i liked it too, farrell was good, vaughn was suspect but i think thats more down to my opinion of him rather than anything in his performance, he did nothing to shake off the lingering thought that hes a shit actor but that might come

Exactly this.

I think if that was any other actor we would think his performance in that episode was fine.

But because it's flipping Vince Vaughn we're all sitting there expecting him to either be totally shit or to have to do something great to change our opinion of him.

I don't think he's going to blow us away, but I reckon by the end of the series we'll have all come around to him as that character, once we're over the fact that it's Vince Vaughn

It wsa slow but it got good in the last  half od episode but 2 things spring to mind, Vaughn playing the bad guy just reminds me of Starsky and Hutch and should have called Farrell a name that wasnt Ray unless this is a sequel to In Bruges ;)

Its a good cast with McAdams and probably more well rounded cast than 1st season and Kitsch is an underrated actor for me, anything I have seen him in has been impressive

Watched  it last night. It was thoroughly gripping, though I don't really have a scooby what was going on. Great acting in the main, well shot, loved the bar scene with the singer, Vaughn and Farrell. Vaughn was OK I think. His character has not been fleshed out yet and hopefully he grows into the programme.

But yeah, loved it, but don't really know what the main 'point' is, if there is one? Corruption (Vaughn) and police corruption (Farrell). Is Farrell's wife dead, killed by someone but we don't know who? (possibly at the behest of Vaughn?)

I assumed she'd been raped. I assume she's still alive and the guy who picked up Farrell's son is her new husband.

Possibly the kid is a result of the rape? Farrell refuses the DNA test which would indicate he's not confident the kid is his, even if he considers himself his father.

Well no need to watch the rest of the series thanks to columbo here

what stevo said was in the episode!

he explained to the lawyer at the start about the rape and the DNA test, the flashback then showed how vaughn got him in his pocket, im guessing there'll be more flashbacks to how farrell turned completely and maybe how kitsch got them scars and his man issues

All four main characters had issues with sex of some form or another;

Farrell was firing blanks and his wife ends up being raped, McAdams character had done something with her boyfriend hat was deemed odd by him and she also wigged out about her sister masturbating on web cams.

The young copper needs Viagra and Vaughn hadn't been able to produce a child yet either.

The guy who was murdered had a somewhat bohemian house in the way it was decorated with sexual acts and there was a dildo on his coffee table.

Sex and violence is always at the heart of these things, so I am not sure how important or unimportant these factors are.

Was Kitsch's character trying to kill himself when he did that thing on the bike?

When I watched it I took it as trying to get a rush that he's missing out on through sex. But my work colleagues are adamant he was trying to top himself, but bottled it.

I thought on watching it he was trying to kill himself, as there was a shot while he was doing 100mph from his perspective of total darkness; literally him staring into the abyss.

Your theory though is equally plausible and perhaps more interesting.

I might have misheard but I thought it was mentioned that he'd been in army? I assumed they were war wounds.

Nah, didn't he specifically say to the girl he was with that the scars weren't from the army?

I kind of like that they don't spell the plot out for you at every turn. You're left to work it out on your own. Which I'm still trying to do....

I hunk you're right. I imagine the finger of suspicion might be cast in him at some point, much like Cohle. He certainly seems the oddest.

Also, who would have cut a deal with the drunk driver?

I thought the same as you
