Emi could really benefit from that. yeah i agree with that, if Buendia could improve his ball retention when initially receiving the ball, he would be a different player. DJBOB Posted March 21, 2023 Share Posted March 21, 2023 IMO - this highlights my biggest issue with Buendia. Grealish used to do the same thing though he has the dribbling to get out of it. Buendia loses a few duels early on and then to make up for it, he starts going to the ball instead of holding position in space. Think he had a talking to in the second half as he noticeably lost the ball less and as a consequence wasn’t popping up everywhere. He didn’t get picked last night either, but I believe only players who played in the WC or qualifying got picked for these friendlies. The objective was a home celebration of the WC win. Emi and a couple of others were added to the squad for training and looking to the future but not expected to play - but he’s expected to be in the mix when their qualifying kicks off next international break. In a top 7 team - he’d be getting mom every game and almost certainly playing himself into a champions league side. The guy is class and I am more than happy to have him in a Villa shirt.
