I feel that our realistic ceiling for this season is 8th. Just behind the Top/SKY 6 and Newcastle (who at 12 points in front are just too far ahead of us to catch imo) in whatever order they finish. I see no reason why we can’t end the season ahead of those other teams, especially now we have the away win monkey off our back (hopefully). This of course depends if we can keep this decent home form going, it’s been too long since we’ve been a difficult team to beat at Villa Park in the PL.

Tbh I do tend to on twitter, but that is more because Big Emi uses more characters. Character count is precious when you waffle as much as I do!

You make a great point BOF. Far too many times as supporters we have seen our plan A get snuffed out and be forced to watch us lose, where now we have someone who can make the changes that rectify. And it will come from logic, rather than the luck of a moment of magic *TM from a substitution.

Despite him not featuring on Thursday, I would’ve said it’s probably something along the lines of option C, however it’s a little bit strange that he hasn’t featured at all since his cameo last Sunday. I’d say that if he doesn’t feature at all in any of the Xmas fixtures then he’s probably close to the end of his time at the club.

I don’t mean to keep going on, but I am honestly flabbergasted at just how bad he was. There were some very basic, amateur level errors that he made tonight. It honestly looked like an outfield player playing in goal at times. Surely we could never trust him again?

I know it’s cliché, but I’m optimistic that Unai will learn more about this squad from performances like tonight than he will about performances like Sunday’s. We will be absolutely fine, but hopefully that tonight will help cool the jets of some of our fan base who we’re getting a bit carried away off the back of Sunday’s win. It’s next season that I’m really looking forward to, we will have two transfer windows behind us and Unai will have his squad that know how to play his way.

While he deserves to be cut a bit of slack due to limited game time this season, he looked very slow and once United worked it out, they were targeting him all throughout the second half. Once Diego is back from injury, I think it’s back to 4th choice for Chambers.

Couldn’t catch the ball, rooted to his line, poor first touch and sloppy passing. I’m genuinely shocked that he is a top flight and international goalkeeper despite having so many glaring holes in his game. I’d be surprised if he ever plays for the club again, it wasn’t just errors, I’d say he looked like a non league goalkeeper, but they would be capable of doing the things that I’ve mentioned above.

I had a conversation with a friend of mine on Saturday and said there are worse things Southgate could do than take Ash to the WC. Solid, some good experience for the group, perhaps would struggle as a wing back at international level but a solid full back and a good player to bring off the bench to timewaste/s***house to help see out a win.

I think this World Cup has come too soon for him, but give him time under Emery and if today was anything to go by then he will play his way back into the England squad.
