For all the super league/locked in big 6 tall which has a lot of merit of course, I just don't remember these sort of results happening in the 90's or 2000's or I might not have been paying attention

They did, Man. United lost to Southampton 6-3 in one of the seasons they won the title. You also had teams winning the league with 75-80 points in those days and some would get relegated on 40 points so it was more competitive back then.

I do think in last few years the endless TV money has started filtering through to mid table teams so middle of premier league has never looked stronger in terms of first 11s, I mean ours is pretty decent if we actually had a competent manager.

Plus you always get these results at start of season anyway.

Not sure this has ever been discussed on here tbf

Just waiting for someone to chime in that he's a Blues fan.

Followed by someone else pointing out that he says he used to watch both etc.

lol

Fair to Leeds & Brighton.

Both have recruited well and appear to have managers with a clear plan of how they want their sides to play & are not scared to have a go when playing so called 'bigger' teams.

Hard to look at that wistfully from a distance.

Doesn’t this piss you off though? Leeds 2nd. Great 3-0 win. Fans Singing away to Kaiser Chiefs like they’ve never felt happier. Why can’t we have that? Why do we keep appointing shit managers who buy shit players and why can’t we ever have a moment like this?

We had it first half of 20/21. Just didnt get to be there to enjoy it. Imagine the scenes and atmosphere for the 7-2 or at the Emirates 😔

That was our momentum and good times, shame it was all behind closed doors. Well and truly reverted back to type now

We haven't had any performances like that since the time football was behind closed doors. Very few signs we are on the verge of anything like that again any time soon.

Winning at Old Trafford was amazing last season. In true Villa fashion we then lost our next five and sacked our most popular manager in over a decade.

Although we had the better chances that day it was far from a dominant performance like the Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs victories from the season before.

It was still beating Man. United at Old Trafford. Considering our history v them over last 30 years it was a very memorable day and probably the best ending to a game involving us in recent times with the Fernandes penalty.

The last hurrah for Smith.
