. Consider me on the train!

Remember Italians are either defenders or know how to break down defences that are hard to break down. Is he starting on Sunday?

There are Totti-esque elements for sure in some of his passing, his ability to bring down and control the ball and probably most notably in his ability to finish chances somewhat unconventionally.  Zaniolo seems quicker and probably a bit more direct - which in some ways probably makes him a little more suited to the Premier League.  Totti was the reason for me adopting Roma when I moved to Italy and so in my eyes he's untouchable.

Yeah sorry mate.

He looks a good player but I'm quite concerned by his injury record. We're fixing an injury problem with someone with injury problems, it's strange but extremely apt for Aston Villa I feel.

I feel like the  Zaniolo signing has gone under the radar of rival PL fans, but he could end the season with a lot of attention from them.

Let's hope defenders let him go under the radar. No risk signing tbh, clever move loaning him, shows we have moved on with our football intelligence.

Him and Diaby will be our first choice up front, if they are fit. This guys a winner , he ain't come here to make the numbers up that's for sure.
