More clickbait from that bastion of the remain biased media, the BBC, obviously no truth in it at all

Brexit: Email slip-up reveals no-deal fishing patrol 'uncertainty'

There is "a lot of uncertainty" about the UK's capacity to patrol fishing waters after a no-deal Brexit, a government memo mistakenly emailed to the BBC has revealed.

The memo, from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, says there are just 12 ships "to monitor a space three times the size of the surface area of the UK".

Meanwhile Michael Gove has said there will be a government support fund to help British businesses in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

How would Brexit affect fishing waters?
Why is everyone talking about fishing?
What is a no-deal Brexit?
The UK is due to leave the EU on 31 October. A "divorce" deal - which sets out how the UK leaves - has not been agreed and Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pledged to leave whether one is reached or not.

In the event of leaving without a deal, the UK would become an independent coastal state and leave the Common Fisheries Policy, which states the EU's shared rules about how much fish countries can catch and where.

But ministers said they are confident security will be enforced after Brexit.

'Not an overly strong footing'
Defra's internal email mentioned a number of media stories, including one being worked on by a freelance journalist for the Independent.

According to the memo, the story planned to look at the preparation being made to deter EU fishermen from UK waters in the case of a no-deal Brexit, and also whether the UK will enforce the exclusion of foreign vessels.

The note reads: "While our public position on this wider issue is already clear and widely communicated, in that post-Brexit we will be an independent coastal state with control of our waters, both policy and MoD have indicated we are not on an overly strong footing to get ahead of the potential claims that could arise from this story.

"At this stage, there is a lot of uncertainty about the sufficiency of enforcement in a no-deal because we have 12 vessels that need to monitor a space three times the size of the surface area of the UK."

All this money to be spent in the event of no deal, is Boris still saying we'll be better off and have a load of extra money for the NHS?

What is this stupid national obsession with fishing? Is it because we're an island? Anyone (/ Brexiteer may mistakenly) have thought that fishing is a big, economy saving industry. Something that could tilt a no deal Brexit in our favour.

"Don't worry about all the financial institutions and large conglomerate businesses leaving the UK, because we've got fish."

Don't get me wrong, I love fish and I want British fishing interests to be protected.

Is it something worth leaving the EU over?

The answer is no. Currently fishing equates for a zero point percentage of GDP, a best case scenario after leaving the EU is that fishing equates to a zero point percentage of GDP.

But yaaaarrr, British fish for British people!

Apologies for the irrelevant rant.

Journalists at The Economist sometimes write about something called 'the Scarry rule' (named after American illustrator of children's books Richard Scarry) which holds that politicians find it particularly difficult to inconvenience people holding jobs that regularly appear in said children's books (ie, farmers, doctors, firefighters and fishermen, among others). I don't know that I buy it, but who knows, maybe there's something to it.

Boris Johnson’s controversial enforcer, Dominic Cummings, an architect of Brexit and a fierce critic of Brussels, is co-owner of a farm that has received €250,000 (£235,000) in EU farming subsidies, the Observer can reveal.

What a hypocrite.

I haven't agreed with you on a number of things but on this I think we broadly see eye to eye.

Hard to know what she's actually trying to achieve by saying this. It's really bizarre. Her general implication that all men are incapable of compromise is insulting. It's interesting that the women she's named are all of the remain persuasion, not a lot of room for compromise in her fantasy cabinet when everyone is already in pretty much the same place.

I can't imagine any male politician in this day and age coming out and saying we should turf out all women from the cabinet. They'd rightly be crucified in the twittersphere, called names like misogynist, pig, dinosaur.

What she said is clearly sexist and offensive, I don't see it as racist though. She's not named any minorities to be in her fantasy cabinet, but she hasn't openly said they're unfit to be there in same way she has with men.

Third wave feminism + maximum woke = Caroline Lucas.

She’s up there with Lammy in the ‘spouting errant nonsense’ championships.

Bigotry is extremely common among these types and they really have no shame, civil discourse virtually impossible.

McDonnell particularly impressed me the other day with his idea of inventing a law to jail Conservatives.

Presumably that’ll be expanded as further groups in society are accused of wrong-think & proscribed.
