All this snake rubbish makes me laugh. If we had 11 players with the ability and application of Delph we'd be consistently top half in the Prem.

Funny how Benteke, the man who admitted on arrival that we were a stepping stone, is still so revered, yet Delph is compared to Gabby and Hodge!

Delph has been my favourite player of these last six years, because he's the epitomy of what you should want from a player. Battled through horrendous injuries, never stopped trying to improve himself, proved SO many fans wrong by overcoming his problems and, through sheer determination, made himself an England international.

Yes, he said he was staying, and then he changed his mind. It was embarrassing, and annoying at the time, but big deal, get over it. At least he was conflicted by the decision! Most players would have been out of VP without a second thought.

I'd LOVE IT if Fabian Delph came back. Too good for us atm though, I'm afraid.

I remember once holding Delph responsible for costing us a goal against Man City , and trust me , I got slaughtered for it such was the esteem in which he was held , the man was beyond criticism .

The fickle . What a breed they are .

So basically, a player can treat the club like a piece of shit. Dupe the supporters purely to suit his own ego as captain fantastic and you'd all welcome him back on the basis that if his isn't injured he would improve our midfield, which isn't difficult, next door's cat could do that. I genuinely don't understand, after the reception he's had, the images he posted of the 'snake on the plane', with his smug face. The fact that we stuck by him through his serious injuries, played horrendous for us for ages, turned him into an international and he **** us all over at the first slight opportunity, knowing he was going to a club who had no real interest in improving his career but just needed a homegrown player.

Everyone is absolutely entitled to what they feel can improve Aston Villa but it's about morals for me. The guy is a weasel of the highest order. It would never happen. He'll end up at a club like Watford, which is about his level (unfortunately higher than ours) but i would be very, very saddened to see him in a Villa shirt again. My opinion of course, but man, it would be depressing as **** as a proud supporter.

Totally agree 100%.

I guess it's all about perception. Treated us like shit?....erm....ok!

His own drive and determination turned him into an England international, not Aston Villa.

"Posting the images?"  I seem to recall 1 image, posted by Raheem Sterling! Bet you still think Westwood had only 3 touches! :D

We had to "stick by him," as you say. It's called a contract.

And finally..."it's about morals?"....he had a change of heart. Maybe after realising Lerner was gonna cash in on the only other quality player we had. Should he have show the same lack of ambition as Lerner, so nobler would call him a Villa legend? :)

No club is responsible for improving players then? The facilities, coaching is 100% down to a player's determination and nothing else. okay.

" We had to "stick by him," as you say. It's called a contract. "
So apparently if a player is contracted you have to stick by him, even if he's under performing and persist in playing him every week. Oh right, that's a new one.

As I said, i have no problem with what people will expect from a player to see Aston Villa achieve. I've said that I believe how he acted stinks and it depresses me. I never said you can't think the way you do about Delph. It's a difference in how we feel about the way we see our club and its players.

Aston Villa are THE greatest club in all sports of every country in the world to me....but I  also believe Delph contributed a lot for our great club. A proper leader.

I never felt Delph was as bad as people made out in his post-injury days. At least he always tried, and he became a leader by example on the pitch....we sure missed that when he left!

We will agree to disagree.

Anyways Delph isn't happening as mails reporting so let's get off the snake subject.  There is a thread for him in off topic.

I think bruce should be aiming for a decent rb to be honest. Very important area that I feel urgently needs addressing.

Staunton>Amavi +any other left back we have had since he left. FACT

At the risk of going off topic, I would say give Amavi a chance. I reckon he will be better, I think he is technically and athletically better than Staunton now, he crosses a bit better and has a broader game. Debatable about his defensive game just yet as he has played with rubbish around him, a few shaky games early but much better now.

Not a fan of Lansbury.

Hourihane looks a good player.

Glad we are not pursuing Delph. I think he is vastly overrated.

Look at it this way. Lansbury won't be a statue and won't shy away. That alone is a big difference for our midfield.

How about this guy?

Morgan Sanson. 22 yo. Former France U19 and U21 midfielder. Valued at 4.25m pound. Contracted to Montpellier until June 2018.

Cue obligatory youtube video complete with irritating backtrack...

OK. Not a goalscorer, with only 3 in 19 this season, and 7 assists. Plusses for this guy is he doesnt have the body of a 12 year old boy, so he is quite effective defensively. Constantly moving. Excellent passing. Also seems quite adept with interceptions, so he can read play.

He is not Jordan Veretout. Sanson seems to be the type who goes looking for work.

Worth considering?

I actually feel confident that we will get two midfielders in, which is exactly what we need. Love the fact we actually have a board that is able to identify weaknesses and action a plan to address the problem, long may it continue.

On the subject of Delph, it's like that ex girlfriend who was amazing in bed but ran off on a romantic holiday the day after you get engaged...only for her to crawl back when it doesn't work out. We all know how that one plays out.

I think all 3 would be a huge improvement on the current midfield so on that basis I'd like them all.

Like the look of hourihane myself, but would like him with a workhorse alongside him! Who though, I'm not sure.

Delphi is vastly overrated? Have a word with yourself. He would dominate this division and walk into our midfield with a broken leg.

I don't want him back because of obvious reasons but you can't dispute the difference he would make.

anyway :offtopic:

I actually think our midfield is underrated but is missing a quality playmaker/attacking midfielder.

As for a partner for Hourihane, it's a suggestion from left field but I would consider Mark Milligan. Has played alongside Jedinak with the Socceroos and I have always rated him at least as highly as Jedinak but with more quality on the ball. He is esssentially a CDM but can play more attacking and can also fill in at CB. I was going to bring him up in pre season but wasn't certain about him. He is looking for a new club at the moment and is someone worth considering.
