we really need a bit of the Brighton bug....

When you look at some of the quality, or potential quality they have bought.....

Cucurella - 18m, Mitoma - 3m, Caicedo - 5m, Trossard - 16m, Bissouma - 17m, Mac Allister - 8m, Gross - 3m, Lamptey - 1m.

Hopefully we are half as intelligent in the next couple of windows.

Problem is most of our fans would have turned their noses up at most if not all of the players mentioned above before they established themselves at Brighton.

I think in a way we are doing a Brighton as we’ve picked up a load of very talented and very promising academy players already. The one thing I wish we’d do more of is explore markets that Brighton recruit from, your Argentinas, your Brazils, Asia, etc, etc as we’ve really struggled with this.

i get your point, but i dont think thats entirely true.

Brighton spent 71m on these 8 players, from 1m to 18m (Cucurella - 18m, Mitoma - 3m, Caicedo - 5m, Trossard - 16m, Bissouma - 17m, Mac Allister - 8m, Gross - 3m, Lamptey - 1m)

we spent 83m on 7 players as follows: Traore - 18m, Wesley - 22m, Nakamba - 12m, Trezeguet - 10m, El Ghazi - 9m, Engels - 8m, Jota - 4m.

i know which of those two lists i would prefer.....in hindsight, and its not like most of our signings listed above were "exciting signings".

Fair point but I don't recall many of our fans getting excited about most of the players on that list we purchased either.  However comparing quality of both sets it's clear who comes out on top!

Brighton and Brentford buy players for a system and coach them accordingly that's why they look great at those clubs but struggle sometimes out of it.

I think now we have a proper coach we will see thar difference in our players and signings.

What about this list for 87m? (Locadia - 17m, Jahanbakhsh - 19m, Bernardo - 10, Montoya - 7m , Izquierdo - 14.5 ,Pröpper - 8m , Matthew Ryan  - 6m, Karbownik - 5.5m)

Like most clubs, Brighton have scouted and bought some good players, they have also bought a load of crap as well.

while i see your point, im not sure how anyone can look at Brightons transfers over the last few years, and on balance not admit they have done an extremely good job overall finding talent at reasonable prices.

every club makes mistakes in the transfer market, but for me Brightons transfer policy "overall", is one of the most intelligent in the league.

im not claiming Villa havent signed some good players at reasonable prices, im just pointing out how impressive Brightons overall recruitment has been over recent years.

While we are on the topic of Brighton, I would test their resolve to see if Lamptey is available.

Also, Ghana has some seriously good young talent in their WC squad:

  • Mohammed Salisu (23)
  • Mohammed Kudus (22)
  • Kamaldeen Sulemana (20)

If Southampton get relegated, Salisu will probably be sold.  A left footed, tall, pacy CB

Tariq Lamptey? Who has missed 36 games to various injuries in the last 18 months?

Wouldn't be worth half of what he'd cost us.

If Southampton go down I’d look at Livramento as RB cover and send KKH out on loan again.

Frimpong’s doing well in Germany as well. Vanderson at Monaco looks good too.

For LB can we try for Alex Balde at Barca please

Joseph Paintsil is an interesting player although he's not in the WC squad for some reason.

Say what you like about Zaha but he's better than anything we have here. He's a superb player and I think he'd thrive up front in our system.

Wages etc. would be an issue.

He has Crystal Palace in his blood....Man U couldn't get a tune out of him, which doesn't say much, I know.

Probably, one of the most significant posts written on here, despite its brevity.

well said.

can you imagine Ivan Toney, coming from Peterborough for 8 mill?
