My biggest worry is that he could go on a great run with us and go shooting up the league table, possibly qualifying for Europe and then we won’t be able to sack him!

Sorry mate, but I really dislike this sort of statement. As far as I can see no ones standard has dropped, some fans are just hopeful that the current manager can turn things around, possibly so that we don’t have to pay out millions of £’s in compensation, possibly so that we don’t take on the gamble that the next manager/head coach might also not reach the required standard. Is that really such a bad thing?

I feel that based on that performance, SG hasn’t ’lost the dressing room’. There is something that can be salvaged, but I feel we need a minimum of 4 points from the next 2 games. If we go back to performances like we had in the 5 league games previously, then it’s time for him to indeed go imo.

I think that’s more than a bit unkind to Matty Cash who’s been one of our better players over the last 12 months. Today though I thought Ashley Young was absolutely outstanding when he came on, didn’t put a foot wrong!

I mean Gerrard. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t go for Poch, I’m just saying that I don’t think we will as we’ve invested too much into it to just scrap it now. I think we’re at the beginning of the end though, it’s just whether a manager of this quality will still be available when we do pull the trigger. I personally think he has until the international break after the Southampton game on 16/9. This is all of course on the basis that Poch would even be interested in coming here

I just think we’re too invested in this ‘project’ to do that. Shame, as I think he would be a fantastic appointment with a real point to prove after his stint in Paris. Would work wonders with some of the young players we have coming through.

Yeah but what I think TRO is trying to say is that the general physicality that those signings brought has given Newcastle the platform to improve other areas of their game - they’re not a team of thugs like Stoke or Wimbledon were, but they don’t allow teams to bully them like we allow ourselves to, and now they have the confidence to go and play decent football against top sides.
