Zatman
Its been going on for a while but tonight was the tip of the iceberg of how atrocious they are, Surely Bacuna should be played just so he can beat the 1st man with a cross. Have we ever had a worst set-piece set up or has any team?
AshVilla
3 corners in a row tonight i seen fail to even be lifted over the first man WTF was that shite Go to any Sunday League game and you will see youngsters able to lift the ball into the box I just don't get it
foreveryoung
To be fair we find it hard to impossible to find a player when taking a throw in, never mind set pieces
PaulC
Yet last night in the Bradford game their were so many quality set pieces.
Mister_Master
Simao Sabrosa is free, and he would take care of all of those problems (Corners, penalty and free kicks).
briny_ear
"We are just missing that little bit of quality on the final third". Guess our performance at corners is part of what the Dear Leader meant when he handed down this wise and true analysis. dudevillaisnice
I actually saw West Brom vs Burnley over the weekend. Burnley went 2-0 up and West Brom clawed it back to 2-2. They did it via set pieces, nothing extravagant. Pulis himself - "We look at set-plays very closely and we thought they were very vulnerable at the back (post). “The first goal we got in there. The second goal was a little bit of a block that we work on." They walked away with a point away from home.

Fab
With Sherwood coming in we've all had a lot of fun trying to guess the new formation and starting line-ups. Who do you reckon will be taking corners and free kicks?

villa89
Set pieces under Sherwood couldn't be any worse than under Lambert. Yet another example of how poor a manager he was.

Who do you reckon will be taking corners and free kicks? Gil i love him, but his corners have been dreadful so far That's what made me ask this in the first place. Really rate Gil so far but his corners were really bad. The majority hit the first defender. I reckon if Bacuna plays he'll be more likely to take corners. heid3ster
I hope that we start with something basic like retaining possession from throw-ins.
jackbauer24
I think this is why we also look very vulnerable at corners - how can you practice defending them when you've got no-one who can whip a set piece in?! I always imagine team standing in the area during training waiting for a ball to be crossed, with loads of 'cut scenes' of balls flying over their heads, hitting players ankles, balls struggling to roll to the box...
dudevillaisnice
At one point today, Weimann decided he would take a corner. It led to a Stoke corner.
StanBalaban
I'm praying to science that K Mac and Mark Robson can come up with something for us. For such a shit attacking team in open play, we have no right to waste our deadball situations.
GasGasGas
If a team is shit in open play, it stands to reason they are shit players in general. Our set pieces illustrate exactly that. Weimann doesn't even resemble a football player, and it showed exactly in his corner. Couldn't even strike a ball properly. Gil seems average at best so far, although against Hull he had a shocker like the rest of the team. Delph is overrated, like the player himself. For his supposed calibre, with the percentage of his corners that can't even get off the ground or beat the first man, you'd never guess he was actually sought after by a team or by England. Westwood or Cleverley are no better than Delph. But at least they aren't as bigged up as he is. Bacuna would probably be the best bet for consistency in quality, but he lacks game time. Currently Sinclair looks like he could at least provide something a fair amount of times.
