its all about that experience....of being in the stand for a CL final, who else can claim they have that?

seriously though he should be calling up a midfielder from the U21s and having a good look at them, JJ obviously injured so id expect it to be elliot the guy who cant get a start for liverpool

its madness if none of them can get a sniff in a friendly vs scotland, he has to have a fresh face in there

Surely Ward-Prowse will be back in the squad ahead of Phillips? He hasn't been called up in a while and started very well at West Ham.

but why?

I think southgate has looked at him a few times now and decided he's not of the required quality, there's a growing list of people now that southgate took to tournaments or looked at just before tournaments and then decided that he didnt like them for whatever reason, doesn't make sense to take another look at them almost regardless of club form

It's not like there's nobody else to pick, even to see how they handle the experience. Fit and playing CB's off the top of my head include Tomori, White, Dunk, our own Ezri, Guehi, Chalobah, and Colwill have got to deserve it more than Maguire currently.

Even Kilman at Wolves should be ahead of him.

However would we deal with such dangerous strikers like Lyndon Dykes and Che Adams without experience like Maguire in there holding things together. Novices like Tomori and Konsa could never.

Mings with one leg would be a better option

and even then they're a step up from the post man who played for Malta in the last game

this experience thing is a complete load of bollocks, its a bigger safety blanket than his tactics

Don't think he rates Tomori. Or more likely Serie A as pretty sure he just dismissed it last year when Tomori played in CL SF by saying premier league was way higher week in week out.

Based on last six months Kons should be considered but he's been overlooked before when in really good form (20-21).

White apparently fell out with someone at the World Cup so not sure if that issue still lingers.

Safe option just to call up Dunk and Colwill as there you have someone experienced and who's improved his all round game under Potter and De Zerbi and Colwill has started regularly for Chelsea so far.

Don't disagree with any of the above, but to me it seems there's plenty who should be getting a look in for an international friendly.

Maguire being picked is a combination of bias and belligerence now. He has no future at utd and was behind Luke Shaw for a CB slot.
