Edit - although presumably as the vote not to punish Paterson took place yesterday under the whip and is now done, he still won't face any further punishment for his corruption. So the whole thing was just to make sure he got off when he otherwise wouldn't have.

How many hours is it since the vote? Surely a record even for this lot.

I think Kwasi Kwarteng should consider his position. Look, I'm not brave enough to say he should resign, all I'm saying is that he should consider his position.

I've been pondering what else he could possibly be thinking anyone else might believe he was trying to say by "consider" her position.

I think he should consider the lily. Aaaahhhhh.

I'd throw in Scottish independence into that mix - everything the Tories do now only fuels the likelihood - if Scotland go, where does that leave the flag shaggers? For a start they'd have to remove the blue bits of their beloved flag - major trauma ahead!

I'll wager that NI goes before Scotland. There is actually a process for unification enshrined in the GFA. Scotland, the government can just ignore anything the Scottish Govt say

The process in NI does involve ambiguity on behalf of the Govt but at least the process is there and it won't be much longer before its arguable that the process should be triggered

Why whip them like that then u-turn within 24 hours? Totally bizarre,

It's just a guess, but my hunch is that the speaker may have thrown his weight around in the background.

(would be the first adequate thing he's done since he started if that is it mind you)

Can't imagine why?

Though the Times is making out the backbench Tories decided it was bad, and the Telegraph and Express didn't bother putting anything on the front page. Mail bit though.

But it was obvious that this would be the reaction, surely?

We're usually levelling up, now that Joo hater Jez pasting is old hat.

Tory Brexit read the Mail. That'll be the eyebrow raiser at blue HQ.

They've gotten away with everything else, why not chance your arm with this as well?

When you're a Tory PM and even the Daily Heil is using words/phrases like "Sleaze", "Demean Deomcracy" and "Moral Bankrupcy" I don't think they had any choice but to about face.

Johnson has a direct line to the editors of some of these papers and if they're willing to put things like that in print you can only imagine what's being said on this behind the scenes.
