They need to replace the player fans that they inherited when they signed Messi. And they're clearly hoping he'll also still be worth more than they sign him for after he's done his military service (assuming he even had to do it). Became the most powerful person at the club. And now they are in a position where if the stories are true, they will pay him over 200 mill as a loyalty bonus and then lose him on a free the following summer.
