  1. Can't see Woakes dropping out even given his comments. He's going to be a nailed on starter at the World Cup if fit. You'd have to think that Willey, Curran, Plunkett and Denly would be more likely candidates to miss out from that list.
  2. That whole game of football was fantastic and VAR has played a big part in it. So glad that we’re not sat with an offside goal having decided a game like that.
  3. It is. Shows the value of VAR to be fair.
  4. That looked like a stonewall penalty to me. He’s slid in with his arm in the air and blocked the shot with his arm.
  5. Could have had a couple of assists today with the ball in for tammy’s saved shot and the cross for mcginn’s header. Decent performance - room for improvement but then there’s room for improvement in all of our wingers at the moment. I think I’d give him a run of games. He’s looking more dangerous than Adomah and roughly on a par with El Ghazi in my opinion.
  6. Can we not just play a two in midfield and have two up top? We’re going to lose the midfield with two there or with three there. Even picking two from those three is pretty difficult though! Not sure why Doyle-Hayes was allowed to go on loan. Now would be a good time to give him a few games and see how he goes.
  7. Bang on assessment for me. The worrying thing is that both Albion and Sheffield United didn’t have to play well to be 2-0 and 3-0 up at Villa Park. The second half today was a complete waste of time. Albion sat back because they knew we could have played forever and never looked like scoring.
  8. Did this player destroy Albion? He scored a deflected goal and smashed one in from distance. He hasn’t shown much in many games for me. The fact that none of our wingers have particularly good end product will mean he’ll still get some minutes but he’s yet to show me he’s anything other than our fourth choice winger when Adomah is back to full fitness.
  9. Leeds had 8 corners today and scored from 1 which there was nothing nyland could do about. You’re trying to pass blame to the keeper for a horrible decision by a player who looked like his head had gone from the moment he gave away the first goal. I’ve already said Nyland isn’t good enough. I just don’t see the need to blame him for every goal.
  10. I genuinely don’t see how he can be blamed for any of the three goals. The fact that some are trying to blame him for Elmo heading the perfect lay off for Roofe’s winner kind of sums up the scapegoat he’s starting to become. Not good enough but not at fault for every goal as some would have you believe.
  11. Yeah looked a sitter from the Holte too. Just put your foot through it!
  12. Didn’t really do much wrong today. If your right back is going to let a guy run through on goal and shoot and then provide a brilliant headed assist for the opposition you’re on a hiding to nothing. That said he inspires no confidence at all. I do think he’s got the best distribution of any keeper I’ve seen play for us. Can genuinely vary his kicks depending on who’s winning aerial battles at a particular point. Unfortunately not good enough at the fundamentals for this to be particularly useful.
  13. I thought he had a good game today. Completely created the second goal even if it was a good finish from Hourihane and did well to create the chance for himself at the start of the second half (he should have hit the target there though). I’m not massively sure why he was taken off to be honest.
  14. Well yes Ronaldo scored a hat trick that week. He also is and has been one of the two best players in the world for the past 10+ years. I think he may have done more than score a hat trick in that week to be fair. I genuinely think that not having messi or Ronaldo as ballon d’or winner makes a bit of a mockery of the whole thing. The numbers they are racking up are insane and if offered the chance to take any player in the world based on current ability it’s always going to be one of those two. Nobody is seriously turning down Ronaldo or Messi to take Modric.
  15. I thought he did alright today other than the one obvious drop for a corner. Cracking save to prevent the Tuanzebe own goal. The defence’s inability to deal with mishit crosses that he could never have come for was more worrying than Nyland for me.
  16. This thread is so similar to the Sam Johnstone thread when he joined. He’s made a couple of errors early on so now we’ll jump on every goal as being down to him. The defence has left him facing a free shot blasted at him from about 8 yards out. Good performance on the whole and as well as we played we lose that game if not for his saves.
  17. I thought this was an EFL restriction meaning that we’re not allowed to have full match replays. Might be wrong and other teams may be showing full match replays but that was my understanding. Can’t believe that not having full match replays is going to save much money in the grand scheme of things.
  18. 4 promotions in 20 odd years is a bit of an understatement given he’s been in the premier league for a number of those years. I can’t be bothered to look it up but he must have done around 7 or 8 years in the premier league with SHA, Wigan and Sunderland. I really don’t get the obsession with hyperbolising everything on here to make people out to be better or worse than they actually are.
  19. Has to be a penalty for me and if it’s not under the rules then the rules need changing. His hand is well away from his body and the balls going towards the middle of the six yard box.
  20. Haha fair point. My first game was the 96 league cup win for Villa. Neither Villa or England have won anything since. Maybe it’s my fault?!
  21. Kind of agree with a lot of this. In response to the points you’ve made: 1) Agreed completely. Having Wilshire from the bench rather than Dier would have been much better. 2) Not sure on this one. Young has had an excellent tournament and deserved his start. Played brilliantly tonight too. 3) Agreed completely. Why sterling was taken off repeatedly throughout the tournament I’ll never know. 4) Again agreed and would argue that either Delph or Loftus-Cheek would have been a better option than a clearly unfit alli. The most annoying thing tonight is that I’m 28 and genuinely don’t see us getting a better chance to reach a World Cup final for years.
  22. Agreed with this. The right full back was getting far too much space to get crosses into the box and we made no attempt to stop this. Inevitably the equaliser came from one of his crosses.
  23. Definitely wasn’t offside and I’d like to think VAR would gave resolved that easily enough. That’s the moment that changed the game though.
