French publisher arrested in London on terrorism charge

Ernest Moret was stopped at St Pancras station to answer questions about taking part in French protests

A French publisher has been arrested on terror charges in London after being questioned by UK police about participating in anti-government protests in France.

Ernest Moret, 28, a foreign rights manager for Éditions la Fabrique, was approached by two plainclothes officers at St Pancras station on Monday evening after arriving by train from Paris to attend the London book fair.

What timing.

I'm confused, how are they arresting him in the UK on terrorism charges related to protesting in France, when he's come directly from France?

Bit weird isn't it?

He's here to visit a literary conference, looking to get left leaning material published abroad, according to an interviewee earlier on Radio 4.

I once protested being cut off by the bar in an Oktoberfest tent in upstate New York by breaking a wooden folding chair and convincing my friends to do the same.   Surprisingly, the protest didn't yield results.  It worked out in the long term, though, as we were escorted out by a nice large man and found another establishment more than willing to take our money.

As for my own participation, I’ve done fewer than I’d want as I’m far too idle in my idealism. However, I have been to a few with the teachers’ union and some pro-Palestine stuff.

I had a one boy strike in the 5th of school protesting against YTS. Then a few years ago I joined many other people from my town marching to save the hospital in the town. Neither worked.

I know the general public don’t consume as much politics/news as, say, people on here do, but I’m ever so slightly surprised that 1 in 4 people have never heard of Just Stop Oil.

But having said that, I’m not sure what I thought that number would be, maybe 10-15%.

My one crank opinion is that this lot might just be paid agents of the state employed to garner support for the UK govs draconian attempts to curb the right to protest tbh

When there's seemingly a direct funding link to one of the Getty kids there are certainly some pertinant questions that could be asked.

I'd never heard of them, and I've no idea what they stand for.

There's just been a Just Stop Oil spokesloon BBC News.

They are having a demonstration to coincide with the London Marathon (theyve promised not to disrupt it)

Thousands upon thousands of people will be f***ing running, not driving, why on earth do they think its an appropriate time and place to have a demonstration

Her comments were just nuts and I'm not convinced she used the words oil or petrol or anything else of that nature once

"What do you say to all the participants?
I didn't quite catch the exact wording but the answer was along the lines of "remember you are running past the houses of parliament where important decisions are made"

Interviewer asks about all the money being raised for charity at the event, again her answer was a bit mental, "we're fighting for a better future for everyone" (basically your charity is irrelevant)

Off her chump, not really trying to win anyone over to their side of the argument
