Seems like every time we have a bit of a wobble under him (and relatively, they really have been just wobbles, and nothing compared to the kind of poor runs we used to go on occasionally under basically every previous manager), we bounce back very strongly. Worth bearing in mind for future.
  2. I have absolutely no inside knowledge and this is just vibes but I get the impression he's a big character in the dressing room.
  3. They weren't *terrible* but I think the way they were setup meant that getting a result relied on an incredible amount of luck (City missing chance after chance after chance).
  4. This is true, but it's also true that since VAR has come in the linesmen have relied on VAR much much more, so without it they may not have flagged as they're more trained to judging offsides manually. Who knows.
  5. A draw would be fine. Obviously won't be as comfortable as a win but it will still leave us in a very good position.
  6. He could well have it by the end of this calendar year.
  7. What was the deal with Oliver tonight? I'm sorry but he was horrendous. Intimidated by the home crowd?
  8. After the United game there were definitely a few on here who were acting as if we'd be lucky to get 4 points. I distinctly recall the phrase "I don't see where our next win is coming from" being uttered.
  9. I don't think we have the same kind of killer trait as Liverpool yet, but in fairness what we did tonight is exactly the sort of thing they would've done. Strolling ahead, getting pegged back and then nicking it at the death is killer instinct stuff.
  10. We've shown we can bounce back so even if we lose to Spurs we can still push on.
  11. It's nowhere near a must win - a draw would be absolutely fine. It's almost as clear a case as you will see of "must not lose".

    Ezri Konsa

He's back in the starting 11
  13. This will be the toughest of these three games against "lesser" opponents in my opinion.
  14. I honestly wouldn't want him back. For one thing it just wouldn't be good value for money compared to what we'd probably be able to get elsewhere.
  15. Lenglet is also over 2 years younger.

Yeah I honestly think this is a lot of it. We just don't have a very tall team. Even most of our CBs are fairly short by CB standards. Think the only ones above 6'1 are Torres and Mings.
  17. I'd be minded to put Torres fairly high on the list. He oozes composure and that's probably the single most important quality for a shoot-out. Also many CBs have never even taken a penalty so not much data for the keeper to go on.
  18. 1. Luiz 2. Watkins 3. Bailey 4. Tielemans 5. Konsa

Yeah under O'Neill even when we were fighting for top 4 we didn't tonk teams very often. Under Emery we seem to do it on a semi-regular basis?

Yeah I still can't quite believe it at times. He came in and immediately turned us into a top 5 quality team for the first time in well over a decade. I thought we'd do well under him but I didn't think it'd be that sudden or sustained. The fact that we're a season and a half into his tenure and the very worst spells under him would've been bang average during the Lambert years says it all.
  21. With all our injuries he's arguably become one of the most important players for us, albeit temporarily. We'd be absolutely **** if he got injured.
  22. Hmm that could be anything from "it was just precautionary" to "he might be out for a few weeks".
  23. Yeah given the circumstances he did very well.
  24. So overhyped. The fact that they beat us twice didn't suddenly make them serious top 4 contenders, it just meant that their curse over us remains unbroken.
