Thought there were two

I always thought that with a name like Mwila, Freddie was destined to play for the Villa. In fact this was his only game (against Blackpool 0-0), Emment Kapengwe played 3 games for us.

I was just wondering what exactly is the criteria (terrible word for this topic, but please forgive my limited vocabulary) here? Does a player like Ulises de la Cruz count or is it players who are purely of African descent? Nobby Solano too? They're both South Americans but with the history of the Americas, it's quite possible they possess some African blood also.

1901. Willie Clarke, first Black player for Villa and also the first non-white player to score a goal in a football league match.

We all knew Black players are proudly synonymous with our glorious club but this is just an incredible story.

Willie Clarke

Got quite a decent Wikipedia page too.

Surprised more hasn't been made of this during black history month.

What a ludicrous statement.

1) It's not racist to talk about black people. Its racist to imply they are inferior or show bias against them because of their colour.

2) It's black history month and I'm trying to track the history of black players for Villa.

So sick of this attitude that merely mentioning colour is racist.  In fact so sick of general false accusations of racism.

Our facebook fan pages are another level of cringe on this.

Sad to see we proper have Villa fans who seriously get wound up by black related Villa news.

Slightly off topic but the Magnificent Brazil 1970 is how a multicultural society should be represented.

Aston Villa have a proud multicultural history and long may it continue

Jordan Ayew and Rudy Gestede celebrating Eid with locals in Aston.

Probably the strongest link between the club and immediate locality in many years.

Great French teams too. To be fair the England teams is very multicultural as well.

edit:  took Germany a while but the team is a good representation of the country now.

Its also to do with the history of the country, England, France, Belgium, Portugal and Netherlands all had colonies up to about 80 years ago compared to Germany. Germany and the Scandinavian countries is through migration mainly from the last 40 or 50 years

Ah Carlton Palmer and the kind of photo they used to use for the spot the ball competitions, to guarantee nobody ever won the cash!

Boring aside: Spot the ball was never actually where the ball was because it’s illegal to gamble on an event that has already happened. There was a panel of people who would decide where they thought it was...then it was closest to that!

That’s true but one of the big differences are South Asians don’t make it as footballers otherwise our national team would be even more representative of past colonialism.  Like the cricket team is.

But that’s a different topic altogether.
