See the Sunday Express are claiming terrorists are coming over on a boat. What a surprise, Disgusting Tory rag provides scare story to help Rishi.

If these people were illegal they’d be in prison wouldn’t they? And there’s the deterrent the government are desperate for.

The fact they are in fully funded hotels suggests they aren’t in fact illegal.

Same if there there is evidence they are terrorists, they’d be locked up immediately.

Scum in government and scum in the media.

Technically it is a misnomer to call an asylum claimant illegal. They only become illegal if their claim is denied and then abscond. It’s an important point. The word illegal though is very emotive, and is used primarily to smear all asylum seekers with the same brush.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has not ruled out cutting income tax in Wednesday's Autumn Statement, as he insisted economic growth was his priority.

Mr Hunt is finalising his statement, which will set out government spending plans.

The chancellor is known to be considering reducing taxes on income, inheritance and businesses.

But he told the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg his speech would focus on removing barriers to growth.

This will be bold if he does it

He pretty much said that it wasn’t going to happen on LK's programme.

That story is based on him refusing to announce any of the budget measures he’s going to announce to parliament. (Which is unusually for this government the correct approach)

Maybe he’ll cut income tax by about 5p per person but then slash inheritance tax by millions for his friends.

Thing is, if they were desperate and wanted to buy the election, reducing income tax is the way to go.

It's probably too late for them to do anything at all in reality but doing that instead of banging on about Rwanda and small boats is going to do them a lot more good with the general population.

Shirley putting money in people’s pockets would need to be countered with an anti inflationary interest rate rise?

Best we just take the burden of inheritance tax off the wealthy and bask in the trickle down. Go on, bask in it, no, its not piss.

He might cut income tax a bit because of the latest inflation figures but he will focus on business taxes plus inheritance tax more plus welfare cuts. Fact is there are paying 100 billion a year on interest alone on the debt.

As someone who has always been an advocate for those of us who can afford to paying more taxes to fund better public services and to give those in need/with the least a leg up and provide us all with a decent safety net I find it quite remarkable what they have done in fairness. We have the highest post war tax burden and at the same time they have decimated our public services and made our welfare state one of the least generous in Europe.

This is what happens when dogma becomes policy, prejudice becomes mantra, and sensible heads are purged from a political party.

My suspicion is he’ll cut income tax by a tiny amount just so they can say they did it, but then do a bigger cut on some things for the wealthy.

He's overlooked the fatal flaw in his cunning plan.

People on benefits still have a vote.

You'd think they'd have clamped down on that one by now.

I have a suspicion that people on benefits vote less regularly than those not. Nothing to back that up, but just my gut feeling.
