  1. You just know he's back on the bench next game. Unreal player, head and shoulders the best in our squad. Has to start
  2. He may well be challenging the Status Quo. Problem is his efforts seem to be taking us Down, Down, Deeper and Down
  3. Not a great look tbh. I know everyone does it, but these types of companies are arguably much worse than your traditional bookies
  4. Posted in here a while ago about some of my concerns about safeguarding issues arising from the move to affirmative care and gender self-ID, both of which have been advocated by groups such as Stonewall and Mermaids. For context: affirmative care in relation to gender dysphoria means that anyone appearing at a gender clinic claiming a transgender identity should be automatically affirmed in that, while self-ID means that anyone who claims to be the opposite gender should be treated as such socially, legally etc. regardless of whether or not that they intend to undergo any form of medical transition. It looks as though another large lawsuit is going to be brought against the Tavistock from people who claim to have been rushed onto puberty blockers and other life-changing treatments. It will be interesting to follow this case, and it may well highlight flaws with a purely affirmative approach to transgender identities. From The Times (As with all reporting on this issue, which has obviously become a major culture war argument, expect some editorial license having been used by the newspaper or some sensationalism engaged in by the lawyer - will obviously be important to wait until any future trial to draw conclusions) Edit: Archived version available here where people can read the whole article
  5. I would've laughed at this a few months ago, and I'm sure you said it tongue in cheek. But I honestly reckon Bruce would have had this group of players win more than 6 in their last 23
  6. Wonder if they might back out as more details emerge from the relationship. Not exactly a great look, especially for Neville with his partial move into politics
  7. Were indications in the 90s that he was a bit of a bastard to women in fairness. And then all that stuff with his brother. Scumbag is definitely the right word
  8. Some of the details coming out from his trial are pretty horrific. If it turns out to be true you'd imagine that's the end of him as a public figure
  9. And like Sherwood, his win percentage/points per game is massively inflated by a winning run from the new manager bounce. Huge similarities definitely
  10. First Minister. Anyone with a fondness for Nicola Sturgeon needs to stay out of this one
  11. That can't be right can it? We won his first 4 matches (IIRC?) which skews his win percentage massively. But surely we've won more than 4 games since then?
  12. 12 months ago we all thought we might be in touching distance of Arsenal
  13. If he stays on the bench and we don't beat Everton next week, I can see the travelling fans chanting in support of Tyrone at Palace. I think the strength of feeling from the fans on this one has been badly misjudged by Gerrard
  14. 100%, the similarities are glaring. Throw more and more money at it, change the manager and manage to get worse
  15. If we're going two up top, I actually think Ings and Archer might be the most balanced partnership we have, and Id like to see it tried at some point. If we're only playing one striker I still think Watkins offers more with his effort and industry, despite his obvious technical deficiencies
  16. Cash was already a standout player before Smith was sacked IMO (even though we'd been poor on the whole). I think he'd have had a strong season whoever was in charge. Nakamba is the obvious answer, his form when Gerrard first came on was head and shoulders above anything hes managed here before or after
  17. All of these things can be true, they are not mutually exclusive: 1) Mings has the occasional mistake in him 2) Mings is currently our best centre back at PL level (maybe this changes when Carlos is up to speed, but that really remains to be seen) 3) Mings is evidently the most natural leader in the team and shouldn't have had the captaincy taken off him, especially not for it to be given to McGinn. If losing the captaincy, he should at the very least had one of the VC or club captain role handed to him People making emotive posts on here in the past after Mings has been perceived to make a mistake which has cost us does not also mean that they think he should be dropped entirely, given the other options available to us. It also doesn't negate their right to be annoyed at Gerrard's treatment of a player who has done a lot for the club and acts as a fantastic ambassador and role model Gerrard has made a lot of mistakes since he came here, it real feels like this is the one that will set in motion his exit from the club
  18. I just can't escape the feeling that Rodgers would take one look at this squad and be certain that he could have them playing good football and climbing up the league. A good 2/3 seasons under someone of his calibre is exactly what we need. We'll wait til he's left Leicester and gone elsewhere before doing anything about Gerrard no doubt.
  19. Joined in July 2013 after a fair amount of time lurking. Was pre-season so first game will have been the opening day when we beat Arsenal 3-1 with Tony Moon on the scoresheet
  20. Honestly think we are going to look back on his appointment as one of the biggest missed opportunities in the club's history. Like when O'Neill brought in Heskey to fire us to a top 4 finish. We have a fantastic squad of players that any halfway decent manager would relish the chance to work with. The fact that beside the winning run when he first came in, the only time we've looked like a capable PL team is when he dropped his 'system' for a few matches really says it all. I reckon he stumbles on for a third of the season before we make a change, leading to yet another wasted year
  21. Think Brendan Rodgers would be a great fit for us tbh
  22. Never looked spectacular but worked really hard, think I'm right in saying our average points per game dropped off massively when he wasn't playing? Thought we had some really likeable players in the Lambert years, and at the end of his first season it looked we could build something
  23. Some decent points here in fairness mate. I reckon Arsenal will continue to improve, think West Ham might fall away a bit, Leicester probably not on for a great season again (losing Maddison to Newcastle would be a blow). Hard to tell with United really, but wouldn't be a surprise if they have another inconsistent season. There could well be more space for us to move into the top 7/8 than in previous seasons
