robby b
When SG won three of his first four games I felt positive and really happy with him as that is afterall an impressive start, but in hindsight I guess it was just the new manager bounce. Plus he didn't have to play Man Utd at home or Tottenham, his three wins were easier games than that. Ok, yes it's still early days but with wins at Villa Park v Man U (finally!!!) and then against Spurs, Unai's three wins from his first four games is even more impressive! I doubt that would have happened without a manager with so much experience, talent and sucess.
PieFacE Posted January 2, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted January 2, 2023 (edited) What I love about Emery ball is that even though the first half yesterday was incredibly dull, I didn't mind it at all. It was clear and obvious we had a plan to contain and frustrate and that's perfectly fine away from home against "better" opposition. Such a far cry away from the previous manager when no one could see what we were trying to do in the slightest. Long may it continue. Over the moon that we have Emery at the club. I thought the introduction of Cash to nullify Sessegnon, was top drawer.....This guy is truly a theoretician. Personally, I'm a massive fan of the 6-2-2. The way we are (tactically) shithousing these teams is an absolute joy to behold. We have been far too nice, far too tactically naieve and FAR too accommodating of other teams bullying us for too long. Long may this continue.
Popular Post Stevo71
I was sat six rows back from the dugout yesterday, thanks to a mate. It was as good to watch Unai orchestrating the game as it was the game itself. The guy is just magnificent. Conte was trying but off it yesterday; it was two top class managers duking it out, with our guy coming out clear as the elite coach. None of the celebrating with the bench when we scored was contrived, the guy was ecstatic! So were the subs it should be said - he has brought real togetherness to the squad very quickly. I was negative about the subs because I feared it would disrupt us and our cohesion. Within minutes it was obvious (to me, finally) that the disruption was all on Spurs. The players introduced knew their roles to a T. It was masterful use of subs, especially Cash. I still didn't relax because it's us and I am not used to this level of preparation, but my God did we see that game out expertly. It was a joy (though biting my tongue was sweet agony). This is going to be special I think. No ceiling I can see (yes I'm still giddy). UTV 33
Popular Post markavfc40
In my 40 odd years following us I can't think of us having anything like the upgrade in manager we have had going from an out of his depth, and winging it, Gerrard to an elite manager in Emery. The contrast for the players must be like the difference between night and day. No doubt he has been helped by having the 6 week break for the world cup but to have instilled a playing style so quickly, have each player knowing exactly what his role is and have us already looking accomplished in seeing out games, something we have lacked for years, is some going. Given what he has managed to change in under two months it is exciting to see what he can do with a few of his own additions and more time to implement his ideas. Exciting times.

burchy
Night and day compared to Gerrard ball where there was no game plan or tactics visible at all. I was sceptical about him when he joined but my scepticism has been replaced with optimism and anticipation good our next game.
LxYoungAVFC
The 6-2-2 to see out the game was a thing of beauty. Disgustingly frustrating for Tottenham and I loved it.
Demitri_C
What makes emery really interesting to me is he is first manager we have had in years that doesnt sorely focus on one player. He is focusing on making us dangerous as a unit not just relying on one player or moment of magic. Im really really excited about this appointment. Even if he gets a few bad results he is going to have my backing 100% He beat spurs at spurs without martinez cash and ramsey Edited January 3, 2023 by Demitri_C

Zatman
Interesting was looking at the Wiki of his old player Bacca. He was mainly a finisher but Emery trained him also to pretty much play like Ollie so you can tell what type of player he will want in his team Sorry couldnt copy and paste it

There was a period there during Gerrard where I was seriously contemplating not watching Villa altogether until he was sacked as there was 0 joy in watching us, only pain and boredom. Now I find myself googling Villa's fixture list out of sheer anticipation. I just want to watch us play again and it's beautiful. I thought I'd never see this feeling again at one point.

I like as well that he isnt afraid to make tough decisions like leaving cash and emi out yet he still pulls a comfortable win. This guys the real deal. Fans need to get behind him even when things dont go our way. He really could achieve greatness with the fans on side

Chindie Posted January 3, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted January 3, 2023 A few times against Spurs you could basically see us having a 9 man defensive line, and it was glorious.

It reminds me, of our days under Ron, not the same style, but similar mantra.....No big names, just a well oiled machine. I am really hooked in to what he's doing.
