M_Afro
I just missed out on the Saunders era at Villa Park but nothing in my time supporting out great club comes remotely close to this last year. Unai is an absolute genius. He never takes a backward step. I love him to bits and would be thrilled if we could keep him long term. Amazing what he has done in his time here. Absolutely magnificent.

We just destroyed them. It’s one of the better results we have ever had in the PL. If Newcastle or Brighton (both clubs in a reasonably similar position to us) had destroyed the other 6-1, the media would be going on about five times as much as they have been about this game. Also, Emery pretty clearly outfoxed the much-lauded (justifiably) De Zerbi, yet hardly anyone seems to be mentioning it?

In fairness I chose to make my point about the amount of injuries we have had (without 40% of what would be considered our best starting 11 for pretty much the whole start to the season) and the 5 players we have brought in needing time to settle/gel with what Emery wants from them and with their new team mates, after our defeat in the week. I have always felt that the inconsistency in performance was due to the above and that given time it would come together. For what it's worth I am in no doubt there will still be ups and downs. That we will still go to tough away places like Newcastle, Liverpool and even Legia Warsaw and get beat. That we will at times look out of sorts. One year on though from being relegation fodder, still with some big players out, still trying to integrate new players, and just the fact that overall we are under a manager who has been here less than a year, who is still building his squad and implementing his system, I'm happy to ride out those highs and lows safe in the knowledge that given time days like yesterday when we do click will become more frequent under Emery. In fairness I'd expect everyone to feel the same under a manager that has presided over a remarkable 2 pts per game in his first 32 league games in charge. Mental absolutely mental I can't remember the last time I witnessed 18 wins in a single year. Probably when we were in the Championship, but there's a massive tax on that + more games.

It's Your Round
I’m up early this morning, I’m going to watch the full replay shortly. I bet Unai has already watched it twice and is now planning his next session for how we should have been even better.
Follyfoot Posted October 1, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted October 1, 2023 (edited) The Media seems to have been mainly meh about us. Quite glad to be honest, let them ignore Unai at their peril Edited October 1, 2023 by Follyfoot

Popular Post DCJonah
I liked what Mcginn said yesterday, about how Unai has educated our fan base. I don't remember ever having a manager who was able to change the whole atmosphere round the club.
Popular Post Pinebro
Yet people will have a meltdown next time we lose a game because of a high line. Listen. Yes it will happen. But to get to the next level we need to be prepared to be brave and take some calculated risks. Unai is prepared to do that and the good far outweighs the bad. I just wish more people would see that. Crowd was good yesterday but I didn't like how nervous the crowd looked at 3-1 and that it had to take a 4th goal for them to get rocking again. It's like there is still a portion of the fanbase who still doesn't trust the project or the style yet. Up the Unai. There is no manager we can get who is anywhere close to his level. We struck gold. They will feel the nervousness. We need to change the mentality and Emery is trying to do that but I can understand it's not gonna be done over night. We've had some real turd management over the years who have scarred the fanbase. Will take years to fix.

The only way to fix it is to keep winning football matches and fortunately we have someone in charge who seems to be quite adept at that task and long may it continue.
6065_Villa
Think he celebrated the goals like one of us, great to see. Said previously that we hadn't got it right for a full game before today but wow today wasn't far off. Apart from a 15 minute spell second half when they scored our game plan worked a treat.
Popular Post It's Your Round
The way he pushed Douglas-Luiz up behind Watkins and Diaby when Brighton had the ball in defence, was class. We left them with no way out and were able to press in midfield with so much intensity, Brighton had now way to counter it. Then the speed in which we could turn it into attacks, a few quick passes and we were through again. Such a joy to watch Emery’s football, it’s been a long time since we’ve had a clear style of play. But even better than that we have a top class coach who adapts our style for every team. He’s like nothing we’ve ever seen at Villa.

But it's probably Unai after that, unless somebody stupid goes for Howe instead. Unai has done the “traditional top 4” club. I’m not sure he’d go to one in an even bigger mess. He has a project here with people around him that has been built for him. I’m not worried.
