Super en-ee-ess

I've heard that one before. Thought that one was more of an Americanism.

The ones I thought were common to the UK were "SNES" and "Super Nintendo"

They'd have to do it with pretty much all of the n64 virtual console line up but when the snes one sells like hot cakes it will almost be inevitable, it'll have OoT on it and probably sell like hot cakes too

Yeah so many great games. I would imagine along with Zelda you would gave Mario 64, Mario kart, Mario party 1, banjo kazoo is, perfect dark and star fox. Wow so many great games on that console and I haven't even mentioned goldeneye !

They should be able to take Diddy Kong Racing, I think. As the reason Rare couldn't take it to Rare Replay were chracter rights. A version of DKR was released on the DS not so long ago either. Think a few character were swapped out and the 'R' logos removed

I still possess, and play on a fairly regular basis, my N64.

However, they just don't work very well on a modern TV. The colour is dreadful, I guess just as a result of TVs evolving and the N64 not being totally compatible.

So a version that actually displays properly would be a big draw for me. It would depend on the games though. I suspect some of the games I'd really, really want may not be included, like Mario Party or WWF No Mercy.

The Rare games? Microsoft bought Rare and took the rights to the characters they made with them. Hence Killer Instinct, Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect Dark being Xbox games now.

The not being many N64 games on Virtual Console? Because Nintendo. They're more difficult to port, including awkward controls, many look bad, and Nintendo protect their bank catalogue like they're made out of diamond encrusted dust.

I love my N64 too, I agree about the TV part of your post, its looks a lot worse on the tvs these days. Shame you can't have a feature thats more designed to retro gaming like the old tvs.

I didnt know that they brought them out. Ninentdo should have done this as they made some excellent games for that console

Some of the games are unplayable on a new TV.

The snow/beach tracks on Mario Kart, for example are either incredibly difficult or basically impossible, as the contrast between the white track and the slightly less white "non-track" is non existent.

Makes for some funny races, but isn't ideal!

Body Harvest was an amazing game. I'd completely forgotten that was Rockstar!

I remember being furious because I thought I'd completed the game, and then later found out unless you played it on hard you only got access to half the game (or something)!

Nintendo owned 49% of the Rare stock. When it became kind've obvious that Rare were looking for someone to buy the company wholesale, Microsoft jumped in and bought up the rest, leaving Nintendo with no real option but to sell their share. Even Rare's founders aren't sure why Nintendo didn't buy them, given how well they'd worked together the past.

I've always had a soft spot for Rare, what with them being a local company. Seeing them reduced to making crappy Kinect games makes me sad.

Seems like everyone is at it

Atari Box coming soon(ish)

6517dc55-7833-4007-a611-006d3efc6fa9.jpe

Our objective is to create a new product that stays true to our heritage while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari.

Inspired by classic Atari design elements (such as the iconic use of wood, ribbed lines, and raised back); we are creating a smooth design, with ribs that flow seamlessly all around the body of the product, a front panel that can be either wood or glass, a front facing logo, indicator lights that glow through the material, and an array of new ports (HDMI, 4xUSB, SD). We intend to release two editions: a wood edition, and a black/red edition.

It's hard to see how they can possibly succeed.  They can't go head 2 head with Sony and Microsoft.  Do you go in underneath them as a 2nd tier console?  Almost like how the Wii was used?  I dunno.  It's interesting, but I think ultimately doomed to failure.

I'd chuck money on it being a mini Steam machine. They aren't going to succeed with a pure retro console and they aren't going to release a completely unique machine.
