  1. Forgotten how long Lescott has been around that must be back in 1998/9
  2. Sorry but no to Pat Murphy, guy always seems to take every opportunity to have a go at Villa. Always felt he was rubbed up the wrong way by RLs refusal to talk to the press or more importantly to him! And as a result delights in any chance to have a pop at the club
  3. Great result. and really impressive to see some REAL team spirit building. see the reaction amongst the players at the end of the game. For the 'Pool it will be obvious quickly that they were totally dependent on Suarez .... and now he has gone .. Fantastic!
  4. 196 according to Wiki 258. Wikipedia only lists league appearances in the profile box. If you include cup and European games then he played 258 times for Spurs. Only another 142 games for JK to find then
  5. Cant see this .. Why would a company Dafabet, based in the Philippines want to pay for a Japanese international?
  6. The Barcelona thing has nothing to do with what happens on the pitch, football-wise. It has everything to do with the fact that every game, every reference, every supporter reverts back to the political situation of Catalonia, and they use these home games as a stump from which to preach their separatist ways. I have no issue with their views nor their reasons for not wanting to be part of Spain. What I have an issue with is that their games represent much less sport and much more politics, and when I watch football, I want to see and hear about football...not about why the team on the field is purportedly a pillar for the issues that plague the population around it. If Spain was a united place, I'd feel much differently about it than I do. I even saw this years ago when separatist chatter was more minimal. But now, every game has to somehow feature the Catalan flag in massive fashion, making me wonder who is playing...a club team, or the Catalan (national) regional team? There is another team in BCN, RCD Espanyol, but they get shit on by the greater public in comparison to FCB. I had a hunch to simply walk across town and join them originally, but if they ever improve to a top flight team, the same political shit will come out of there, too. Hence, the Premier League was my landing spot. Thanks for that explanation , VILLAMARV asked the question that puzzled me, as we certainly don't play the brand of football that Barca do, and perhaps your answer shines a light on a less attractive feature of 'the greatest club side in the world' long ignored Well done Sir Anyway welcome to the fold, strap on your seatbelt this will be a bumpy ride. You have certainly joined us at an interesting point in our long history, I would suggest a quick read of the optimist ans pessimist threads to illustrate just how schizophrenic we villans have become. After last season we are either (1) A doomed bunch of cheap inexperienced kids, led by a man with poor tactical skills and little support from the club owner. Or (2) the brightest and most exciting young side in the premier league led by a genius in the transfer market who is supported by an owner who finally has learnt from early mistakes. You sound like a positive individual well capable of making your own mind up, so read the comments with the big 'pinch of salt' they need and you will love being a part of the crazy world that is Aston Villa
  7. Certainly not ... its 44 pages 'thick'
  8. Everton have signed with dafabet. But not as shirt sponsor
  9. Known whacko. He's come out with his alien beliefs numerous times. Nothing to see. Paul Hellyer, he first started announcing alien presence in 2005 so this is not new 'news' from him
  10. Even when we were close to finishing top 4 our best players wanted out, were a stepping stone club now Truth is every team outside the top 2/3 is now a feeder club for the rest, i am afraid this is the natural consequence of current structure of football in the premier league
  11. The amount of nervous energy generated this season would have kept the floodlights going till next christmas
  12. A draw will do .... mind I said that last Saturday
  13. Rafa love to see it ... not going to happen. Whoever it is, the next couple of seasons will really expose Moyes ie Can he follow SAF? Will his replacement improve on Evertons regular top half finish?
  14. United or rather the Glaziers are being driven by the share price, its already fallen considerably since the news broke, they need to get someone in to steady the ship. at the end of the day its not about football ... its just business
  15. Who ever gets the job is on a hiding to nothing. Expectations are enormous, not helped by SAF saying that this is his best ever squad(?) So newbie comes in, and unless they get off to a flyer ( are you listening Mr first good start to a season in 10yrs Moyes ) then the pressure wiil bend on. The Glaziers driven by the share price, the fans by.. SAF wouldnt have done that and of course Alex himself, upstairs sending little notes down from on high, which of course you ignore at your peril. Mourinho is bily big bs enough to tough it out, but I think anyone else is likely to wilt, and cant see them lasting two seasons
  16. The way Stan has faced into the adversity, and the humanity with which he has come out of it have raised the man from a respected Captain, to an all time hero in my estimation
  17. YES Not just as a mark of respect for what Stan has done, but surely as a mark of support for what he is going to do. A number of people have made the comment that he survived, move on. This shows a complete lack of understanding of the illness he has suffered and the harshness of the treatment he has undergone. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are traumatic treatments that frequently allow the patient to survive the initial condition but so weaken the body and immune systems that fatal complications set in later. Stan makes it perfectly clear that he understands this, 'Each and every day I thank God for giving me the opportunity to still be with my family' He is in remission but by no means cured or even 'safe' and yet he has committed to set up a foundation to raise awareness and funds to help defeat this killer. If by retiring the 19 shirt we help Stan, through publicity, fund raising etc then we, as a club should be honor bound to do it
  18. First match i have really enjoyed in ............. cant remember!
  19. I too am struggling to get the enthusiasm to watch this ... I don't enjoy pain, and feel that's all this game has to offer. Can't decide if it will be 'Brave little Villa battle to the end but loose 1 - 0'. Or 'villa thrashed within an inch of their life'. Again!
