  1. He's giving it a go, and fighting for his career. Not long back from a really long layoff (even with games at Wigan), so will give a bit more time. He has got into some good position since his comeback, but sadly hasn't put one in.
  2. Ah but the moaners will say they could of had so many more and against a better team we'd of lost. Wouldn't call them moaners more-like realists, but let's not start the name calling, and enjoy the day. Tough game to watch at times, but I'm happy, and what a start to the new year. Realists? Although we've won every game where we've had less than 37% possession? Realistically if we give Arsenal and Liverpool that much possession they will beat us. That's my view, and you are more than welcome to yours. Nice to be able to celebrate a Villa win. Opening day of the season? 3-1 wasn't it? Maybe I should of said on present form, and I did say realistically and not that it was certain. Look back through the history books, and I don't think you'll find many teams will win anything by having 37% in the long term. You may win the odd game, but you're always playing under pressure. Constantly playing under pressure brings on mistakes, and that's when winnable games are lost or drawn. Teams who possess the ball more will consistently win leagues and cups. If the boys can prove me wrong by winning something with 37%, then I'll happily admit I am wrong. Heck, they don't need to win anything, just a place in Europe will do. Well also had 46% possession that day according to the BBC.

Anyway I'm enjoying g the victory, hopefully I'll be able to stay awake to see us on motd tonight. I know that, been around the game long enough, because if it was all about possession we'd be fighting with Palace for bottom place. I hope you enjoy MOTD.
  4. His touch was poor in 1st half, but that was to be expected. Came to life in the 2nd half, and loved the run he made in the 72nd minute.

Ian Taylor cost Port Vale 15k from Moor Green I love the tweet with him going ''Albrighton FFS'' He used to post on here. What was his username Dodgyknees? From memory wasn't it AVFCPrideofBrum??? 8. The only reason I could see Young or Milner coming on loan is to cement a World Cup place. For me, it is a possibility.
  9. HairyHands, I appreciate your honest comments, but they still don't cover Lambert's failing. We know he is working on a small budget, because it was made fairly clear when he came in. What I want to know is what responsibility he is taking in the performance of the team. He has purchased these players, and cannot get them to look anything like a team. I posted a longish post in the after game comments yesterday on where I see the teams failing, but all you want to do his defend the performances because we don't have much money. I have seen teams from lower divisions be more prepared for games against Premiership teams than we all season. You can say they are one off cup games, but in the end those teams are prepared and we just aren't. They might as well remove those words from our badge. This falls back to Lambert and his coaching team that you may well be a part of. 73% of the ball we gave Swansea, and all he could say was they only had the same shots on target as we had. True, but Swansea don't have the forward lines that many of the other teams around us have. They had way more shots than us, but they have poor goalscorers. Let's set what happens when we get up against Arsenal andLiverpool. I'm even worried about Fletcher, because of his potential as a goal scorer. I am willing to give him more time as long as he can show that he is improving the team, and not dragging all our players to Sunday league level.
  10. I hope he is given the funds to do so. Tell us though, is he going do some work on the training ground to get us playing like as a team, because at present it looks like we don't meet during the week at all.
  11. Needs better service in front of goals just like Benteke. I think he is doing as well as we could hope in the system we have. He does fall down very similar to Heskey though.
  12. Three, not sure which game it will, but I think we will get a bit of luck in one of the games and it will be enough. I'm hoping it's Sunderland, because at least that will push them closer to relegation. Only two other teams to finish above then,
  13. Lambert happy with a "Big Point", while Laudrup disappointed at two dropped, and he believe we played for a draw. Enough said!
  14. Been saying he needs to play there, so glad to see him get an assist today.
  15. From the Mail. It won't get tougher than last year? Let's see how he, and the fans feels after the next four games. http://tinyurl.com/q757ob4
  16. Sad state when people believe it's okay to be cussed at in public when someone states a fact the other person doesn't like.
  17. yet they all had the play but hit the target 3 times like we did, sometimes they over play it Oh I don't disagree, but this has happened all season, and in most games teams have had more shots on goal. They did though have way more attempts on goals, and they do that by keeping possession. Never said they had the best shooters in the league.
  18. The way Swansea played today were taught, today the Villa played today was taught. The movement of the Swansea players was something they have been at the training ground. The lack of movement and communication with Villa players is something that is taught on the training ground. This is the responsibility of the coaching team, that are headed up by the respective managers. Laudrup has been able to build on the foundation of the previous managers. He purchases players that will enhance the performance of the team. Lambert has thrown his house in on two tall center forwards, that may possible muscle teams into submission. You could see the Swansea players were comfortable playing the ball on the ground, and moving into open space. Villa players did not look comfortable until Kozak came on, and they could put their head down, and lump the ball up to the big man. This is the difference between the two sides playing today. Swansea train to keep possession, wear opposition players down, and take the chance when they become available. For me, it looks like Villa train to lump the ball forward, and hope a knock down goes to one of our forwards. Sadly, our other attacking are so deep they have no chance to support Kozak, or when he was fit Benteke. This tactic gives the ball back to the opposition so often, and to coin a Lambert phrase, “They go again.” I’m not saying which tactics are right or wrong, because they both can work, but if you don’t have players can support the tactics, then you will fail. We are failing because except for the big man up top the other ten players are to deep. If Lambert is going to continue to play this way then he has to gamble by keeping another player up at all times. It is usually big verses two to three defenders. This leaves us with nine against seven of their outfield players, and we still can’t keep possession. We have to put the under pressure in their defense third, we tried this at the start of the first half today, but sadly fell back into bad habits. I do have quite a bit of a background in coaching. I spent two years studying for my UEFA “A” license, before I met my wife and moved to the USA. I have coached now for over twenty years, just to let you know I do have a bit of knowledge concerning what goes on at the training ground. The tactics/pattern of play should have been sorted pre-season, along with the fitness. Tinkering should be taking place during the season. The problem is the players still haven’t got a clue what they are supposed to be doing, and this is shown in their lack of confidence and poor performance. No matter where the players have come from they wouldn’t be playing at a professional level if they didn’t know the basics. I am talking about passing, communication, and finding space. Can anyone after watching the game today say our players were doing that? Sorry HH if you read this, but that lays with the coaching team, which was also recruited by Mr. Lambert. Not saying Lambert has to be the greatest tactician as long as he has other strengths, but he better have people around him who can do that, and not just give a job to the “good ole boys.” He needs to decide on his tactics, get the players back out on the training ground, and get it sorted. He needs to give the players the opportunity to work by balancing out the transition from defense to attack, because at the moment that is the team's biggest weakness. Sorry for such a long post, but I had to get this off my chest. I’m praying for a New Year’s resolution for a change or tactics, or at least to stop hearing, “We go again.” P.S. My wife asked me after the game, "Did they win?" I told her we had tied the game. She must have watched for a few minutes over my shoulder, because she then said, "Yeah, the bit that I watched they couldn't keep the ball." My wife has not watched 15 minutes of a game in her life, yet it was still obvious to her.

  20. Does Lambert have a teenage daughter? )
  21. Not been his best of late, but I thought he did very well today. Defended very bravely and was in position when needed. While I was watching today I felt for him and Clark. The amount of pressure they are under because of the amount of possession other teams are having, is ridiculous. They both are learning the hard way how to play under pressure, but sadly it's a bit much for them at times this season. If we can move on, and start keeping more possession, then maybe they both can reach their potential.
