Judging by the responses so far, the average reaction is that it's Westwood's fault that we know nothing about him.

jimcohen
Seems to have followed a few mangers around before, Moyes and McLaren, both of whom have been highly regarded as coaches but limited results as managers, bar Everton for Moyes of course. Never been a TD before, always just a coach. Interesting choice.

hippo
Underwhelmed TBH. But then again we don't fully know his remit. Its a wait and see. Big test will come when he inputs to the next managerial appointment. We hill go for someone he gets along with ? - or the best manager for the job. jimcohen
agreed, hopefully that doesn't happen for a while as we win so much RDM stays for a long time! he has CL experience after all!
sharkyvilla
Didn't Garde turn him down as assistant manager last season? Now he's technical director (I'm not really sure what they do), it seems quite a big leap but good luck to him.

Jas10
I trust in Dr T to have made the right appointment but I thought we were in for the (ex?) Spurs TD?
Popular Post TrentVilla Posted September 1, 2016 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted September 1, 2016 I can't deny that at first when I heard the name Steve Round I was rather disappointed, I'd hoped and in fact expected it to be someone with a bigger reputation. I was expecting more of an international name and someone who would have an impact or input into the Dr's plan's for oversea's clubs. But what I think this appointment tells us is that this role is primarily focused on Villa, not the wider project of the development of the business. I actually think that is reassuring or should be to us all. Not only does it suggest plans for longer term planning, something almost alien to Villa in the last 10 years, it also recognises and addresses a long standing issue at the club. A lack of football knowledge above the managerial position. While Wyness is a experienced boardroom operator in football and Little is an excellent adviser we needed something else. There is a danger Round is seen as being 'old school' due to his association with Moyes but I think that is unfair, he has long been very well regarded as a coach. He also has a lot more experience in the more modern scientific analysis of the game than most perhaps are aware. Add to that the fact Man City were his last employers prior to coming here and it says something about what he has to offer. I've really warmed to the appointment, I think he is a smart choice and I think its an added bonus that he already has a working relationship with Keith Wyness from their days at Everton. So all in all I think its a shrewd addition and a much needed one and a really positive sign of the wider picture of improvement at the club which is perhaps over looked because of the more striking financial outlay of the transfer window. Welcome to the Villa Steve, help make us great again and we'll love you forever.
