  1. So you watched him when he was 16 years old (he replaced Benteke when we beat Sunderland 4-0) and you are now writing him off? He's been putting in some good performances for Cambridge and scored his first goal at the weekend. He's only 20 years old and has loads of time yet, he needs to bulk up and gain a bit of strength as Grealish did but there is a very good player in there.
  2. Finally won the Premier League with Villa, took me until my 5th season though! Now need to try and win an FA Cup and a Champions League. Signed Rabiot over the summer window and some young players to bring though for the next couple of seasons in various positions. Let Hourihane leave on a free, and sold McGinn and El Ghazi for ridiculous fee's despite being fringe players.
  3. Chester's out until April I believe. He's been ruled out of the international's for Wales at the end of March already.
  4. Why would we redevelop Villa Park? We fill it twice a season at the most. At the start of most games I look around and see 6-7k empty seats. As with most things in football it's all about the performances, and if we can improve those then the fans will start coming back and we can then start to think about increasing capacity. We've got much bigger things to worry about currently than increasing the number of empty seats in our stadium.
  5. For a forum that spends half it's time slagging off ex-managers for buying overpriced players on big wages I really don't understand why the below names are being thrown around as to who to buy in the Summer. - Maupay - Lolley - Forestieri - Bowen These are the exact players we shouldn't be looking to buy. These are the exact players we have been buying for the last 3 seasons and the exact reason the club is currently in the situation it is in. Each of these players would cost over 10 million each, they would expect their wages to be doubled and they would then come in thinking they have made it in football. We really need to get away from buying 'the best of the Championship' and start finding our own players in the lower leagues and abroad, it's the only sustainable way in football.
  6. Has he the money = No This was the problem, Xia had no money, he gambled the future of the football club using the parachute payments and ran up debts that could have crippled us.
  7. That is amazing. Just spent half an hour starting at this and researching various parts.
  8. Thinking about this further, I think I would go: Steer Elmo Mings Hause Taylor Hourihane McGinn Adomah Grealish El Ghazi Abraham It seems harsh leaving out Whelan, but I don't think he can play 3 games in a week. If we leave him out on Saturday then he will be available fresh on Wednesday against Forest. We also don't know if Grealish will be able to play 3 games in a week, therefore Whelan may need to come in for him on Wednesday
  9. There's no way he's playing McGinn at LB and leaving an actual LB on the bench in Taylor. McGinn would be wasted at LB.
  10. Combine that with the fact Xia had either run out of money or was unable to get it out of China then we would be in serious trouble right now. We would have had to sell players, not bring any in and even then the club would have been running up significant losses with no pay to players and staff. I imagine we would now be bottom of the league and heading into football obscurity. Scary really.
  11. If's and But's (updated) Well so far it's not going well... but the weekend results could still go our way... we then have two games in a week to change it even further. Sheff Wed's lose midweek - draw, Wednesday still only on 48 points Derby lose midweek - win Forest and Hull draw on Saturday Derby and Sheff Wed's draw on Saturday Leeds beat Bristol on Saturday We beat Blues Suddenly the league looks like this and we suddenly look to be in a very promising position. 7 - Derby - 55 points 6 - Bristol - 54 points 8 - Villa - 51 points 9 - Forest - 51 points 10 - Hull - 51 points 11 - Blues - 50 points
  12. Maps showing which export makes each country the most money. How do Africa have some of the richest resources but also be so poor?!
  13. Two games to go in Season Five with Villa. Out of both cups, went out on aggregate in the Champions League Semi Final. Lost to Bristol City who are bottom of the Premier League to allow Man City to close the gap to two points. I now have Chelsea and then Huddersfield to finish the season, I just know we are going to bottle it. Couldn't face the pressure of it last night.
  14. But if you put the 'manager bounce' into perspective. Since Bruce took the helm at Sheff W - Played 7 - Won 3 - Drew 3 - Lost 0 - Scored 8 - Conceded 3 - Points 13 When Smith took the helm at Villa - Played 7 - Won 4 - Drew 2 - Lost 1 - Scored 19 - Conceded 10 - Points 14 Smith wins
  15. If's and But's (updated) Granted this is biased guesswork but it just show's how quickly the Championship can change. Sheff Wed's lose midweek - draw, Wednesday still only on 48 points Derby lose midweek Forest and Hull draw on Saturday Derby and Sheff Wed's draw on Saturday Leeds beat Bristol on Saturday We beat Blues Suddenly the league looks like this and we suddenly look to be in a very promising position. 6 - Bristol - 54 points 7 - Derby - 52 points 8 - Villa - 51 points 9 - Forest - 51 points 10 - Hull - 51 points 11 - Blues - 50 points
  16. Maybe we should go the Mjallby AIF route with shirt sponsorship...

  18. Don't agree at all with the post's about staying in this divison another season to rebuild the squad. As sad as it is, we would be much better off going up, losing every single game and then coming back down with 120 million in the back pocket and three more years of parachute payments. I actually don't think the above would happen with promotion, I would trust Smith to build a side capable of beating the drop (there really is some dross in the Premier League still). Keeping Grealish, possibly being able to sign Mings and Abraham would be a massive bonus to start the rebuild, we would then be able to attract some much better quality players. However we have to get there yet and we've put ourselves in an extremely difficult position once again. A win on Sunday is a must, another draw would proabably seal our fate.
  19. Brilliant today, he was like a different player with Grealish next to him. The space and time that is available to him as Grealish drags players in his direction allows him so much more freedom and time on the ball. 9 assists and 6 goals in February for a centre midfielder is a pretty great record. Still people around in the Holte tried digging him out early on, they were then very quiet after he scored his goals.
  20. I wouldn't put him back in. On the bench as an option to replace Grealish, although Carroll was good when he came on today. Options in midfield, whatever next!
